Random Hockey Observations

Recommended Posts

Dale, you mentioned in another thread, maybe get rid of the hitting from behind rule...Just random thought, but they sure as shit don't call HFB unless it's on the boards anyways. Guys get shoved from behind in open ice, in front of the net, etc a TON, and I can't remember ever seeing it called.
Yeah, someone on the hotstove mentioned it and I think it's worth considering. Players have a false sense of protection from the rule...why? I have no idea because players are still getting hit from behind. Maybe if the rule wasn't there then players wouldn't put themselves in a vulnerable position. The refs will always have the boarding rule (which nobody really understands) to fall back on if someone really gets out of hand. Another option is to paint a red line about 8-10 feet from the boards all the way around the ice. Any contact between the red line and the boards must be parallel to the boards. I'm not sure how this would work but it's something to think about.I find it funny that a player can't touch another player if they are racing for an icing play but it's perfectly okay if no icing is being called on the play. Both scenarios can have exactly the same outcome. I understand the differences in the plays but it's odd nonetheless. Also... I'm more than a little tired of players throwing their arms in the air when someone breaks their stick on a slash or shoots the puck over the glass. the refs know the rules and hopefully are watching the play. I would like to see this called as embellishment. It's just as ridiculous as diving.

how about the old " but look there is a spec of blood ya there is , look ref closely"I find this the stupidest rule...Just because I am bleeding doesnt mean the hit was worse if I wasnt bleeding...

Yes, very stupid. Apparently, you must be bleeding to be injured.P.S. Crosby should have been penalized for breaking his stick on Halak's goalpost.

Yeah, that's stupid too, because the rule is "injury" for the double minor.Although, it looked like in the Habs/Pens game that Cammalleri caught Goligoski and drew a tiny bit of blood, then the camera showed the ref up close and you could read his lips, something like "not enough" or "no way" or something.

they don't?I thought it was standard to go down to the ice covering your face with your gloves and rubbing really hard to draw blood. I also thought lip biting was common. To be fair, I've never played hockey but this type of badass-atide seems like something a hockey player would do.

uh oh. Do Serge and I actually agree on something?! That can't be good.Anyway, I also agree that the "checking from behind" penalty has little to no place in the NHL. It absolutely DOES have a place though in the rules of minor hockey, where even for a 2min minor penalty, it's an automatic game misconduct. The Cooke Adams hit could easily have been 5 for boarding or charging, it doesn't really matter.

You mean Adams?

I'm usually pretty sympathetic towards hits from behind where a guy turns...I don't think that's what happened here. Adams had plenty of time to see his back, and he clearly shoves him from behind when there were other options. He could've hit him differently, given him a lighter tap, anything. Shoving a guy from behind, that close to the boards, is dirty.
He could have used the move that EA added to NHL'10 where you just tie a guy up against the boards (triangle button on ps3 I think..lol). Cooke had one thing and one thing only on his mind and that was to plant him in to the boards. There's no place in hockey for hits like that imo, no matter what jersey the other guy is wearing.

Yeah...pretty much. He fell awkwardly but Adam's didn't really hit him from behind. Because MAB misplayed the puck he was forced to turn to his left before taking the hit. Adam's hit more of his left side than his back.adams.jpgadams2.jpgCrappy images for sure but you can see quite a bit of his number than you'd expect to see in a straight hit from behind like earlier this year with a hit that got Andy Sutton suspended.sutton.jpg
That looks like a whole bunch of Blurry porn pictures.

1. Smart man. All I do is do random searches throughout the day and get swagbucks and boom, I get $10 in amazon cards a month. I got another $10 coming the 17th and by then I will probably have enough to redeem another $5. 450 swagbucks for a $5 ecard. Yesterday I searched and got 47 swagbucks. 2. Glad I am not Canadian. What's the answer? 2?

It's basically a search engine. But each time you search you win swag bucks. They have a blog and twitter where sometimes they put up codes for swagbucks. I set up my firefox search to use swagbucks and just come into work each day put youtube in the search engine and throughout the day search youtube every once in awhile and boom, swagbucks. Already got 12, 6, 7, and 9 today. And they do give out amazon.ca ecards so they are canadian friendly.lol, went and searched again so I could get to swagbucks and take a screen shot to prove I actually do get $5 gift cards, and I won 11 swagbucks.Edit:swag.jpgSo you can see I get 2 $5 cards a month generally. They just put them there and you c&p the code and head to amazon and enter it and it fills up your gift card balance. They send out the cards every 1st and 16th of the month. So I have 967 swagbucks right now and will redeem two cards and they will be placed in my account May 16 or 17th. So it is on the up and up. I don't get any spam emails either. And I circled how I search each day.

There is suppose to be some pretty good players such as Guy Lafleur, Darryl Sittler, Paul Coffey, Gilbert Perrault, Borje Salming, Lanny McDonald, etc.
