Take your kids on a family vacation for Chrissakes...it's not like you've never played poker before, and, your kids will be grown and gone so fast that when you look back you won't believe it.You can play poker until you're 118+...children stop being children very quickly and forever.IMO

LOL at fake ID's from Chrozzo....both of my kids look older than Chrozzo :club: The Pinball Museum looks good. Shipping the kids and hubby off to the damn dam should buy me a whole day, right ? Jet skiing there would be cool too.
As long as it's warm enough.

Feb and/or April is pretty chilly in Vegas. A lot of the resorts close their pools too, so make sure you check before you go.Bowling at the Gold Coast, the Stratosphere seems made for kids, Red Rocks Resort has a great kid area and a nice bowling center, The Palms has a good movie theater, Red Rocks state park for hiking, The dam Dam, the lakes will be way too cold for any water activities, Treasure Island free pirate-es que show, Mirage has a little zoo and dolphins in the back for a fee, NYNY has a good arcade area a coaster and good pizza slices, Caesars Mall seems kid-ish in many areas, Fashion show mall across from the Wynn, Mall inside Planet Hollywood, Callaway golf center down across from mandalay bay, Fly Away indoor sky diving, etc. etc.other than that I would probably opt to make them stay home with Aunt Judy. :club:

Last time I was there, we went to Lake Mead and rented Jet Ski's and you can even jet ski over to hoover dam and see it from the water.
I read this quickly and thought you said 'jet ski over Hoover Dam'... and I was like, what a terrible idea, lol.Anyways, my parents used to take me to Vegas a ton before I was 16. I got left in the arcades a bunch, which was totally fun, except that now they are so freaking expensive, all the cool games cost like $1 a try/game/life/whatever, so expect them to spend more $ doing that than you will lose gambling. :)The amusement park at Circus Circus used to be pretty fun.And do all the other stuff everyone else suggested. :club:

Have them find Clonie Gowan and follower her around saying things like:" Mommy, can we have our allowance before you play poker this time?"and" Mommy, please don't meet any new uncles tonight"I think Howard Lederer will comp your whole week.

Here is my 2 cents based on actual experience. When my son was 13 he wanted to go to Vegas (this was about a year before I learned how to play poker.) He saw all of the roller coasters and stuff on TV and thought it would be a great trip. I bought a travel book about Vegas and kids. I thought we were prepared for lots of fun. HOWEVER... much of what was in the book and on TV was CLOSED. Yes, closed down since Vegas was starting its transformation back to what Vegas is... an ADULT playground. Pretty much, he spent much of his time at Gameworks and the back of Circus Circus. Trust me, living in Orlando, these items were a huge disappointment for him. We made the best of it, toured much of the strip and stuff but once the sun goes down the vibe was just not right for a 13 year old. There is less to do now then there was back then for kids. The Hoover Dam is cool but it is only a 3-4 trip. If you do decide to go anyway, rent a car, go to Hoover Dam, Red Rock and if you can take a couple of days, do the Grand Canyon. Make it a family trip. Circus Circus and Gameworks really doesn't have anything that you could not find anywhere else. With this said, I still would not recommend it when you could go ...ON A CRUISE! This is the best and easiest family vacations ever. As long as you do not go on a Disney Cruise, you should be able to get in some gambling without compromising your kids fun and or safety. There is so much to do on a cruise. I took my son on when when he was 8 (he is 20 now) and we were discussing that vacation over the weekend with his girlfriend. In fact, we were talking about all of our trips and in his memory this was the best one. There were so many other kids on the boat that he always had someone to do something with. He loved the pool, the ports of call and the shows. Royal Caribbean has really taken cruises to the next level with rock climbing walls and ice skating rinks. You will get kid time, you time and hubby time on a cruise and there is definitely something for everyone. I strongly recommend this for a family. I always thought DC would be a great family place to go. I could never convince my kid of it (though his girlfriend wants to go so maybe next year the three of us will go) I went as a kid (I was 10) and I LOVED IT! My sister who was 8 hated it. I love history and museums and art so for me it was a natural. I went back on my own at the age of 20 (I had a friend who moved to the area) and I loved it just as much then. Lots and lots of walking, so keep that in mind. I think that was the thing my sister liked least. She was tired and bored and was cranky. Keep that in mind. Anyway, my order would be Cruise, DC and then Vegas as a distant third.

Honestly I wouldn't take teens to Vegas unless you're the kind of parent who's already gotten them Playboy subscriptions. We haven't done the cruise yet but loved Club Med - the family kind, not the swinging kind. My kids are much younger but I'd check out Club Med (or one of the similar places) as an option. Some of the Club Meds are probably in locales that have casinos - maybe Punta Cana DR? The best part of Club Med is the kids get to do kid things with other kids plus you still get to spend family time when you/they want.

