Poker, dogs, dogs playing poker, etc.
  1. I recommend the Monte Carlo. Prices range anywhere from $49 to $119 depending on event/season. It's a nice hotel located across the street from MGM, next to NY NY and only a few minutes walk from Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Bellagio and Aladdin. They have their own poker room, small but nice, spreading the low limits (no 2-4, not that small). For shows I'd check out a magazine called What's On, they may have a website but it's found in all the rooms.Good luck.
  2. Or read "The Tao of Poker", it's a light read with refreshers about what kind of state of mind you should attain when playing. There's also a section about just the sort of thing you're going through (a long stretch of losing sessions). There is no technical advice in the book, though.I went through a bad spell and almost let it get to me but I just said to myself, F**k it, I'll play the way I know I should, keep myself open to improvement, and above all, come to the game because I love it. Once you lose your love for the game you're toast.
  3. Not quite on topic but I love the players across the table who telegraph their fold AND tip their cards up slighlty towards me (unknowingly) so I know what they are folding, helps me calculate my outs better.
  4. This is all pretty basic stuff. Some starting hands have a better +EV against fewer callers than others. AA is a wonderful example. Some starting hands actually have a better +EV against larger fields and lose EV in heads up or 3 way action, like 89 suited. Ofcourse the flop will really determine your best course of action from there on out. If you've got AA against 6 callers with an uncoordinated flop then your EV is still good, keep raising and be leary when you get resistance but know that you did the right thing.3/6 is beatable (I play 4/8 but hang around 3/6 when waiting for a seat).
  5. I play at Sunset Station regularly to master my low limit skills. All the station casinos are linked to a great bad beat jackpot (always over $100,000). I don't play specifically for the jackpot but it's nice if someone hits over at Boulder Station and I get $200 or more for just sitting at a game.I usually play 4-8 because it's the most profitable for me but I see regulars there who clean up every time on the 3-5 no limit table. If I was a better no limit player I'd be there every night. The comps are ok ($1 an hour for food only) and the staff are great. Still looking forward to GVR openi
  6. If poker was 90% luck then no one could be a consisitent winner in the game. Do you think grinders are a fairy tale? Read Sklansky and you'll get a better idea of what the true ratio is.
  7. I still don't get why Jesus is offensive to DN. There are literally millions of guys in Latin America with that first name.
  8. Playing NL has helped my limit game. NL has taught me to be tighter, more aggressive in the right spots. I'm fearless in a limit game because I already accept that sometimes I'll get sucked out on the river but most times I won't. In NL if I get sucked out on the river (or turn) then it was completely my fault for not betting correctly. Limit takes away that pressure and allows me to play a more mathematical game, and a bad beat will not affect me (ok, maybe 3 in a row...).
  9. No limit is like riding your Harley 100 mph naked.Limit is like riding your Schwinn uphill with a crash helmet.
  10. Daniel's a great guy and it's nice that he gives, wonderful really, but...You have to keep in mind he's banked over 4 mil in the last year or so, but...He's not one one these rich bastards who stiff all the "little" people because by god they made it without any help and I'll be damned if I give some one a gawd-damned penny of my hard earned fortune etc, etc.So, yeah, Daniel is aces and one of the classiest Pros around. Definitely a role model in poker and life.
  11. I stopped by Sandia and Rt. 66 casinos while driving through N.M last week. Sandia is a big room by N.M standards but no NL hold em on the Sunday I was there so settled for 6-12 and did ok. Fellow players were like the typical locals I find in Las Vegas. Mostly accountant types who are playing out there own version of a WSOP fantasy and a few grinders as well. Fortunately, a few young kids playing too many 2-outers to the river ($$$).Route 66 has like a 8 or ten table room with blackjack tables on one side (?!) and a friendly staff. Their advertised tourneys aren't always going but they w
