i think it does hurt sometimes... i normally like to play live cash games and if i have played a lot of online and then go to AC i can see that i am a little more impatient at the start... i think its because online is much faster... and you get to see a lot more hands

for some reason i haven't been able to win online recently, but haven't lost live...is anyone else experiencing similar results?some reasons i think this may be happening are:1) because online you don't hold/see real money i am less patient and don't seem to care as much about my virtual "roll"2) i can read people better when i see them live3) online i can never walk away when i am up big4) i am always doing other things on the computer or at my house when playing online5) it seems i take way more bad beats online than during live play, but i think that is because there are worse players online who make more bad calls which lead to worse beats - plus i see so many more hands when playing online.____________________________________________________________www.pokulator.com check the odds, raise your game

I believe that online play can hurt your live play. For both tournys and ring games. There are numerous reasons for this. I really don't want to go into too much detail, but I can think of players that I know who excel online, but don't make the transition well to live.

I've been playing a fair combination of online and live games...and I have found online play to actually be helpful to my game. Besides helping me practice games to expand my poker horizons...such as Razz, playing a few sessions online has helped me become more patient...I could elaborate...but to be honest...who cares..?

I cant make the transition...I wanted to ask the floor man if I could 2 table..I think tipping dealers is -EV, but I still tip them, but then sometimes i forget to tip and I remember on the next hand I win so I tip double, but then I forget to tell the dealer that I tipped double cuz I forgot to tip the first time...sooo the third time I win I tip a buck and I feel obligated to tip 2.. but i dont cuz im cheapsometimes when I threw away a good hand, say 99 cuz there was too many raises, if the flop came a 9 I would say "MOTHERFUUCKER!!" and throw my hands up in the air. yea...I gotta fix my bad habbits from online..

it does if you suck and want to make excuses for yourself.in psychology we call this a locus of control. internal good, exteral bad.blaming others and your surroundings only creates worse schema(tic)s in your behavior and does nothing for your game. be liquid. adapt.

When you make that crazy bluff online, you don't have to act calm and keep a straight face to help conceal your hand. you can pretty much do whatever you want... scream ,yell, jump up and down as your opponnent lays down the winning hand. who cares, no one can see youbut when you go back to live play, your opponnents will study you and pick up on tells that indicate that you are bluffing, you can't get away with the same things you could do online how's your buddies poker face? does he act tense when bluffing?

You really shouldn't play nearly the same live as you do online. This is pretty obvious, online play can hurt your game if you treat it the same way. Online players overvalue aces more and play much more aggressive. You aren't seeing nearly as many hands per hour live, and playing too many hands hurts you much worse than it will online, as long as you play patiently though and pay attention to the other players you should be able to play both and be just fine.

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless--like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup,You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle,You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can *flow* or it can *crash*!Be water, my friend.-- Bruce Lee

Haha looks like someone read the Tao of Poker. But seriously, that is probably the best advice to give in such few words.
lolno. i'm a taoist. it's from the real deal (lao tsu). I gotta check the poker one though out. Also, "The tao of steve" is one of the best movies you could see though.and about the bruce lee reference, he was a big taoist, and the art of was is a good basis for his martial arts. Every fighting style has a counter, it's adaptation, which is where the animals in kung-fu come from (it s a counter point system.). This is also the same resason you can see harrinton and hansen at the same final table. any style works, just adapt to how you are being played. and that brice lee quote is basically the toa te ching. just reworded.

Online poker has allowed me to see all the strings of rushes and bad beats that are possible. Now I don't tilt in live games. Well, not live limit games at least. I still want to punch people in the face on a regular basis at 1/2 NL. Sometimes even when I'm not in the hand.

I'd first like to congratulate Kenny on starting a thread that actual led to valuable and thoughtful discussion. That being said, I definitely think that patience and focus can be difficult when swithcing from online back to live. I find it hard to stay focused, especially watching all of the ESPN wannabes mulling for a long time over decisions. Also, not seeing as many hands as online.I also have a hard time channelling my anger after a bad beat, as online, no one can see me throwing my beer bottle against a wall, or berating my computer screen, but I think that would be frowned on in a casino. Also, since I haven't seen the obligatory gay reference in this thread, I'd just like to add that I want to be the meat in a Ron and Royal sandwich.

lol i haven't really read the Tao of Poker, just the Tao te Ching. But it was obviously a Tao concept. I've seen the Tao of Poker at the store though, might be interesting.

I went like three months without playing a live game and only played online. My online play was awesome, but it took me a while to get readjusted to playing live, so I would say playing exclusivly online is bad for your live game. However, now I play live and online almost daily and I feel like my play in both is the best its ever been.