Tough one, but clearly the Tropicana museum, the Sahara rollercoster, the New York roller coaster, and pick a hotel with some serious pool action. If the kids are into role playing and dressing up ... tell them you are going to restaurants and drop some serious money.Show them this article on the 12-year-old food critic in New York:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/17/nyregion/17bigcity.html?emGet a hotel with flat screen tvs and game monitors.Preplan the trip with some games. A friend had his troop of teens occupied in a Vegas-wide treasure hunt where they roved as a pack collecting an amazing number of things. (eg) plastic coke drink container in six different colours (six teens), cube of glass with all their photos in it from the Harrahs market, a plastic phaser from the Star Trek hotel (Hilton but they had to find which hotel), ... and the list goes on. The kids were gone all day, all had cell phones, and no :ts there were no thongs on the list nor visits to the Mustang ranch. They had the time of their lives, and these six teens ... man ... it would take a brave thug to take them on, seeing that two of them are just shy of their black belts in karate, the other four high on aggression (girl included), so they were pretty safe. The parents bankrolled them enough and there were food related and drink related items to ensure they did not get dehydrated. There was an 'optional' list of items which they should normally NOT be able to get, to challenge the teens, such as $1 casino chips from as many casinos as they could get (they asked tourists and bought them with a stack of $1 bills), a photo of each member with a Vegas showgirls (OK, some of the photos turned my friend's hair white), a photo with a security guard with each member (pretty smart one I thought, but apparently this was a very tough one to get since the guards tend to be pretty serious in Vegas), a photo of each in a Gondola ride, and the list goes on.Just a suggestion, of course, and the group HAS to stay together. Suitable rewards like ringside seats at a magic show (there are some excellent ones in Vegas) the following night (not the same night, every kid collapsed and slept like ... someone that walked 10 kilometers in one day :club:

There is also one more thing to think about...Even though you may find some things for the kids to do there was one comment my son made to me while we were there that solidified I made such the wrong choice in going to Vegas with him. He stated that he felt uncomfortable there, not because of the all of the adult themed attractions, billboards, magazines, etc. but because it was rare when he would see anyone near his age. He felt like he was being stared at and that made him uneasy. Keep that in mind, seeing kids on the strip is not common place so people will naturally look at your kids (and you for that matter). This an an age when kids are at their most sensitive.Now... let me tell you my son's favorite vacation spot that is CHEAP, absolutely beautiful and has poker. Go to Costa Rica! San Jose has poker (I did not play) in a small casino. I know they have opened up a few more since I have been there... we went in 1999. What I liked best about Costa Rica is that there were not many distractions. Meaning, my son and I really bonded because we both had no clue what anyone was saying and visa versa. We climbed down a waterfall, we climbed through caverns, he went horse back riding on the beach, we went swimming, we hung out at hot springs, we toured the zoo and the gold museum, we went to a small town that had all kinds of folk art, we visited 2 active volcanoes. There was so much to do and we ran out of time. We were there for a week. Costa Ricans are wonderful people and being in the rain forest and black sand beaches was just out of this world. I felt like I was in heaven. But keep in mind there is a red light district. Luckily, it is contained within a couple of blocks and we never went by it. The only disturbing thing I saw was on the plane trip back. Boarding the flight was a bunch of white American middle aged men with their new Costa Rican love interest, beautiful women who were between 18-22. The men were beaming and the women looked depressed unless if he was looking at her. It was sad to see.Oh, one more thing. Costa Ricans love Americans and will treat you extremely well because their economy is similar to ours and they expect tips for services. Many Europeans travel there and do not tip so when they find out you are an American you get the royal treatment. Also, it is worth hiring a guide which we did for a day. He took us all over, spoke English, was extremely friendly and we got to really get a glimpse of the Costa Rican culture. Sorry to ramble so much... It is not that my son and I had a horrible time at Vegas but out of all of our trips together, it was the worst. I have been to Vegas 3 times since and had a blast. I love Vegas for me. And soon, he will be old enough to go and enjoy it. But as a young teen, it was not a great experience. And it was EXTREMELY expensive... each roller coaster ride is like $10 and last for 2-3 minutes tops. It is hard to stretch out the time on the few things they would like and each roller coaster type place is far from the next. Ok... I am done. I think :club:

You could always take them to the gun store(if anyone wants to go during golf outing this year just ask). I went a couple months ago and it ruled. If you don't like the idea of giving teens serious weapons I would also highly recomend the pinball hall of fame. I go there about once a month and always have a great time and its cheap.

Been there, done that........many timesI'm not pretending it's for them........I want to go away. My relatives don't want to babysit, so I'm thinking......What the heck, ?...... bring them along, they are old enough to play video games by themselves in the hotel at night when I'm off gambling. I just have to come up with enough things that they would enjoy during the daytime. I also refuse to do any of the amusement park things (Disney, Universal, etc) that my kids would prefer during a school vacation. When they were younger, we pulled them out of school for that, but can't get away with it in high school.Washington we did when they were very young, so it would be a totally different trip this time and more a "family" thing. The problem is with all of the walking. With my neck/back issues, it would be torture for me.A cruise or island thing is high on the list......I have to price out my options. Can americans still travel to the Caribbean with a birth certificate ? Does it still take forever to get passports ?
