anyone else not winning at poker?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure all the loyal FCPers read posts about people who have won hundreds and even thousands of dollars, tearing up the 10/20 and what not.I am not a winning online player, which is probably due to poor bankroll skills and lack of variance at the lower limit tables, but is anyone else hear losing.I study the game and have been playing a few years and feel my game is improving, but it is frustrating.Anyone else here not winning besides myself?

Personally I continue to have problems winning online. Overall I've been a losing player at ultimatebet. I find myself depositing again and again to no avail. Although I am starting to see a nice return now. I withdrew my first winnings in a long time and continue to play well at the .25 cent no limit tables. I think I'm starting to catch on to this online poker.Live play at the casino or house games is another story. I've been real successful at the casino near my house. This year alone I'm up $800 playing 1-3 no limit. I've consistantly been a winning poker player in live games.Yes this is my first post. I've been a lurker far too long. I'd like to contribute now. Good luck to the OP in becoming a winning player.

Over the last 3 years, I have not been a winning player. I play mostly small stakes limit. I cannot win online. I recently moved to a city that has casinos, so I can play whenever I want. Since Sept. I have been playing 3/6 limit at this casino and have been winning. I am serious about bankroll management. I keep records of every session. I find that when I can play at a B&M whenever I want, I play more relaxed. I do not play limit online any more. I sometimes will play a LN tourney online.

Last year, i was a winning poker player. But so far this year i have just been terrible. Stopped playing a Party b/c of the bad beats. Switched to Full tilt and have seen even more bad beats. I typically play heads up sit n gos on there and i know variance variance. But after so many drawouts and 2 outers you get tired of hearing about variance and just want to shoot someone. I think i may take the month off and concentrate on school cause this sh.it is getting old real quick.

There's no such thing as a lack of variance. QP/SM

Check out the strat sections. I've found it to help my game immensely. Posting hands I have questions on as well as analyzing other people's hands both have been very beneficial to me. Are those of you who are having trouble online using pokertracker? Again, that has helped my game quite a bit. As well as PokerAce HUD, that progam's a friggin' godsend.

i like that this thread is more real to the average player. I'm tired of hearing all the "i'm making loads of money playing poker online" stories.

Welcome! You may be a Matusow type. That is a compliment (although you may find it a bankhanded compliment). What I mean is you have a unique ability to make a read from looking at a player, and you lose that edge online. I would suggest playing fundamental poker online, don't try to make to many fancy plays, pretty much just play your cards until you get better at reading players online. Online, I would suggest to look more at betting patterns and making good notes about players. These notes should be simple for the most part, plays loose, plays tight, steams, plays poor hands out of position, calls raises with small pairs, slowplays top pair top kicker, ect.

You are exactly correct. I'll tell you what my problem is online, and why I am a losing online player. I still steam, tilt, however you care to describe it. I am getting better at it the older I get, but it is still a major issue. Online you play so many more hands, that the drawouts, bad plays, bad beats happen more frequently. This gives someone like myself and opprotunity to steam more regularly, thus putting me in a losing situation. I have resorted to tournament play only online, not sng's, but MTT's. The pace is much slower, there is a more of a premium of hanging on to the chips, and they have no monetary value. It has helped me tremendously, and I have been getting a better result on my bankroll. Live play is a different story entirely. I win live, and because the pace is so much slower, I steam less frequently. I have been a winning player live for a good while, steaming is still a leak in my live play game just not near the issue it is online. I play 6-12 holdem live and I am a winning player, a 6-12 limit game online, i am the fish.

As u can see ur not alone. I play mostly tournaments & have had 2 pretty nice cashes for $5,500 for 2nd place & $7,000 for 1st in another. They were 2 months apart. So I guess im due this month. Problem is I withdraw most of my winnings & spent it all. I leave some to play with but enter major tournys where the buy-ins are $100 or more. Of course things havent worked out there & I have nothing to show for my hard work. It seems Im reloading my account every week. So again as others have said it comes down to having proper Bankroll management.

This is not meant as a slight to the OP, but an opinion I have formed over my own experiences.Over the long hual, your long term win rates (in term sof BB/hr/table) will not be that much different between live and online play. In fact your long tern win rate live will probably end up being lower than online due to a higher rake, tipping, fewer hands per hour, no table selection, and food and expenses. What your probably experiencing live is the rush. Online, where a typical palyer will mutli-table, you'll see A LOT more hands and will help even out your up and down swings. In live play (with the slower game and playing only 1 table) your have to put in so many hours of play to guage your win rate that it probably be year of playing before you actually know how you're doing.Of course this all assumes that you are playing at the correct limit for your skill level. If you beat the lowest limits live (3/6), you should be able to beat the lowest limit online (.25/.50). If you barely beat live 3/6, you will NOT be able to beat 3/6 online (this might be your problem as well).Hand reading skills are NOT going to take you from being a losing player online to a winner player live (unless you're basically flaoting around the break even mark). Hand reading just doesnt make THAT much of a difference especially when compared to all the negative things i mentioned above about live play. For the record, I'm not that great of a player. Like the majority of winning players, I'm not making anywhere near the amount needed to quit my day job. I played online all of last year and managed to make about $400 at the .25/.50 limit holdem games (I averaged about 0.75 BB/hr/table. I averaged But I usually played about 3 talbes at a time and played a lot of hours. I've been playing only live (3/6) games lately at the local casino over the last 3 months. My current win rate is around .5 BB/hr/table (tipping/other expenses is eating me alive). The things I notice live:1. The game is incredibly slow2. The table seems much more passive (less raising).3. My win rate is about what I would expect.4. Table selection online is the key to everything.

4. Table selection online is the key to everything.Lets talk about that for a minute. What do you look for? I had a habit of taking the highest pot tables from the list, because it looked like that's where the highest profits would come. Lately, I find that I make more money going down the list to smaller pot averages where I generally find less agressive tables, and playing hard, really aggressive. It seems that the high SP$IP >35 tables are good when combined with a low aggression factor, TAF<40%.Sometimes that combination is hard to find. Which would you rather play in if you could only find one or the other? High VS$IP, or, low TAF?

I'll make a thousand one week and lose a thousand the next== break even player. I just play for fun and tourneys and the chance that I'll final table the big tourneys that I play. Until then, break even.
