I'm headed to Reno Wednesday - Saturday for some NCAA tourney betting and I'd like to spend a good chunk of time in card rooms. Any suggestions on the best spots to play? 1-2/2-2 games are so bizarre I really can't see raising pre-flop from the blind here, unless you're actually going to shove. Guys at my room limp huge and call wide. A forty dollar raise could see three callers and put you in a horrible spot post when any over hits. With 9-9 you have to dodge too much of the board to play well post-flop. That said, with 99 and that stack, you could make it 55 pre flop and put the other 80 in post.Pre-flop is going to get a lot of back and forth from the different camps, but I think there's only one flop play for you and that's a check-shove. That turn's a really good card to bet, imo. It shouldn't hit anything he's just calling with and it allows you to continue repping a large hand. In my mind, if you fire the flop you have to fire that turn. If you're not comfortable doing that, checking the flop is probably the better play for you.Then you get small blockered on the river which ices you pretty nicely here. This is a guy you're going to have position on, so if you're curious, I think the call is worth learning how he plays for that price. You're even occasionally taking down a pot from a monkey. I'm calling all day there. The bet sizing is more a 'I guess I'll bet if no one else wants it' than a 'I've got it' or 'I want you to think I've got it.'If I'm wrong, it's all good b/c I feel like they should have gotten more out of me.

Someone raising qj UTG is never folding toppest pair on that turn. Especially since they've picked up the gut shot.The chat didn't influence anything. The money was going in.

How long have you been at this table? When you say 'no reads', does that mean you just got moved there? Otherwise anything you've got is useful, did he limp the hand before, etc...It's such an idiot play that it's the old reverse double reverse and I level myself into calling here.

I tend to have a rule of calling stupid shoves from half stackers. The problem here is the flat from mp, then the shove. In those spots I like to let it go. I'm drunk.

The only hand you're worrying about on the turn is KK, and you have spades to go with your set. I much prefer raising turn. If a 10,j,a or club fall on river it gets weird. .25 omaha you see some bigger hands getting limped, so if you're coolered by the kk, that's just the breaks, but you get value here too much to just flat, especially oop.

In this spot I'm betting the Q always, almost never the A. Both is c/f.You have two jacks so you cut down the QJ combo severely. QA in theory should raise (I know it's limit so bleh..) but still you'll see q combos so much less on a lone over board than you will a9off or whatever junk chase the ace players are calling with.

Quick comment:As far as your home game goes, .50 may be the appropriate raise. Live game raises are normally bigger, and this seems like a cash game not a tourney where your M is naturally dwindling.Also, don't hit and run your friends.

Ugyone;I think the issue at hand is this: There's a hundred threads like this, maybe a thousand, that have been started on this forum. A newer poster, (less than 10 posts almost always) posts a hand where they got their money in good, were run down and then they ask 'Could I have played this differently?'But the thing is, it's not really a question, because if you sat and thought for just a second you'd see you that you got the money in good and that's all you can ever do. The riverbet opened the door for awkwardness, if I have a few buy ins in my pocket I call, if I don't I fold. The line we took looks weak so I could see villain making a move since you say he's active and bluffs rivers. Bad spot to be in, check to river bluffers imo.

How people play is as important as the number of people in the hands. 3 handed, yeah I think I'm flatting this 3 bet or making a 4 bet if the rhythm of how everyone's playing is right for it. You play with these guys a lot? Take mental note when they make moves like this so you can assign a range of hands they'll do that with, then adjust your play accordingly.Good to be adjusting to number of people at the table too, though, you're right about that.

I'm calling that unless I see something in a read on the guy. Has he shoved hard over the top of bets before? What's he shown up with then?
