I'm going to be buying some poker books, but I'm on a tight budget. Which books should I buy. Just for your info, I already have Harrington on Holdem 1&2, Super System 2, Theory of Poker, Small Stakes Holdem and Holdem Poker by Sklansky. Here's the list of books that I'm considering.1. Ace on the River (Greenstein)2. Harrington on Holdem 3 (Dan Harrington)3. Kill Phil (Lee Nelson and Blair Rodman)4. Tournament Poker for Advanced Players (Sklansky)5. No Limit Holdem: Theory and Practice (Sklansky and Miller)I think I can afford to buy 3 of them. I mainly play SNGs online and live limit Holdem, so out of the 5, I think the Sklansky and Miller book would be the least relevant to me since I almost never play NL cash games, save for the occasional 25c/50c home games.I would appreciate any input regarding the above books or any others that you guys think are good.

I would probably get the new 2+2 NL book. Ace on the river is another good read, not much strategy though.Do NOT get Kill Phil, it's terrible.

I haven't read any of these so take this with a grain of salt.Ace on the River is about the non-poker strat aspects of being a pro. Unless you're considering going pro I don't see it as applicable though its said to be a good read.Kill Phil is about a strategy to counter excellent players in high buy-in tournaments. Doesn't seem applicable.Ditto TPfAP.The Sklansky/Miller NL book is about cash games and if you don't plan on playing cash games I don't see how it's applicable.

I already have HOH 1 & 2. For those of you who have read any of the books on the list, are there any interesting concepts that you found in the books? Or a different way of looking at common situations? For example, in HOH 1, I learnt how you can use your favorable position on a raise and call to execute a squeeze play.

it really depends on your skill level, i think.if you like playing in tournaments but aren't very successful, i'd probably go with HOH, but if you're already a successful player that wants to take the next leap, i really think barry's book is unique for that sort of help.

For tournament player Harrington's book if not get Sklansky's.

isnt HOH3 a work-book fro HOH1 and 2?
About half of HOH 1 and 2 were problems. If you liked these go for 3 as I expect it to be like those.I´m getting it

I´m reading Phil right now and am enjoying it.There will be players following this and if you don´t know where they are coming from you will have a problem.

just read theresas blog then TP/MM :club:
Who is Theresa? Also, it might help you guys advise me if I state that my goal is to be playing the $55 or $77 SNG (4-tabling) by the end of summer. I'm currently having a 40% ROI after 400 $22 SNGs on PartyPoker. I also intend to start playing the big $100+ NL tournaments online regularly by the end of summer.

let me tell you a little about my self.i have been playing B&M poker since 97 where i started in the roving casino's in k&W ont. the same place gavin smith got his start.i then moved to vegas in late 2000 and made a livng AND added to my bankroll by playing day in and day out for over 18 months until i moved back to canada where i taught snowboarding in whistler b.c for 2 years.i then lived in london england for 9 months and playedthere full time.i now live in Melbourne Aus and 28.3% of my income is from poker.now lets talk about SNG's and torney's life time, i am a loser- a real donkey.i have read and re read harrington's books and find them very enjoyable to read, how ever its not allways suitable play.i have read and reread Kill phil and let me say that not everything in the book is going to suit you in fact i hope you mix and match it to your own style and come up with a different kind of style of your own.this week with the kill phil tips i have only lost one heads up sit and go and i ended up winning the rematch .i also won 6 heads up SNG's 10$ limit and won 4 ~5$ 6 seat sit n go tables torney's and placed 2nd in the other one.the turn around is amazing . this book has been a breath of fresh air to my old dried up game.if you dont buy this book ~PLEASE sit and play me heads up can i also ask why would you want to to buy another harrington book ~ was 2 not enough for you ???do you not realize just about everyone has read harrington.try reading something else.open your mind
