I need some input on this..........I'm thinking of getting some sunglasses for my upcoming poker excursion. The first thing I thought when I went on Oakley's website was "Damn, sunglasses are expensive", but the second thing was what kind of tint and all that sort of thing to get. If anyone knows anything about this, help out. I'm thinking I should order a pair that doesn't reflect (I dont even know if this would matter, do the angles match up that your cards would show?) and that you can't see my eyes. So if anyone knows what lenses would provide those two attributes, hook me up.

You can go with a cheap pair of shades from the local corner store, but I hate going cheap... I love buying something and going for the best... I bought myself a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators 3 years ago and they are still in great condition. Oakley's are a fad, they aren't even glass. You are paying 500$ for plastic shit. Go for glass or go home IMO, then again, home games don't really require one to wear shades considering the level of play. Save your money and invest in Small Stakes Hold'Em by Sklansky.

Ok, I should've been more clear I guess. Smash, I dont want them to try to try to play the role. Especially something like Raymer's, those things are lame. I can handle the frame part, something small and subtle. Just a little added insurance guys.

Initially when I first started playing tournaments I had a hard time concealing emotion. I bought glasses. (I no longer wear them at the table)I would recomend this to a new player if for no other reason than adding confidence. This is in tournaments only as you might be up against some talent. At the lower level ring games, they are unesessary because someone who is able to "read your eyes" will not be at those limits. AND if you wear them to watch without others knowing, remember the players at that level aren't really trying to hide anything. That being said, I would recomend Maui Jims. I've now had the same pair for 2 years. I wear them everywhere. Driving inc. They are EXTREMELY light weight. (Due to Titanium, and plastic lenses) DO NOT BE Concerned about the plastic lenses. They are some special blah blah blah. With constant use and cleaning, mine have not scratched at all. Worth the weight savings. They are also polarized which is great in all aplications. Also VERY comfortable, I often forget I'm wearing them. I personally like the amber lenses due to my hair and skin coloring, but the black are more reflective and will hide your eyes better. (you can BARELY see my eyes with amber... barely. no pupils or direction) However the black is also darker so you will have dificulty seeing your cards in low light situations.Hope that helps

I know sunglasses are very important the other day I was playing poker with the boys and the guy had me convinced he had me beat then I took on last look at his eyes I know I had him beat. Ends up I was right. I went home and started looking for sunglasses. One good site I found was http://www.sunglassofthemonth.com homes this helps you win more pots. When I am not at the table.

http://www.framesdirect.com/framesfp/Eyewear-lanftc/lb.htmlBlack.Glass.Timeless.Don't be a fashion victim, buy one pair, wear them forever.
Smash: not that I would expect you to post anything else, but you must not have a very trendy fashion sense. Not that that's a bad thing but Oakleys aren't even trendy, they're just good sunglasses.I have the Oakley's I linked in the post above in the a silver frame with ice iridium lenses (I'm not sure if you can get this combo, I got it from Oakley as a custom combo because I needed prescription lenses made)... I rarely use them for poker but they're great sunglasses.

Phil Ivey's wife bought him some expensive shades once upon a time. He wore them once and missed a read on a player that cost him some good money. He promptly threw them in the trash and hasn't worn shades since.I advise not wearing them in low limit games unless your ego can stand getting ribbed for looking like a moron due to the fact that you are wearing sunglasses where the sun don't shine. They are superfluous at low limit anyway.

For some reason I am able to see my cards better with my Oakley's than with any other glasses. I didn't where glasses for a long time, due to the fact that I thought there was a better chance of me misreading my cards, than someone reading me. Now that I have the Oakley's I am able to see very well, and don't need to take them off. I do agree with Smash though in that I do look like a big giant fish, but that is ok, as long as I am collecting the chips.

I think Daniel said it in a short "Pro Tip" in Cardplayer once (or something like that). When you wear sunglasses you can give yourself a false sense of "hiding your tells", the problem is you give off more tells with your hands, breath, seat position, etc. You feel so confident in your glasses you think you are hidden. I don't wear glasses, never have, after reading Daniels tip. I paid very close attention and for the most part found it to be true, I pick up more tells on guys in glasses than anyone else.Someone said it above, glasses with a hat that says Fish in big red letters!Wearing glasses should not be about hiding "your" eyes from someone else but more so, that "they" don't know you are looking at them, trying to pick their tells! You want to be able to look at whoever for as long as you want, with glasses you can do this without them even knowing! More valuable than thinking you are going to hide something with glasses!Personally I love it when I look around my tournament table and see 4-5 pairs of glasses. Especially new ones. And if I look around my low limit table and see a few, I usually have to take a break to stop laughing, then come back and razz them for the rest of the night.

You guys seriously where shades at the low limit games? I don't even think the big game players where shades. Seriously... even if I didn't know a soul in the entire casino and knew that you would beat my ass, I would say "O god, look out, we have a serious player sitting at our table," as soon as you came over. That would help get everyone else going on you, too. It's silly to wear sunglasses at lower limits. No one cares what you're doing, they only care whether their cards are painted or not -- shit, half of them don't even care about that. Just play poker. The gimmicks are for TV time, which you won't be getting.

You guys seriously where shades at the low limit games? I wear sunglasses, a Red Sox hat, and a PokerStars hooded sweatshit.I also ask if I can fold when it's limped to my BB and show nut hands to the dealer asking if I win or not.

the only person absolutly amazed at the "serious" responses to this post? If you wanna wear sunglasses just get some. Also, for me the eyes are somewhere near the middle of the list of places to look for tells.

The guys that are reading anything from your eyes will just as easily see what they need elsewhere. Guys in sunglasses are usually really inexperienced. They have huge tells, and all the sunglasses do is make them look like bigger newbies.
