Live Play vs Online Play

Recommended Posts

there's a fair share of idiots online, they'll raise on a flush draw. For whatever reason, a lucky player online seems to keep their luck throughout. It's frustrating when you have the nut hand putting all your money in and he calls you on some draw. I've had my rockets taken down by 57 offsuit, his explanationg was he was feeling lucky. He raised and I pushed all-in and he calls me with 57 offsuit, *sigh. I prefere live play much more, it's much harder for a fish to hide himself live than it is online.

to say that you can use real strategy online is so untrue...you can try , but im most cases whatever you know about poker has to be somewhat forgotten in online play..live play is the true measure of a player..if you win an online tourney its pretty good, but if you win a live play tourney, its widly more respected...because most ppl do regard winning live as way more difficult than onlince...as far as getting outdran by gamblers in live play , sure it happens, but not with the frequency as it does online,,and like i said in my other post i know you see way more hands online...when ppl can click a button rather than make a real decision as to call your 500 chip raise, that makes it too easy to call..in general i dont give much thought to ppl that only play online..not saying that there arent great players online, i just dont call that real poker..

I can tell you that I am not playing on line poker anymore.I can't tell you how many times that I have flopped a Straight on the flop .. thinking I have the Nuts only to be beat by a flush ON THE RIVER.It seems the cards to not fall online like they do in live situations.I can't say that it's fixed.. but I have taken so many bad beats on the river it is insane... I have had my AA killed almost 8 out of 10 times.Do yourself a favor ... stay away from online.....Thanks!
i made three idiots move in pre-flop on me when i held AA IN ONE DAY and had them busted every time. once by Q-7, once by 3-3 and once by 10-8 suited... bad beats, i know, but oh well. i personally FAR prefer live games, especially playing tournaments. every time i start getting a feel for the players at my online table (in a multi table tourney) i get moved :?

It's all in your head. Of course your nut straights get beat fairly often "ON THE RIVER" that's what the math says they should do. If you've had more bad beats online than in live play, you haven't played enough live.

i have played thousands of hands in live play , and yes you do see more bad beats online due to the law of averages..you see way more hands online that vs. live play so therefoer you tend to have more bad beats..its that simple...maybe you havent seen enough hands in live play to understand that...

Another problem with online play: I was just in a tournament and I was going to fold if this guy bet into me, and I accidently clicked the 'call' button! Lost everything
OMG, I do this so often. Mainly because I am reading and posting on here instead of paying attention to my game.

I used to play online quite a bit, mixed with live play, but I recently decided to just drop online poker for the most part.I dunno about the outdraws. That just seem to happen. It may seem like more cause online you play more hands, but the thing I dislike the most about online play is not being able to look at your opponent. For me, online play has taken a big part out of the game, so I'm pretty much finished with it for the most part. I may put down little deposits here and there from time to time if I want to play in some tournaments or qualifiers some, but other than that I think live is the best bet at being a better poker player. However, playing multi tables online is a great way to make a solid hourly rate...or negative hourly rate. - Jordan
I see avoiding online play is working out for you :club:

Online players just are horrible players. Just play tighter online and you'll do just fine. Don't semi-bluff, or bluff at all for that matter. Against weak players straightforward poker is the way to play. Alot of players suffer from FPS they don't work like that online. You can't outplay opponents every single hand. They'll call you down with bottom pair. For those that haven't read Fischman's book, I suggest you read it.

Do you even play online?

People who whine about online play being rigged tend to be, rather unsurprisingly, those who lose money online. You can be a winning online player by playing very basic, textbook poker. Brutal outdraws and bankroll swings are to be expected in NLHE; people seem to overvalue the strength of their hands in Hold Em, not realising just how marginal the edges are statistically. However if you are to take up Omaha, as I have done, you'll find the greatest fish pools on the internet - you'll be getting paid off in multi-way pots where only one opponent isn't drawing dead...I tend to play ABC Poker online and more fancy Small Ball live...

I tend to like both. But it's easier for me to get up sign on and play immediately. I don't have to wait a few hours for a tournament to start. There are several tournament 24/7, bigger cash games, I live in FL. Live game cash games suck down here. The highest is 2/5 NL with 100 max buy in.

are you kidding me? just a couple months ago poker was 2 max bet limit. You couldn't even make any money with the old poker laws in cash games. It was reported that pots were as big as 100k in cash games at the hard rock casino in hollywood. So I hardly think that 2/5 is the max in all of florida.

I fukcing hate all of these people from 2004 bitching about online poker because there are too many bad players that call with horrible hands all the way to the river...especially since I didnt start playing until 2006, right before everything started drying up.**** YOU

Lol, well done. I was just going to come on and give a link to a cardplayer article, but your post was so mind numbingly retarded, I had to say thank you. My favorite part was the opening line about not being able to use "real strategy" and forgetting whatever you know about poker when playing on-line. I'm 100% certain that you lost more than a few buy-ins online, couldn't figure out how to beat the game, and then blamed it on "donkeys" getting lucky every time. http://www.cardplayer.com/magazine/article/16907
