I do not have fairy tells of becomign some big professional poker player (although I do and would contribute income from that), but plan on getting a job inside of a casino.Does anyone have any advice on this? How to get a job in a casino, etc? Yes I have a degree. Yes I have had 10 years of managerial experience, etc.I am currently looking into housing issues, where the heck to live. No wife and kids so that makes it easier.Any help/advice/suggestions would be apprecaited.

Golden 2
I've lived in vegas before - it is amazing. The rents are fairly low, just avoid downtown (obviously) and the eastern side of town. (Everything east of the strip) The west side is much nicer, IMO. If you get a job inside a casino, you will have to get a Sheriff's card (all casino employees, gaming and non-gaming have to have one of these). Getting the card involves a few hours of waiting in a downtown Police station, which can be oh so fun. The interesting part is, the job has to send you to apply for the card - you can't get it earlier. If you're going to be around or handle alcohol in the job, you'll have to get a TAM card, which the job again will send you to, which is a 2 hour class. Most jobs don't let you start until you have these cards, and of course the cards cost money.Aside from that, make sure you take the 13 mile car tour of Red ROck Canyon. BEAUTIFUL.Good luck, and I'll see you when I get back there in a year or so.

Aside from California and Boston/NYC, Vegas has the biggest bubble going right now. You are virtually assured to lose money on a house unless you buy and sell it before the whole market comes crashing down. That's all I had to add to this conversation...back to lurking for me. nutzbuster 7
My good neighbor/buddy moved to LV from Phoenix 8 years ago. He rolled the dice and took a job as a chef at the Mirage (Renior or Cocomo's, can't remember). He purchased a house then at Summerlin for around 145k and keeps the Phoenix house as a rental. (BTW the West side of Vegas is the better side). His 1700sf Phoenix house is now appraised at over 280K (paid around 90K back in '91). Vegas is roughly the same market so I think it's safe to say you'll pay around 290 to 320 for a 13 year old 1700 SF house there.Regarding the inevitable bubble, I think it will be more of a little leak out here rather than a collapse. The West will always be a very good housing market, especially with all the boomers getting ready to retire and move away from the colder states. I'm expecting a Phoenix/Vegas 10% housing correction, max. but keep in mind that 10 years from now you will be way ahead buying rather than renting. Not sure if any of this helps but thought I'd share anyway. Good luck with your move and the job hunt.Best...
