digitalmonkey 929
Ever since I started playing, I had ups and downs. Some very big ups but then in return a down 2-3x what I gained. I've lost it all. I've been trying to play limits I can not afford to play to try to regain back some of what I have lost. After losing like this 3 times in less than 3 months, I'm finally going to stop. As silly as it sounds, I haven't learned from the first time, but the third time. ANY help or advice would be greatly appreciated. You have a gambling problem! Your asking for help is the first step to recovery. Good luck!

looshle 6
Stop using your college tuition to play. Doesn't mean you have to stop playing. I find it extremely funny that if a person plays all day long and loses, he has a gambling problem, but if he wins, he's a poker player.Save up an amount you can put into a website. Stick to limit poker, avoid NL cash games. Do what Smash is doing and put $50 in and work your way up. Follow his advice and don't start playing until you have a firm grasp or what good and bad plays are.Buy a couple books on low limit holdem. Work your way up playing within your bankroll and after a good amount of time you can earn some good money @ it.Don't play pissed off or upset. Don't try to win all the money you've lose by playing bad hands. That money's gone, don't think of it as yours anymore. After a long time of decent, by the book play you will earn back the money you've lost plus more. I pay for my college with poker, as well as every other bill that I have. Car insurance, cell phone, typical bills for a college kid. If you put the time and dedication in, you can make some decent money as long as you play within your bankroll.
Royal_Tour 0
If you've had a net loss over your entire poker "career" you're probably a losing player. On behalf of everyone on this forum, i whole heartedly encourage you to take out a loan and continue playing for as much as you can get a line of credit for.Give me a break, man...the guy has a gambling problem and you're making a huge joke out of it.I think you'll find that not many people are gonna laugh with you on this one.Except for the other losers that like to kick people when they're down, that is.No.. I'd have to agree that this is funny. Baaahahahah.. I think someone watched too much rounders and tried turning their tuition money into a big profit., ,lesson learned.. dont use money you dont have.,Maybe try playing local games, and low low limits.,, if you cant win those.., what made you think you could win big stakes? Abbaddabba 0
For the quiz, i answered yes to 3 or 4 of the questions. I guess im less of an addict than i thought.
TJ_Eckleburg 0
I think the methodology of the questions is incorrect. I think you need to look to see if you have any SYMPTOMS of problem gambling (i.e. being broke) before you ask yourself the 20 questions, rather than just asking the questions to anyone that plays. I wonder how many questions Smash would honestly answer yes to.
elkang 0
Wow... I should have expected this. Let me suggest taking any other hobby or activity and use that instead of "gambling" here, and you will see the principle sought after. The Alcoholics test is similar too. A test like this is a good diagnostic, but seriously, your friends and people with good judgement are your best guide here.also, one can be a professional gambler... if you are then you pretty much should answer yes to a lot of these or you really don't like your "job". blueodum 0
I think there is a difference between a poker addict and a gambling addict.Poker played by skilled players in a rational way isn't gambling. As long as you don't get over your head and/or play above your bankroll you will make money over the long term.So a poker addict would be someone who can at least break even at poker, but plays so much poker that it starts to interfere with other aspects of his life (family, work, physical activity etc).A gambling addict is someone who loves the rush of risking money that he/she can't really afford to lose. Usually they choose games that they are destined to lose at in the long run (e.g. slot machines). Those that choose poker are usually bad players.
obs 0
I absolutely cannot stand gambling. I've been to the local casino a few times, been GIVEN $20 to play slots (no poker tables...), and I just couldn't spend it. I just ended up giving it back at the end of the night. I cannot stand any of the other games either like roulette, craps, and even blackjack. I have also never purchased a lottery ticket nor bet on the dog races when I went. That said, I enjoy poker immensely. I believe there is a strong difference between gambling and playing poker for some people. It's not a black and white distinction of course. However, it is fairly obvious the OP needs some help. 21gambit 0
Have you had a losing session?if you answer no, you are full of shit.if you answer yes, then poker is gambling because you are never certain to win.
Smasharoo 0
if you answer yes, then poker is gambling because you are never certain to win.Slot machines are gambling for the people who own them, too, but they build Vegas with the proceeds....
whirleymob 0
i think that most of you guys would agree that poker is a skill game with a fairly large element of luck. that said poker IS gambling, but the skill factor allows you to gamble with the odds in your favor. JustinHEMI04 0
I find it funny that this guy makes one post and that post has caused a stir. Now it has become an arguement over whether or not poker is gambling. HAHAHA I say again, I smell a troll.Justin
MarionSauce 0
I amfortunate enough thatmy parents financially support my extremely expensive tuition, and I don't know if any of my rather immature advice will be feasible or even coherent for you, butI am in co-op right now and some of us nerds make up to $5500 US/ month (obviously not me), its a great way to pay the billsStart having keggars, you make SO much money!! Upper Canada's kegs are the cheapest and they deliver and pick up! And of course, drink Lucky Lager.

SimonLIU 0
Hey, I've had my fair share of ups and downs. The 2 occasions where I lost the most, was also the 2 occasions where I won the most. I played 5/10 and then 10/20 limit. Won 2k, down 5k, not a good return, and this happened twice within a month, as for tuition, I have that covered now. I saw a comment where someone said to get a job, I have one. I'm financially stable, but I just don't understand the big fluctuations. I've been playing some low NL 1/2 recently, and I would get beat with the most outrageous hands. Aces hardly win anymore, Kings can not hold up. As for the gambling problem, I think I have one, but I'm also able to control my self better now. Basically, it's the bad beats that get to me, and also playing limits that I can not afford. I can't stand low stakes limit because alot of people just call to the end, call till they die. Also as of now I'm playing some 1/2 NL, 50 dollars has become 300.
