I'd came acoss this site when i googled daniel negreanu, i signed up for the pokerstars site because they give chances for new players to participate in the freerolls. I'm a play money poker player atm and hope to earn my first bank roll from the tournament because im a student and i've no money, my country restrictons have some problems with me registering my debit cards on (singapore). Will i improve just by playing play money tables? The players do not value money at all there and go all in every round. After switching tables, again they'll appear. I'm relatively new to the game, playing for about 2 weeks. My best record was only a 4th in partpoker's multi table tourny. Will playing in play money tournaments help increase your skill? Or do you really have to play CASH games in order to meet people who value money? Somehow when i go into play money games, i always manage to get a net profit every time i leave the room. That made me feel good for sometime but i felt its getting no where. My local casino will also only be up by 2010 and u have to pay $100(SGD) approx. USD$7x JUST TO GET IN. I've been reading books on poker by various authors, but my country has no poker books for sale that i know of and the library is limited. Can i have some advice from the exp players?Partypoker/Pokerstars: CrucifyMyLuvp.s im taking part in the 0000 EMT tournament, in 30 mins time

It's hard to scale how good you are using play money chips because it is just play money chips. There are just some (most?) people who don't really care if they win or lose, so it's hard to distinguish those trying to learn and those who are just messing around. So the answer is 'no', play money tournaments probably won't increase your skill level as much as playing a regular cash game, even if it's micro limits.

I'll tell you right now, your outlook on poker is probably wrong, but that pretty much happens to most of us when we're new. It's going to be hard for you to understand this right now, but saying "you'd rather play people who value money" is probably not correct. In reality, you want to play the worst players possible. Those are generally those that don't value their money. As in, they're willing to call off with next to nothing, or bluff off with nothing.Like I said, it's going to be tough for a beginner to understand this, but if you hang around here, you'll figure it out in time. I know your feeling like you want to make moves and push people off hands, etc, but trying to do that just isn't the most profitable way to play.Anyways, I digress. I probably did a horrible job of explaining wtf I'm talking about, so if there are any questions, just ask. :DOh, and to answer your question, you will probably have a better time learning the game playing micro stakes, than you would playing play money, but play money isn't necessarily a waste of time, IMO.

When venturing into cyberspace to participate in virtual card games, an ace and a king of the suited variety combine to give an unbeatable hand.Translation: AK sooted is teh internuts.

if you're playing freerolls with thousands and thousands of people playing in them if might take you a while before you win one. and by while i mean like really really long time, even if you have an edge over the field. you might be banging your head up against a brick wall here and would be better off finding a way of depositing like $50 and playing the micros. if its tournaments you're interested in learning about read harrington on holdem vol I and vol II.

If you are not willing to deposit money on a site, everest poker is a nice one to try out. There you are able to play free sit and go's on single tables where first price is USD$0.05. It isn't that much but with winning that you can grade up to the 0.04$, $0.10 S&G to work your way up. You be able to play thes S&G during the first month. But if you aim to create a bankroll of $50 in that time which is very do able you'll have a nice start there. The level of play is very low there and with a simple TAG ABC poker you should be able to show a nice profit. Good luck.

It sucks that you don't have access to any books. Doyle Brunson's Supersystem 2 was available free to read online for awhile, maybe somebody still has the link. There are also many other great poker articles and discussions that you can find through this forum and others (like 2+2).

i've searched for every single article: read most and found 50% to be crapi've borrowed books from the library but available titles are sklansky on poker which made no sense for my hold em NL and anne duke's how i raise bluffed flirted xxx xxx and won millons. no use there too. but that are the only 2 books which were in the library related to poke. there's this big bookshop that im gonna try but im sure the lot wont come cheap. as for the suggestions abt tropical poker and fruit, i'll go try them asap :club: thanks for all the help.recently, i've been watching high stakes poker. is it good to learn from them? i mean, they are all pros there and i tend to find jamie gold's bluffs highly intersteding in season 3. also daniel alahi has been off-form in season 3, somehow.
