MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Ball hockey can be extremely fun and a great workout if you guys never take things too seriously. The guys I used to play with were ultra competitive and it lost its "fun factor" when we would start to argue with each other. Just always remember its an in house league and you are not playing for anything other than bragging rights.Ive played a ton of ball hockey in leagues over the last 15yrs. Some pretty competitive levels, but I too got sick of it once it got way too serious. Its great for cardio, and it can be a lot of fun, but too many of the leagues I played in are dirty/full of young "Joe Heavies" as we call them. Young kids who look for the fight/dirty play. I guess this happens in competitive ice too, but I wouldnt know, my ice hockey is pretty beginner-ish, and very non-contact for the most part. I find ball can be a lot more prone to dirty tactics and sucker punches. All that whining aside, I still try to play on 2 teams every season, 4 seasons a year. I love it.This summer, joined a new team who is all about the fun of playing and the beer afterwards in the parking lot, shooting the shit. I think we were like 3-9, missed the playoffs, but I had way more fun with them than my team in the winter that went to the finals. All about the guys your playing with, and the comraderie. At least for me.Have fun with it Coesillian.oh, and as an aside, one of my buddies I played with also refs a lot on ball/ice (part time linesman in the AHL too), and he recently reffed a game that featured Raffi Torres, David Clarkson, and a gtd whose name I cant recall. Another buddy played with Clarkson, didnt say the kindest things about him!
dEv~ 19
Max Talbot handled playing with shoulder problems by collecting 4g/2a in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Pens were 4-0 in games in which he got at least a point.Marian Hossa handled playing with shoulder problems by collecting 0g/3a in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Wings were 1-1 in games in which he got at least a point.Nope, I won't let it die.Blackhawks’ Hossa to undergo surgery
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Here is a true Random Hockey Observation:Was at a Sports Authority at Sunrise, Florida today. They had only 2 rows of hockey jerseys. One row all Panthers, the other row....all Maple Leafs. The Leafs were $20 cheaper, $99.
ajs510 122
So, the 2009 Hockey Hall of Fame class was announced yesterday. Tony Amonte, Tom Barrasso, John Leclair, Frank Zamboni, and the 1998 US Women's Team. Adam Oates gets left out in the cold again, along with Pavel Bure, Phil Housley (seriously?), Dino Cicarelli (SERIOUSLY?), Dale Hunter and Bernie Nichols. I would have taken any name on that list over LeClair and Amonte (whom I both respect and believe deserve a place, just not ahead of any of the guys I mentioned and probably 5-6 guys I didn't). Barrasso is fringe for me, 2nd most wins ever by a US-born goalie, Vezina and Calder trophies (not to mention two Stanley Cups), I can see the selection, especially since it's been a while since a goalie was enshrined. Just look at all the owners in the NHL who have ended up in jail.

Zach6668 513
This seems like a standard question to ask around here when someone retires, but...Jeremy Roenick: Hall of Famer?
Piddle Duck 0
This seems like a standard question to ask around here when someone retires, but...Jeremy Roenick: Hall of Famer?I don't think so but I hate the guy so I am a little biased. He had a good 3 year in Chicago where he scored over 100 points I think but other than that just a good player, but not great.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
This seems like a standard question to ask around here when someone retires, but...Jeremy Roenick: Hall of Famer? As Steve said, I dont think so either. In fact, more I think about it, based on traditional criteria, probably no chance. Never won a Cup, no awards (nothing I can think of), no scoring crowns. My favourite criteria for hall of fame is....was he one of the best players of an era. Or a time when he was one of the top 5/10players, say for a timeline of 3-5 yrs.I dont see how Roenick makes it to the hall frankly. And FWIW, I LOVED Roenick when he first came into the league, even had the Hawks jersey. ajs510 122
This seems like a standard question to ask around here when someone retires, but...Jeremy Roenick: Hall of Famer?500+ goals and 1200+ points is pretty hard to turn your nose up at. Then again, Ciccarelli scored more goals in less games than Jari Kurri, Bryan Trottier or Ron Francis and he still isn't in, so it's obviously not the only criteria. I would have to say he probably won't make it unless there's a makeup year where a couple guys who were shut out of better Hall classes get in.
Zach6668 513
Any extra points given to him since he's one of the best American players (scorers, anyways) ever?
