Hey all, I've got a quick question. I've been to Vegas a few times, but only to gamble and stay with a friend who is a high roller at Bellagio. Frankly, I barely even remember the experiences, other than the fact that I may or may not have slept with a prostitute.Anyways, I'm going back in a few months, but this time with my girlfriend. I need some help to find a hotel that satisfies the following needs:-decent price ($125 per night tops)-on or walking distance to the Strip-poker room with a good spread-shit for girlfriend to do while i play-maybe a decent priced show to go toI suppose I could just look this crap up on vegas.com or something, but I trust your opinions more than some paid reviewer on a travel website.Thanks.

It's ok man, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Yet again it will still be there when you go back.

I don't think they "stays in Vegas" part applies to Syphillis.

Yeah I guess, but he was talking about how he knows/ doesn't know if he slept with a prostitute.

Thanks for the responses so far.greatwhite - I knew where you were going with that first comment, and I liked it.Can anyone expand on the Excalibur idea? I have seen they have really good room rates, and it sounds like the location is nice also. If they have a poker room with decent limits (5-10 max) then I'm sold. They don't have any freaks running around in costume, talking like it is still the Middle Ages, do they?edit: How about Luxor too? Good place?

Dont worry about the poker room at excalibur, like someone else said its connected to the mandalay bay which has a great card room and a great pool for your girlfriend. Stay at the excalibur and take the 20 second tram ride to play at mandalay.P.S. Blue man group sucks as does every other show in vegas that costs under 85 bucks a ticket.

well, cheesy....thats what i was talking about excaliber...they do have costumed freaks running around and it does get annoying...but you arent hangin there, just sleeping cheap...and Blue Man doesnt suck...If you took a poll on here...Im sure BMG would get great reviews

I stay away from the Excalibur at all cost. It's the only casino in Vegas that I have seen puke on the floor...not once but on two seperate occasions. My vote for inexpensive would be the Aladdin...it's centrally located (Bellagio is right across the strip), decent rooms.I am heading out there in 3 weeks but staying at the Bellagio... I can't wait.

Man Ive see that crap 3 times and it gets progessively worse everytime I see it like my play after I drink 6 crown on the rocks. Thank God the tickets were free everytime. Id much rather see Mystere at the Treasure Island since the ticket prices arent to far off.

My favorite place to stay is at the Flamingo. Great location (central strip, only minutes from Bellagio, Mirage, Aladdin, etc.), great rooms, and cheap. Maybe I'm partial to it because I hit a royal flush there, but I love it.I never go to see shows in Vegas, so I can't help ya there...and Aladdin is my favorite card room.

The Stratosphere is extremely reasonable for Vegas. Their weekend rates are only like $110 for two queens, although if you want a King Bed it's more like $200. They have a poker room, but they're at the very end of the strip.

Speedz -Mind if I ask what dates you're going? The same room can be under $100 or over $300, depending on the hotel and time period. One place to consider would be Barbary Coast. It has a great mid-strip location, so you're right next to Bellagio, Caesars, and Ballys. It's very small (only a couple hundred rooms) and doesn't have a poker room, but you'll have the Bellagio right there. It also doesn't have a pool, but if you're going in November or December, that probably isn't an issue. The rooms are much nicer than one might guess by looking at the exterior. Also, what's your max. $ you're willing to spend per show ticket?

We'll be staying on a Wednesday and Thursday night in late September. Yeah, I really wish it was in August because we are going right after the prices double. I did take a look at Barbary Coast. I'm struggling to decide if I want to sacrifice staying in a nicer hotel for the Strip location. I personally don't care about having a pool, since I live in Phoenix and can go to the pool every day of the year if I want. By the way, I see you're from Chicago. So is my girlfriend, and if she were here she would tell you to get the hell out and move down here...I think the max ticket price for a show would be around $75. I don't know if that is enough, though. I was hoping that we could get away with two nights in Vegas with $200 for hotel and $150 for a show. I didn't need Bellagio and Cirque Du Solei (sp?) top quality, but it looks like my estimate might have been low for midgrade hotel and entertainment.

I used to live in California and my husband and I use to go to Vegas all the time. We've stayed at a lot of the hotels on the strip. If you can find a decent rate the Aladdin, NY NY, Treasure Island and Monticarlo are all nice. I woundn't stay at Excalibur, but that's just not my type of place. As far as shows go, I've only seen Mamma Mia and Mystere. They were both great. I'm not sure what those tickets are going for now. Good luck and have a great trip.

I second that... I've stayed at Luxor and the rooms are nice enough (for the rate). FWIW, I'd take Cleo and Tut over the Knights and Wizards any day.

I recommend the Monte Carlo. Prices range anywhere from $49 to $119 depending on event/season. It's a nice hotel located across the street from MGM, next to NY NY and only a few minutes walk from Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Bellagio and Aladdin. They have their own poker room, small but nice, spreading the low limits (no 2-4, not that small). For shows I'd check out a magazine called What's On, they may have a website but it's found in all the rooms.Good luck.

I just stayed at the Sahara last month.Price was excellent, room was OK and no italian marble or anything, but it got cleaned everyday. Its right on the monorail - (which was great because I was going to the convention center everyday.) But you can get all the way down to the MGM and the Sahara has its own station. The Amazing Johnathon is really good, http://www.saharavegas.com/shows/amazingjohnathon.htmland they have another show with the Platters, the Coasters and Drifters which I've heard is good, but I haven't seen. They have a nice pool also. Shopping is limited but again, the monorail fixes it. As for poker - the poker room is nothing to write home about, 2/4 HE and 1-4 4-8 HE, play ring games elsewhere, but they have great tournys daily. At 11:00 AM, 7:00 PM and then 11:00 PM - buy in is $40 +2 and one $20 rebuy gets you T2000 + T1500 - you'll get lots of play for your money and the 7:00 tourney are usually full so that top spot cashes about $2000 They have cheap blackjack for the little lady and even a roller coaster. You could do worse, and the fact its too far to walk to the heart of the strip has been rendered moot by the monorail, and the bus to downtown leaves from the base of the mono-station. This is a good map to get a feel for where it is.http://www.vegas.com/transportation/monorails.html

Just got back from Vegas. Stayed several places there one of which was Excalibur. Pretty cool place and no funny people running around in constumes that I remember. You may see visitors wearing wizard hats that they bought after seeing the show but thats about it. The poker room has 1-3, 2-6, and NL holdem. Its a different betting structure in that you have some flexibility in your bets. i.e. in the 1-3 game, you can bet 1/2/or 3 chips on all streets and raises likewise. Same with 2-6 but in higher increments obviously. The room has 15 or so tables and are pretty well spread out so you don't feel crammed in as in other rooms about town. They have tourneys throughout the day but I don't remember the times, buyins, etc. They also have a nice appetizer buffet in the poker room that is free to players that goes from 2-8 pm.I have no real complaints about the place.
