Pros Calling For A Boycott Of The 2007 Wsop Main Event

Recommended Posts

I heard two pros say at the WSOP that they were'nt going to play next year--it was a circus in 2006. It's bad for poker. We all know that Harrah's is planning on letting as many people enter the WSOP Main Event in 2007 as want to. I have read an estimate that Harrahs hopes to attract 20,000 players for the ME alone. That is bs. That is not a tournament to select a poker champion. I attended the WSOP ME in the 1980s. It was good for poker's image. Now it is bad for a top pro like Negreanu to play in the ME. Pros don't look good playing donkeys on ESPN. To the viewer who doesn't know poker, it looks like the donkey outplayed the pro. That couldn't happen in the PGA--no amatuer could beat Tiger Woods. If they could, then the viewer would think Tiger wasn't so great after all. This is what is happening to the image of the poker pros.Time for the poker elite to join together and refuse to play at the 2007 WSOP main event unless Harrahs can have a satellite tournament for the 200 or so top money-making pros and guarantee them that at least 5 seats at the final table will be reserved for the pros. Also, all of these donks who win their entry online or through satellites shouldn't be allowed to play against players who paid $10000 to sit at a table. There should be a satellite for the online donks and Moneymaker wannabes who have turned the ME sour--they aren't playing with their own money so they start playing like maniacs against the player who had to pay 10 large for his entry. That's not a level playing field.I heard two pros in Vegas at the WSOP say off camera that they were not going to play next year--that the tournament was bull. I support them if they do. Poker needs a better example of a tournament.

Thanks for proving once and for all time that you are a complete idiot. I can now safely ignore all your posts.
Haha these probably weren't the responses you were looking for when you made this thread.

No true pro should actually be bothered about appearing to be a donk on TV.

Or, you know, make the 50k buy in Horse event the true main event like DN wants. Like I've said before, the true poker player is a master of all forms of the game, not just hold em. But as far as the people who want to make money of poker are concerned, they know everyone is hold em crazy, so they try to make it the most played event because they know they will attract the most people.

That's a good idea, Tyler. One thing though. Since the 70s the Main Event traditionally selects the champion of poker. Now Harrah's has ruined the reputation of the tournament. The ME could be saved if a system can be created that guarantees 5 pros a seat at the final table. As for those who try to take this thread off-topic, take it elsewhere. And I like the picture of Gold with Pam Anderson in my avatar, so it stays.

Yeah, you're a complete idiot.Technically, even if their chance of winning goes down, the equity from the bad players more than makes up for it. Also the odds of them ending up with a difficult table goes down significantly with the addition of so many donks.'Any pro who said that they won't play next year doesnt like money.

Maybe they should just leave the main event the way it is and have a pros only event for full time pros. Maybe a 50k buy in for pros with 3 or more years experiance. No sat. to enter, each pro will pay for the buy in.

That has got to be the stupidest statement I've read on this board. The ME is about choosing a Champion, like Benny Binion imagined it. You're talking about money and equity. What a crock! This tournament chooses the world champion. Equity? By your idiotic rational, then there is more equity playing the lottery.

He wasn't talking about the aura of the main event. He was talking about why most pros would disagree with you.

Nobody cares about who the world champion is except Phil Hellmuth. Most poker players don't have the need to validate themselves with a meaningless title, they mostly just care about money. The title was meaningless back in the 80's and it's still meaningless now. It will always be meaninglessI'm pretty sure that's not what my logic means. In fact, I'm 100% sure my logic doesnt lead to your final statement.

Ok, so if 'Pros' are calling for a 'boycott of the 2007 main event' should I not play?
I only overheard two top pros calling for a boycott. You can make up your own mind if you want. There has to be alot of pros at the final table to make the ME legitimate. The way to get the top pros a guaranteed spot at the final table is by having a satellite just for the top money earners of each year.As for those who call troll on the OP, I stand by the statement that if you are going to bring up equity in the ME then you might as well play the lottery for a buck because you will get several million to one. That's a crock. The ME is about selecting the champion.I can tell now that there are few here who were around in the 80s when the WSOP main event was cool. Now it's become a joke--one pro making the final table in 2006 in an event billing itself as the one selecting the World Champion is a joke.

eh so what..........boycott it.............then there will be only 19,900 entries.......Anyone can enter any poker tournament at any time (except invitationals)- thats one thing that differs it from any other sport. A big part of the appeal of the game is that all of us can sit down with the best players in the game and test our luck/skill.Taking away an opportunity for the general public to play is bad for the game.Whats next? - Pro's only table's in local casino's?Daniel has said there is a professional players tour/league coming - THAT is for the pro's.
