The real dream is to get it kinda automated -- perhaps a blog, where you guys submit your picks in the comments or something?I haven't been around much lately so I missed this, but I'd be down if you do it again for the open. brvheart 1,755
I can stomach dave when there's a girl around that "omg I just love dmbzz!!" but phish is just unlistenable. and they used to be my favorite band many moons ago.also, reggae and irish music? speedz you are one weird cat.Have you seen the movie Once, Sal? I dare you to not fall in love with Irish music after seeing that movie. Especially the scene where they are having a get together and everyone is around the table playing and singing. There is probably no place on Earth I'd rather be than in that room. (no hyperbole)

Tactical Bear 3
I haven't been around much lately so I missed this, but I'd be down if you do it again for the open.Cool. I gotta fiddle with the structure a bit, and figure out an easier way to deal with the payments -- I still have to get the winner paid, which is tough because I don't keep any money at peer-transfer poker sites anymore -- but: cool. You'll get an invite.A Post Wherein Wang Discusses His FatherSo my dad is kind of a big deal in certain circles. He got some absurdly lucky breaks when he was younger, and his career as an auto-exec has been pretty successful. He was sent to NUMMI -- a joint Toyota/GM plant in Fremont, California -- and became a lean manufacturing expert. As far as I can tell, he devoted himself to the concept, and became an expert in supply-chain manangement, and when Delphi (General Motors' supplier) got spun off, he was there, and decided to stay. He became their supply-chain guru, was eventually an acting Vice President, and was in charge of Delphi's Global Supply Chain. I believe he is now Director of Purchasing.Delphi's going under, and probably won't be around a year from now. When Delphi started to struggle, he felt compelled to stay on and see them through the crisis, despite the fact that he could have started his own consulting firm, got a job teaching at a university, or whatever. His reward for his loyal service? No pension, or at least a comically reduced one. When he retires, he will make very little, and have no health insurance. His goal was always to work until he was 55, and then live his life in quiet luxury, coaching youth baseball, vacationing in Vegas, and traveling around the country to watch sports. I just talked to him a few hours ago, and he's probably going to have to work until he's 62 or 65. He's been getting up before 5AM six days a week since I can remember, putting in 65 hours a week. He still found the time to coach every one of my little league teams, and most of my brother's. For a man with as little time as he had, I can never remember him NOT being around, which is amazing when I think about it. And because his planned retirement happened to come during the worst economic downturn since early last century, he might have to start all over. His reaction? "Ah, it'll be fine. Your mom's worried, though. You should call her and calm her down." See, I got some of the best parts of my parents. I got my dad's sense of humor, his social ease, his passion for sports and people. I got my mother's cold logic, her sarcasm, her high expectations for herself and others. But I also got my mother's pessimism instead of my father's indefatigable optimism. I got my mother's anxiety in the face of an uncertain future, instead of my father's laissez-faire conviction that everything will always work out. I got my father's tendency to draw attention instead of my mother's admirable ability to stay silent.I can't imagine working for 30+ years, becoming a semi-renowned expert in my field, sacrificing advancement because I don't want to put my family at risk or move my kids to Europe for a year where they won't speak the language, only to see my desire for safety, certainty and comfort blow up in my face. I would be red-faced and raging. I would be snapping at my friends and family, desperate to understand why and how. When I got upset -- for my father, for his past and future sacrifice, for the unfairness -- my dad said, "Maybe I'll just go work for Coke or something. Atlanta's supposed to be nice. Braves tickets are probably cheap. I can't believe the Tigers traded Jujjens!" This kind of stuff is happening to everyone. I'm not suffering from the delusion that my family's plight is unique. But it's amazing to me that the Old Man can take it in stride.I don't think I've ever met somebody who didn't like my father. My charisma has an edge to it. My dad's is smooth. It glows a soft white, a contrast to my swirling blues and deep-red. There's no anger in my father's humor, no malice. I guess what I'm saying is: I wish I'd inherited that.
LadyGrey 6
what? there's something out there that you don't like? I DON'T BELIEVE IT.I enjoy listening to many different genres of music on a regular basis, from hip hop to opera to jazz to indie etc. There are few musical genres that I dislike on the whole. In conclusion: your comment is obtuse and inappropriate.

LadyGrey 6
aussies are worse than irish imoThey are pretty bad, especially the girls. It's weird because there are a lot of pretty Australian girls, but as soon as they start talking it is impossible to like them. If I were a straight man or a gay lesbian, I would have trouble deciding if it was worth it to date a hot Australian chick.

Six sigma lean manufacturing operations and manufacturing management bullshit professors make good money and get to enjoy a great quality of life, plus he could do consulting on the side. Furthermore, I have watched 2 seasons of Australia's Next Top Model. Overall, I think that's as much experience as you can get without flying for 24 hours straight to observe them in their natural habitat.

speedz99 145
Thanks, buddy! I also like outdoor showers, but I rarely get a chance to take them. Does it count if it's raining and I just stand there? Not really. Although I suppose it would count if you brought some shampoo and soap outside with you. You wouldn't have to use it, but just having it there makes it a shower, at least according to the shower standards I'm accustomed to. But it really comes down to semantics, and I know you aren't a fan of those kinds of arguments.
