When It Rains It Pours (stars Is Leaving Us)

i railed raymer in the WCOOP ME last night. he said that he thought the bill was essentially unenforceable. he said that he thought that the republicans were passing the bill to appease the conservative christian right, but that the law would not be enforced. he didn't say this was a certainty, just that there was a good chance it would be a law that was on the books but not enforced.

Even if party and stars jump ship someone will stay around and pick up all the US market. At the very most this will give a smaller site to become the new flagship of online poker. One way or another they will not be able to enforce this "law" there will be loop holes and people will find them. I really hope enough people care about this to really make a significant difference in the upcoming elections. VOTE DEMOCRAT OR LIBERTARIAN! (Did I really just write that?)Anyone know Frist's home address? Two words: Hate mail!

Lee Jones' official statement, fwiw Hi folks -Obviously, there are many unanswered questions at this point - we'll let you know more as time progresses. However, there are three important things that we can tell you right now:1. Your money is completely safe at PokerStars. It's kept in a segregated account at one of the largest banks in Europe.2. You do, and will, have 24/7 access to your account funds. You will always be able to get to your money.3. We have not made a decision one way or another as regards closing our American accounts. The other thing that I can promise is that we'll keep the lines of communication open to forums such as these. Stay tuned.Best regards,Lee JonesPokerStars Poker Room Manager

WOW!!!!! Nice ****ing vacation for me. ****ing unbelievable. I am truly......truly.....truly.....speechless. I listened to EVERYONE tell us not to panic and the first chance they get the sites bolt.
This was actually my first reaction- but I still think everyone is getting a little ahead of themselves. From what I can tell this doesn't make online poker illegal- and truth be told it already technically was- it just tightens up money transfer options. This basically will make for more hoops to jump through, which is annoying but in my opinion little more than that. Can anyone tell me if this statement is incorrect. I can got to Circle K, purchase a money order for whatever amount, and send it to FCP or whoever directly.(I have never done this but I know it's an option.) When it's time to withdraw they can send it to me from whatever bank it is they use, and I then deposit it into my bank. Or, I have it sent to Neteller and just use the little convenient Debit card they gave me. Where exactly is the point where I would get nailed, and should I even care? Wouldn't the american thing to do be do it anyway and damn the consequences?

Folks... you should look at the fact that Democrats supported this as well. Harry Reid (D - Las Vegas) supports this because his precious casinos support this. As a republican, I wrote both my senators and called both of them expressing my opposition to this. What I don't understand is that they (the US gov) can't stop me from playing. They can only make me go through hoops to get money into the accounts. I hope all of these sites allow the US accounts to stay on and give a collective middle finger to the government. The only enforcement the US gov can do is to make it illegal for US banks to do business with these companies. They can't block the IP traffic from the sites.
Bingo. All they really do is assure that the money stays away from U.S. banks. Anyone know how I can open a safe online bank account besidea Neteller that the U.S. has no jurisdiction over?

I just called Party, 1:30 am Pacific about a bonus error. thank you for posting this. I am so upset about this. I thought Republicans were about small government and not intruding onto people's personal lives? Then again they are the party of less taxes and yet we spend more and more on Iraq every day.I am so mad I cant see straight. Just leave us alone you bastards. I just left a voicemail for Bill Frist explaining my wrath. I suggest everyone on this board do the same more than once. The fact is we need to be active. This is completely unfair....but the stone cold truth is the religious wackos, morality monitors, and general fun-suckers are MUCH MUCH MORE VOCAL than we are. We need to let congress know that this is not some small throw away issue. Flood congressman's offices with emails, letters and voicemails. That is our only option.

Here's a glimps into the future for you guys.Bush signs billCongress then singles out poker and says it is 100% illegal to play poker for money on internet. None figures out how to enforce this.Neteller like company based in England accepts EFTs and advertises in Poker mags.Everyone signs up with out of country money manageronline poker continues the same as it was before billpeople relax and go back to screaming online is poker rigged now, when it was totally normal before we had to go over seas.Congress decides that since it can't stop/regulate online porn, than maybe online gambling is out of reach also.Hope you guys enjoy this view into tomorrow.

OK, before we all panic, im sure there are loopholes to this law. There are loopholes to everything. What keeps me from opening a bank account in Canada and transferring from that online? If they ban playing poker in the US, why couldn't you connect to a computer remotely in Canada and play from your home? Especially if you have friends or family there you trust. Technically you would be playing from Canada, just accessing it from the US.hmm....f the government, the founders of this country would roll over in their graves if they knew what it is now.

A good idea. I'm not a techie, but I believe you could set up a proxie in another country (eg. Canada) so that it appears you are playing 'from' that country. That should be an easy loophole to work through.

I was thinking yesterday, "I'm gonna do something I've never done before, Vote Democrat". I'm done with those morality legislating pricks once and for all. The whole package of swill the republicans (<---not worthy of capitalization) are selling for this November's election is no longer palatable. Anything I can do to slow down GW and his band of Jesus lovin' fucknuts, all the better.*L*T*
There is hope in the world. :club:

It would seem to me that a lot of you are missing the major issue here. Only the hard core poker players (sharks) are going to jump throught the hoops necessary to play online. The casual player (fish) isn't going to be bothered to set up an offshore bank account or run to their bank to get a money order. This will have a profound effect on the quality of the poker players on the net. It is going to become much harder for net pros to make a living.
