So Tomorrow Is The Big Vote On Online Poker?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if you saw the two guys arguing about online gambling on CNBC today, but the guys main point who's against it was that grandma was spending her social security check gambling online and the government would end up spending money to rehabilitate g-ma and all the rest of the degenerate gamblers. Memo to Sparky: Grandma is already spending her social security check on gambling 4 nights a week IT'S CALLED BINGO,,,No wonder this country is in debt up to its eyeballs,,the politicians have a windfall right at their feet and the best course of action is to stop online gambling,,,fantastic,,,I'm sure if you walked into your local mini mart and tossed $1000 on the counter and said to the clerk that you wanted $1000 in scratch off tickets that he'd say "ok but let me call my congressman and your mother first to see if it's ok",,The problem here is, the idea of online poker wasn't started in the USA so since the government realizes that they will have a hard time getting their greedy little hands in the vault they figure the best thing to do is to stop it. Truly pathetic. But with this administration nothing surprises me especially when they think it's a great idea to let our boys get killed in Iraq so someone who hates america can vote is a better idea than placing our troops on the border to protect the citizens of this country,,,And another thing, if the government was so concerned about what a person/child/young adult is allowed to do or view on the internet, they shoulda put a stop to 95% of the crap that you can look up on there now.

Unfortunately, the government is representative of its citizens.
Canadian, I assume...STFU.Government is representative of the greed and power hungry who will spend millions of dollars to get elected to a position that only pays $200,000 a year.Something these idiots are forgetting is why we had the Revolution...it was to get away from the government/King controlling every aspect of our lives. It may be time for another Revolution. The U.S. can spend billions of dollars for a grudge match that Bush started to get payback for his father and he can give away billions more to illegal aliens by giving them social security benefits and amnesty and still let them send the money they earned here in the U.S. back to their country to fund their economy, but for the American workers...tough luck !!I think I would rather be a redcoat now...they are at least smart enough to realize the dollar, pound, euro (whatever the fuk it is now) potential for their economy, while we have fatcat politicians acting like our parents.Discuss.

Online gambling is already illegal. What are they gonna do, make it more illegal? Laws against it seem unenforcable. What exactly are they voting on. Can someone post a link to a story or something?

even though i am canadian banning internet poker in the usa scares me. theoretically if the ban goes through could the government walk in on day 1 of the wsop me and arrest all online qualifiers? not likely but it could happen. my guss is somewhere around 75% of online players are americans if you take that away most of the sites would prbally die off. sure most of the big winners are americans but also alot of the dead money is american too. i dont want to play online poker against only european players. dont let this pass please. i dont understand how you could walk in to a casino anywhere in the us and lose your life savings but you cant play online poker where most sites cap how much you can deposit in a month. go chase child porn producers and viewers which is the fastest growing internet money maker and leave my hobby alone.

As I understand it the bill is still in the house judiciary committee. It would have to pass the vote in committee then be voted on by the full house, then the senate, then signed by the pres to be law. Tommorrow is not d-day as they say

what a waste of time...unpopular war....fn gas at three bucks a a gallon...and they are worried that my $100 buy in to online poker is going to cripple me.Don't they have other things to worry about. It's probably the state run lottery and land casinos that are putting the $$$$$ behind the bill. Look for any change in gambling laws that have an impact on the state to be watched closely by the freaking lottery.I live in cincy, the locals voted down a downtown casino ten plus years ago. The biggest financial backer to attack it was the state lottery. So, the good people of Indiana voted for gambling and I have to drive thirty minutes in a different direction. All those tax dollars going out of state........end result. The $#$# town in Indiana looks like Utopia, new businesses, new school, great roads........and Cincy is trying to get a downtown slot parlor. The local casino is trying to kill it and so is the state lottery.....I'm sure it won't pass.

Not according to this link and others I've seenhttp://www.pokernews.com/news/2006/5/house...te-tomorrow.htmWhat is your source?
May 19, 2006Mr. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXDear Mr. XXXXXX:Thank you for contacting me about legislation on Internet gambling. I appreciate your taking the time to share your views.H.R. 4777, the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, revises the current federal law against interstate gambling. It is intended to clarify that the current prohibitions apply to the Internet and other new technologies. According to the bill's sponsors, the legislation responds to a growing problem of illegal off-shore gambling as well as illegal gambling that crosses state lines over phone lines and Internet technologies. I appreciate hearing your views about the potential negative consequences of the bill. The bill has 144 cosponsors, and has been approved by a House Judiciary Subcommittee. It next goes to the full Judiciary Committee. If it reaches the House floor, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind. Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope you will continue to do so on issues of importance to you.Sincerely,Tom AllenMember of Congress

Online Poker is illegal in Canada too, and contrary to the many posts I see on here, if you are making a living playing poker then it is also taxable.
