Yeah its just a rumor at this point, although lately the rumors have been gaining some credibility.
I think it's gonna happen as well. I just don't know how they're gonna make it work.

hey, thats awesome and all, but I ASKED YOU GUYS A QUESTION.
if you're going to be using it solely for school stuff+web, the biggest thing you have to watch out for is keyboard size, as the smaller ones will drive you nuts if you're not used to them and/or a skinny **** with thin fingers. pretty much any atom-processor-based netbook will be fine for your needs, power-wise, but there are a ton of tiny, obnoxious keyboards out there. i have heard that MSI models have better keyboards than most, but what i'd do is go into best buy or something, actually practice typing on the floor models, then come back here and tell us which ones you liked best and we'll find you a deal online.

very good advice about the keyboards. i hadnt considered that. i was looking on best buys website and noticed a difference in processors.some have an Intel® Atom™ processor N270.some have an Intel® Atom™ processor Z520.whats the difference?

this isn't a question per se... more of a bad beat story.I had a creative sound card in this desktop that has since died. so I switched over to the onboard sound with my motherboard. worked great for six months, but it's now occasionally spitting out a second or two of infuriating static. it actually once went into full-on tunnel-like interference, much the same as my other card was doing.I'm real pissed. I don't know if I'm going to buy another card or what. it's not like my speakers are special, but I feel like I'd be lighting $15-30 on fire buying a new sound card...sigh.

I'm pretty sure there isn't, but is there any way to back up your copy of microsoft office onto a disc if you don't have the original disc? my screen has gotten progressively worse to the point where the computer doesn't even have to be warm for the screen to be pretty damn messed up, and once it gets warm I can barely see what's going on on it. I thought about taking it somewhere to get it worked on but that would probably be 300 bucks or something, so why not buy a new computer. the only thing keeping me from getting a new one (other than not having $1,200) is that I just got Office put on here due to a wonderfully kind internet friend, and I'd hate to just turn around and lose it all over again (or to have to pay the ridiculous price for a real version).

on a related note, can somebody tell me the difference between these two (plus if they're good deals or not):http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2289http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2289I'm leaning towards the first one since it's more expensive and I like that, but is it really worth it?

Not sure about killing a pump station but I had the same trouble a month or so ago when I bought a new microsoft wireless mouse.I had to download a fix for it from the microsoft website now it works fine.Who would have thunk that a microsoft wireless mouse would have messed up the screensaver for microsoft Vista?
Thanks man, Don't have a wireless mouse though so I'll keep scanning this I guess

The expensive one has a slightly faster processor, and a better video card. If you plan to do anything graphics intensive, like gaming or editing porn, you'll want to avoid the built-in Intel graphics card on that cheap one. For just web browsing and looking at porn, you're ok with the cheap one.

You might look into imaging the whole drive with something like Ghost for Linux. There's always Open Office.

hmm, are those really the only differences? plus the expensive one has bluetooth and the cheap one doesn't. if so I might just go for the cheap. then maybe I'd just buy Office.

hmm, might look into this ghost thing. my computer still works (I just can't see anything very well. text is somewhat visible but pictures aren't at all); could I just hook up a transfer cable and do it some way like that?and I've tried open office but I didn't like it. thanks for the help though.

Do you have to have a laptop? I could work with you on building your own desktop and you would get twice the computer for several hundred dollars less.

sal, the most important thing to start with when looking for a new computer is getting together a good list of what exactly you need the thing to do. that way, you can find something that suits your needs without paying for overkill in any area. beyond stuff like microsoft office, what are you planning to use the thing for?in any case, i sincerely doubt that you'll need to go anywhere near 800 bucks for computers that are just as powerful as what you're looking at with those links.take a look at this list, for instance:http://dealnews.com/Weekend-Laptop-Roundup...ore/317736.html

I'll be replacing this laptop that I'm on right now due to the screen problems. I'm probably gonna take this one to a computer place or something after I get a new one though since it's still good other than the screen thing, and I'd imagine it's pretty minor. I just don't want to be without a computer (no cable, boredom sets in quick) and this one is damn near full and I don't really have anything I can delete, so why not spend a grand on a new one, you know?

well the main things I want are 4gb/500gb and a slightly smaller frame (16" looks ideal) and it looks like to get both of those I'm gonna have to get up to the 800 range. I tell you, the main thing I want though I don't think is even searchable, at least not that I've found: I want one with loud ass speakers. about 50% of my usage is as a damn stereo basically, and I don't think I've ever seen one that gets loud enough for my tastes. oh well.

It's fine if you desperately desire to spend at least $1000... but if you get a desktop, we could easily get you one with LOUD ASS speakers or at least an output to your stereo, a 28" 1080p monitor, 8gbs RAM, and a 1TB hard drive... for 1k.So my questions is: do you need a laptop? I mean, your house is only one room anyway (I'm assuming your bed is in the kitchen/living room)... how much mobility do you really need?

I would think with no roof he would need the option to move it at any given time easily and quickly.

there's not much point in answering Sal's questions when he asks for recomendations - he never listens and always just buys whatever he wants anyways.case in point: the broken laptop.

can I take the desktop to the bathroom? cause that's one of the main places I need it. (actually serious here. not about taking the desktop to the bathroom, but that I use my laptop there a lot. yes, for porn.)

not true at all. I take advice very seriously and listen very carefully everything everybody says. then do whatever I want.(also, dell sucks.)

You could mount a monitor on the wall and use a wireless mouse and keyboard, then run the cable for the monitor through the wall run the cable on the floor over to the stove/computer desk, and connect them to your CPU which would have a dual output video card.Or just buy the expensive laptop....

so is that a yay or a nay on the hp laptop I linked?looks like I should have reread your post from when I read it a few minutes ago. but anyways, I'm almost certain I'm gonna get the cheaper one, but can't quite pull the trigger. given I have absolutely zero desire in even owning a desktop, do you think that is a good one? I hate to go and buy another model of the company type that is currently messed up, but I don't really know of any other reliable options. (dell sucks).

I don't know much about computers compared to jon and jeff but I just bought a toshiba (shut up jeff) for $499 which is 2.xGHz, 4GB and 250HD. I know you want 500 but I think you could still find better laptops under $1K than an HP which sucks like Dell or at least all the HP's I have owned (2).http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1218093379440
