Pot Odds-Trust me, I hear you. I'm going to college and going somewhere in my life. Im not turning pro just yet and hope I dont have to in the future. I'm a solid player and plan on making it my income in college, but i understand the trouble it has caused people, especially in my age groupI like the Greek Gods thing, maybe like Ares and such, nice suggestion

Don't go for Ares, too much war & bloodshed. How about "Tyche Fortuna"?Tyche was the Greek Deity of Luck, and Fortuna was the Roman equvalent....or just call yourself TychoTycho Brahe was an astronomer. "Tycho Fortuna" has an interesting feel to itPsyche Tyche?Psycho Tycho?

First of all. Happy b-day.Second of all. Before you start your poker life, I'd suggest you actually start your "real" life first. I am not trying to be harsh, just realistic. There are 18 year olds with the maturity and experience levels to "make it" playing poker. But they are the exception, not the norm. Winning Poker isn't just about going to a casino and out playing some other dude. You need poker experience, sure, but you also need mathematic ability, social skills, perhaps even a personal philosophy and awareness.
God Dammit!! :club:

Sweetdaddyfreak:At UF there are about 6 or 7 different games. .50/1 NL all the way up to 5/10 spread occasionally. The rake is not great, usually 10 percent capped at 4 or 5 dollars, which hurts in the .50/1 games, but the players suck for the most part. My friend won a stars 10 rebuy for 12k last month, he hosts a sunday tourney usually, which is pretty good, and unraked. At least for your rake in the nl cash games you get pizza, beer, soda.Last thursday play went 8 pm to 7:30 AM, then people got ready to go to class.

Umm, no.I too live in FL, and the only people winning at 1/2 or 2/2 lhe is the house. The game isn't easily beatable because every hand has 6 to the flop and 4 to the turn.It is merely a form of entertainment. And the tourneys are crapshoots. The blind structure and levels are designed to get the tourney over as fast as possible.happy b-day.
I don't know what the rake is, but let's assume a standard 10% up to $5. With $2 betting limits you're probably looking at a 10% rake every hand. That's big, but not unbeatable. In fact, a good small stakes limit player should be able to clean up in that game. The bad thing is that the variance will be wild and the swings quite large. Furthermore, your winrate probably won't be any higher than like 2 bets an hour at best, making it not worth playing for money. However, it's still a beatable game, I guarantee it.

name suggestions:Hucking FellHit Shappensthese are my two most common expressions of disgust in a chat box. beyond that, i just say good game & punch stuff where noone can see. either would make a good nick. i prefer the first, has a nice ring to it.

For a name ... why not go with something short and strong ... easy to remember without being too cutesy. Also, long names don't always fit in the space allotted for the player names. Finally, a short, strong, masculine name can be intimidating in an unassuming kind of way. Finally, superstars are often known by just their first name ... For example, in golf there has been Arnie and Jack and now Tiger. In basketball, there was Wilt and Michael and Shaq and Kobe etc. In poker, there is Doyle and Daniel and Ivey and Helmuth and Gus etc. Yes, they've had other nicknames over the years -- but it's the short, strong name that stays with them over the years. (Yes there are a few exceptions to this, but you want a name you can live with 20 years from now.) The best nicknames are acquired in response to events in your life: they are not artificially chosen.Don't go long and cutesy. Go short and somewhat plain. Such a name has a little more class and will last you a lifetime.Edit: If you are still wanting to go with a Greek god or something ... How about Zeus? He's the head guy and it is short and strong.llou
