Spademan 94
Ending a sentence with "at" is grammatically incorrect. The proper response to me telling you this is to say, "Alright then. Where do you play at, asshole?"

guinevar 0
Ending a sentence with "at" is grammatically incorrect. The proper response to me telling you this is to say, "Alright then. Where do you play at, censored?"Spademan,Your "With Honors" reference is well received, but the grammar instruction you offer is fundamentally flawed. It comes from something called "Prescriptive Linguistics" where those with power will dicatate the acceptable language norms. The rule which disallows the usage of prepositions at the end of sentences actually comes from Latin, and was "prescribed" to English."Descriptive Linguistics" is the way the linguistic world prefers to identify itself. As you can obviously see from its name, Descriptive Linguistics is describing the state of language in a sample population. This is much more allowing for the individual expression of those in a free state, especially where the freedom of speech is so highly valued.Prescriptive linguistics taken to greater extremes can infringe on the individual freedoms of others and can actually be downright dangerous concerning certain subjects. Surely you don't want to stand on the rights of other FCPers, right? OP, continue to end your sentences with prepositions all you like. It's constitutionally sound and your civil duty. You may now continue with your poker jibber jabber.Guinevar

I have a pretty good grasp of Latin & English, and was just wondering how Latin caused the dangling modifier rule. I don't doubt it -- just was looking for some clarification.
