My Weekend At The Mini-series + (long)

Recommended Posts

I had told Bob (FCPinfo) I would be playing several events in the mini-series at the Bike and would happily wear FCP stuff if he gave them to me. He responded by putting enough points in my FCP account to pick out a hat and shirt, which I did, because, as we all know by now, Bob is the best. My boss, unfortunately, didn't cooperate and has me working nights for a few weeks, so I couldn't play until the weekend. This is the story of a crazy weekend.I put on my new FCP hat and t-shirt and headed to the Bike on Saturday afternoon. I bought into the $340 LHE event around an hour ahead and looked around for something to do. Unfortunately, there were waiting lists for every game, and I didn't have the time to play much anyway, so I just stood around and watched a while and talked to a few people. About 20 minutes before tourney time, there was an open seat in a 6/12 HE game. I sat in for a short session with $160, was up a bit, then got AA cracked at the last minute, and left a $2 winner.I went to the tournament and found out that nobody showed up and I was almost at the final table (actually 79 people entered, quite a disappointment). I played well and got lucky early and built a good stack, but with 3 tables left, this started my downfall. I am in the SB, and everyone folded to the button, who raised. We both had good stacks, so I really didn't want to mess with him, but I had K9s, which was better than a lot of his hands in that spot, so I called. The BB, who was short-stacked came along, and we saw a flop of K55. I figured I was WA/WB, so I played passively, not wanting to lose anyone if I was ahead, and not wanting to lose a bunch if behind. I checked, BB bet, button called, and I called. Blank turn, BB goes all-in for less than a bet, and we both call. River blank, I check, button bet, I call, he shows me J5, nh. After that, I missed a big draw, which I played aggressively, giving me a short stack, they raised the blinds again, and I went out uneventfully with 22 in the BB, all-in against A9, who hit a 9 on the turn. I ended up a respectable 17th, but unfortunately they only paid 9.Actually, right before my BB, I got a call from a girl I hadn't seen for a long time. We have gone out quite a bit in the past, but lost touch with each other. She wanted to know what I was doing (meaning she probably needed money) and I told her I was about to bust out of this tourney and would call her back when I was out. It wasn't even 5 minutes. I picked her up and we went to a late dinner and talked about old times. As expected, she was looking for help with her rent and wanted to play some poker. We went to Commerce. She only had $100, so I gave her another $100 to play 4/8, while I played some 20/40. I was up around $600 when she checked up on me. She suggested I quit and we get a room there. Who am I to refuse that? I haven't stayed there before, since it is only a half hour ride home, but they have nice rooms and a $99 player rate. She had to leave early in the morning, so of course she bugged me for a few more bucks, we said our goodbyes, and I went back to sleep.I got up at "12:00", showered and checked out. Unfortunately, since none of this was planned, I didn't have any more clothes with me, but they were still fairly clean and I was supposed to be representing FCP anyway, so I wore my FCP shirt again. I got downstairs and joined a 20/40 game at 11:30 (WTF?) and told the table how the casino tricks you by setting the clocks wrong in the room so you get back to the game. I ended up losing around $400 and went back to the Bike for the tournament, $230 Omaha HL.I buy in for the tournament, and the machine doesn't like my money, but it evantually takes it and I am on my way. Surprisingly there were a lot more players than yesterday. It looked like around 200. Even more surprising was when the TD tapped me on the shoulder and asked if they could speak to me outside. The TD and the guy who collects the money told me that after the problem buying in, they checked my money at the cage and one of the bills was counterfeit. Since they already accepted it, they couldn't ask me to pay another $100, but they did have to fill out a form with my name and send it to Secret Service. Nice. The TD said they should have confiscated the money as evidence and not given me the entry (who gave them that right?), but they missed it, so I was OK, other than being reported. Now I am wondering about the rest of my money, but I can't have them check it without them taking any more bad bills without compensation.Anyway, I go back to the tournament, where I just can't get anything going. I split a few pots and scooped a decent one, but the blinds eventually ate me up and I was out fairly early.I waited to get into a 20/40 game there, and they started a new game, must-move into the main game. Not trusting my money, but having credit with the casino, I took a marker for $1000 so i could play. When I eventually got into the main game it was a crazy action game with a few really bad players. I was doing great until I got beat on the river on 3 consecutive hands by the same guy, a total maniac. You can only imagine what that cost. Back to back KK lost to trip 9s on the river both times for huge pots, one was 97 and the other J9, I believe, then I outflop him with JT suited, but he spikes a K on the river after chasing with nothing. I rebuild and eventaully leave at around 3 am ahead $1300, to finish off a nice weekend.I got home and went to bed, then got up and wrote this. I took today off work to get a long weekend with the holiday, so I will probably go back to the Bike, see if I can get on Live at the Bike for the first hour, then play the $550 NL tournament. Congratulations to anyone who actually made it this far in this post that got out of hand. I hope you enjoyed it. Look for my FCP hat on Live at the Bike tonight, assuming i can get in the game.Scott

Best part of the post IMO. There needs to be more posts with interludes featuring women needing money then suggesting 'getting a room'. How much did you 'loan' her in addition to the $100 you gave her at the tables?

Sorry, can't make it. Too much work and other stuff going on. If you decide to come down here, I have an extra room at my place, and I always have room for a teammate.
Good read, keep us updated, maybe start a blog or something
No time for that, but I'll post in the forum whenever I have something interesting to say.
where did you get the funny money from?
Who knows? I play often at Commerce and occasionally at other places. I'm guessing they check their money before giving it out, but people often play with cash and I might have won a pot with the bad bill in it. That is the most likely scenario, and probably how I will spend the rest of the suspect money.

No comment. As it is, I would be a dead man if she had any idea this was posted in here.

Why? Is she sensitive about being a prostitute?
I pay my fiance's rent. does that make her a prostitute? Almost all women who are with a wealthier man get money for sex in a way....

Note the difference between a fiance and a miscelaneous ex girlfriend who asks for money then gives out sex.

No biggie. When you play fairly high, you stop really caring about (relatively) small amounts of money anyway, so if you can help out a friend and get some *** at the same time, I say go for it. If there wasn't the aspect of helping out a friend involved, I doubt this guy would have been paying for sex.
