InternetExplorer 2,609
I am continuing to apply to stuff at other places. eventually someone will make the right decision and I'll be on my way. my resume looks fannnnntastic, it really shouldn't take that long.
Dawson Leery 12
half that post appears to be written in a foreign language. This is a business decision, we don't need the lawyers to dot our i's yet. We'll call you when you're needed. I feel like they would have just given me the promotion, or offered to bump up my salary to keep me in this group, if they really wanted me to stay. I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just, the reward I got for cutting a $30k/year position was a $50 gift card. you're right, no one ever got ahead in life by being complacent and comfortable. I know I gotta leave eventually, but this plan of yours is so ballsy and risky. I think you're hung up on the apathy of your peers and the middle management with whom you interact. Someone cares about how much money your division makes. If you can convince that person your programs can reduce headcount by 3 (example) people per month at a fully-loaded cost of $4k each, he should be happy to license the program from you for $5k. Oh and SA - just giving you sht. I enjoy seeing how annoyed lawyers get when they're told "it's a business decision."

Tiltinagain 973
I don't think it's ever occurred to me that there might be places on Earth with exclusively outdoor seating. I guess it makes sense, if it genuinely never rains. What about wind? Have you been to Mexico? Their hotel lobbys have no doors or windows. They're just open, covered by a roof, but otherwise open to the elements. VB is right though. Nobody here ever thought about the possibility of precipitation falling from the sky when the city was built. Yesterday afternoon a portion of I 5 was closed due to flooding and mudslides. Couldn't have had a half inch of rain. Ron, I wonder if the difference is that, because it rains in Florida so often, things are kept rinsed and reasonably clean. Here, it hadn't rained in months. That's a lot of crud washed off into the sewer sea.
Tiltinagain 973
there's only one good business decision and thats following the advice of legal counsel. If that were the case no decisions would ever be made because legal counsel consists of a bunch of pansy ass, risk averse pussies. Present company excluded of course. frautotenkinder 1,025
Any weekend plans? We have to ask a day early this week because I'm off tomorrow. Going camping with the family. Maybe seeing a friend or two, nothing exciting, and I have the humiliation of working on Monday. I plan on eating pizza for lunch and leaving work as early as possible. I'm continuing a rom-com style negotiation at work. My immediate supervisor has put me in for a promotion and raise, and is now talking to the executive office. Immediate supervisor told me this over drinks. I had predicted the promotion, and told my internal third party power broker, "Hey, if I could get xxxx title I would stay, and this title needs to come with a 25% raise. Also, I bet my Immediate Supervisor will bolt within 6-12 months, so I would take his position as an interim bump, as long as it came with $XXXXX money." My promotion (title) has been approved, now it's the money. Power Broker keeps assuring me Immediate Supervisor is going to bat for me. Of course, he hasn't discussed this with me directly. I would discuss what I can and can't live with directly with the executive office, but what if I screw up everything? I'm betting I get 10% now, and the rest at the end of the fiscal. In the meantime, every time I have a closed door meeting with Immediate Supervisor or Executive Office, I wind up, waiting to give my best sales pitch.
hank213 1,823
I have decided that if I don't have an offer for the promotion by my next 1 on 1 this Tuesday, I'm going to tell my direct that I'm backing off doing as much of the job as I'm doing until I get one. I'm starting to get kinda pissy about trying to do and learn the job while also being expected to simultaneously teach the job to an external hire making at least 15k more than me. for a "performance based organization" we sure do shit on people unless they get hired from outside the company.

brvheart 1,756
Napa, Jason apparently played bass for this girl at a few local places in the cities, before she made it on the voice, so maybe I can get you hooked up with her before she becomes a superstar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsmrggvmzG0
Napa Lite 3,278
Sure, Brv. Set it up. And so glad I described my wedding outfit for Frau and she didn't even comment. I'm not crying or anything. She did like it though, so that's something I guess. For awhile my pinky toenail has been gross and sort of growing in as two toenails. Hasn't been a problem since I don't wear flip flops because I'm not a hippie. But now I think its become an ingrown toenail and damn if it doesn't hurt. BC texted me last night wanting to hang out but I was already hanging out with my roommate and a friend so I declined. Told her she was to late. Dr. Spaceman is super underrated. "Oh, don't worry,:points to blood covered labcoat: I was just at a costume party and the hosts dog attacked me and I had to stab him". I think I'm going to get BBQ for lunch today. On our way home manager asked if we wanted to stop at a place but I wasn't sure if he was serious or not but the other kid also had to get home so we didn't. I mentioned I might go get it for lunch tomorrow and he said hed do that. This is "dickhead manager" btw and getting him on my side would be huge as bossman loves him. InternetExplorer 2,609
FTK, what do you do? I think my raise kicked in this week. it amounts to a very legit $70/week. maybe I'll buy several sports cars to celebrate.
InternetExplorer 2,609
brv, you should check out the beta band. I think they had one super popular song "dry the rain" on some movie soundtrack or something. can't be bothered to find out where it's from. anyway, their 2001 and 2004 albums are superb. Ron_Mexico 4,219
Strat, I thought to got a promotion to another group. What is your issue? Brvy, I saw that ep of the Voice, that girl was good. Don't like the 2nd vid. She's c,early lip synching herself snd it looks weird, plus she's singing it too slow. Cute girl, good voice Essay, I watched that show from its inception. It's decent, has funny moments, they change black guys after the pilot, Schmidt is funny but this season the show has gotten a little more silly. I'm currently on the fence about it
iBeaver 409
It's no Modern Family but it's pretty good. I love Nick.

Yeah, I don't know how to multi quote on my phone. I remember some hemming (ha!!) and hawing regarding which suit to keep, if you liked the fit. Were you happy with your choice? FTK, what do you do? I think my raise kicked in this week. it amounts to a very legit $70/week. maybe I'll buy several sports cars to celebrate. I work in non-profit, fundraising.
Napa Lite 3,278
Yes, I'm mostly happy with the fit. The problem is I have pretty broad shoulders and massive upper arms and so any suit coat(or really, most articles of clothing) that fit my arms/shoulders well are insanely baggy on the rest of my body so I just try to find a happy medium. And so it's a little tight on my upper arms. That being said, getting it tailored really helped and it fits about as well as you can expect an off the rack suit ordered over the internet to fit.
Ron_Mexico 4,219
That's why you don't order suits off the Internet.

That's awful. I'm not piling on but just trying to issustrate the awfullness.... Our store managers, who manage 5 to 8 people generally, start at a minimum of $35k. With management experience they could start closer to $42. The average age of our managers is probably in the upper 20's. Most have zero college degrees. And it's so true about companies taking better care of external hires than internal when it comes to starting pay/increases. It's so absurd. I guess it's the attraction of the shiny new toy in the window that opens up the wallets. But the truth with corporate america is that you get your shot to make decent money when you're hired or promoted. If you don't negotiate then you've lost because the 3% annual raise is pretty much the norm.
Napa Lite 3,278
Not sure about my weekend. My roommates little brother is playing a concert tomorrow back in their home town (he's a rapper; white) that would be hella fun to go to, but on the other hand I kind of just want to stay home and do nothing. Not to mention I should work tomorrow morning and they want to leave tonight. Rankings tho...
