  1. I saw the announcement yesterday. DN is going to have a weekly Poker column in the Sports section of the Sun 8)
  2. Your raise is right in line with what should be bet, you just happened to pick up AA when everyone else had garbage in their hands. I think if you bet less than that you're opening yourself to someone playing junk and catching 2 pair which blows. You could've tried maybe an overbet (8-10x BB) to make others think you're trying to steal. I don't view 4x bets as steal type bets, especially with 4 others in the hand who've already called. 4x is basically "I have a strong hand" not a "I'm bluffing to steal" bet. I think in the end, how you bet this should be determined by what kind of table ima
  3. Great comeback 8) I pulled a great comeback on a $20 SnG on Party Poker. Not the limit you're talking about but I was still happy.I got crippled the second hand in with my AA getting cracked by AQ....guy caught a flush with his Q  This left me with 5 chips and a full table. Instead of people schooling me to put me out I was only getting 2-3 callers when I pushed my stack in. I proceeded to double and triple up 7 times in the next 10 hands. Even caught a Royal Flush along the way :-) . Slowly but surely I scraped my way back and wound up winning the SnG. As they say, all you need i
  4. What's wrong with ppl calling trips "sets"? I've always done this. If I'm not mistaken, they are the same.as you missed the discussion from a couple of days ago....set: you have a pocket pair and flop one of said pairtrips: you have two different hole cards and flop a pair that matches onetechnically they're both trips but while a set can be called trips, trips can't be called a set.
  5. re: the initial hand being discussed: I think the all in could have been avoided. People have been saying "what did you think he had when he called the 8K" and that's where you made a slight mistake. Sure you had two pair but when the Q comes on the turn and you've put him on single J what might he have been playing with the J? J/10, JQ, JK would be my best bets....considering no raises with the limpers I'd say J/10, JQ are the best bets. You're only losing to one of those (the one that got you) so I don't think it was a particularly bad move but I think I'd have avoided the all in and jus
  6. Wish I had known about this, I would've come. Please keep us posted for the next one, I'm in for sure.BTW - Nice play Marion, congrats 8)
  7. I was in the $30,000 guaranteed NL Hold'em on Party Poker yesterday and ran into this hand.It was about 2hrs into the tourney, 220 out of 1700 left (pays top 170), chip average 6k, blinds 200/400 and I was comfortably stacked with 9600. I'm UTG and pick up KK. I raise 2x the BB so I'll get a caller or two. Someone 3 seats left of me goes overtop of me to 1200. Everyone else folds and I reraise all in. The other guy immediately calls and shows me AA. Even if I had just called his reraise, I still would've sent my stack when the flop came Q,9,2 rain. I don't think there was any way
  8. Can't see how he might think this was directed at him
  9. Can you imagine how big the stacks will be on the final table? They're gonna need little side tables (maybe big ones) for each of the players to put their chips on LOL
  10. OK, maybe not "ace "the test but definitely they can improve on previous ones. Your brain does get better a certain types of puzzles the more you do them so IMO, people can "improve" their IQ once they familiarize themselves with the kinds of questions they'll be seeing. Of course you will top out on this at some point so I guess the score acheived once you've gotten used to the types of questions would likely be fairly accurate.
  11. IMO IQ tests are not that reliable. I get bored at work sometimes and try some of the various available tests. I've scored anywhere from 120-173 so IMO, you can get a general idea of where you would fall in the IQ charts but I wouldn't take any one result as a serious indicator. Proper test administration is key too. I think some of the better IQ tests have time restrictions. Given enough time, anyone can ace a IQ test with some hard work.
  12. Canadians playing in casino tournaments in the US do have a percentage of their winnings kept back. There are some forms to fill out to get the money back once you've returned to Canada though.
  13. LOL. Just to show there's no hard feelings, give me a call when you're of age and I'll buy ya a drink
  14. I'm crushed by your witty rebuttle
  15. Royal Vegas has nice starting chips (for both SnGs and MTTs, 1000/1500) and a 10 or 12 minute blind structure. IMO, one of the best MTTs with regards to buy in vs. payout is the 12k guaranteed $20 NL HE on RV. Not a huge field (average around 500 I believe) which I think is a bit easier on people than those 2000 + fields
  16. Smash, nice constructive response as usual
  17. I wouldn't have called the 1000 never mind the all in. There are just way too many hands that have TPTK beat and people could be playing (can think of 10 off the top of my head). Not worth the risk, I would've gotten out after the 1000 bet.
  18. What does this mean exactly? Are you saying that because he's up he wouldn't (or shouldn't) go gamble or are you implying that if he has 40k to gamble with he'd already know how to do this?
  19. IMO, I'd say strong math skills are more important than a high IQ. IQ tests go for overall skills in several areas with math only being one. Someone with a high IQ will have done well on the test with the math type questions and other areas not necessarily related to requisite poker skills. Someone who scored poorly on a IQ test but is a math genius can still do well with poker, they may just have difficulties in the other tested competencies. That said, I think it would be rare to find someone brilliant at math who couldn't score in the average/slightly above average intelligence on an IQ t
  20. Generally I'd prefer to only call with these if I was on the puck or in a blind. If you can only afford to play the low limit NL tables it's a bad call from your position. That said, with enough limpers/flat callers, you could be getting decent odds to see a flop. For a buck, I'd see it. I'm not overly worried about being reraised as I can always lay it down if the raising gets stupid. If you hit the flop hard (like you did) it's unlikely the flop helped anyone else, and people are unlikely to put you on them. Personally I like my suitted connectors a little higher up though, say around
  21. This is softplayingYeah, it's softplaying, but it it cheating? Does this give either of you an advantage over the field? In limit ring games, certainly not. Once everyone else is out of the hand, it makes no difference (to the field) who wins this hand since stack size is unimportant. In NL, a big stack can be wielded against shorter stacks, so dumping to create a chip leader would clearly be cheating, but this is just not betting a hand any further. If this is tourney play, then I would say what you're doing is wrong. In ring games, I dont think it's a problem.IMO, softplaying in this s
  22. IMOConspiracy: plotting/reaching an agreementCollusion: Acting on the agreementI think they're the same thing only one is the planning aspect and the other is putting the plan into action.
  23. I think if they can put up the cash so be it. I'm of age but have a young aquaintence (16) who has been making a fortune at PP. I've taken the kid off in live games virtually every time he's sat with us but can't come close to his online record. In the past year he's up about 100k playing large MTTs and 30/60 ring games   Annoying because I know he has no live game and I can take him off at will in person. Frankly, knowing how he withdraws and plays more than one account in the same tourney, I have doubts as to the validity of PP's collusion tracker :? Anyway, I guess I ha
  24. I'm around 20-23% on average for a ring game 10 handed. Percentage goes up about 3% for every 2 players out. For SnGs, the percentage goes up significantly but that's due to more shorthanded play.
