disturbed by daniel's blog today

Recommended Posts

My only regret.... "I" Wasn't there. I sure wish I could have been, if I had even heard rumor of this I would have caught the first flight out there hoping he was still there when I got to Vegas! Daniel knows I got a little bit of gamble in me :-) And $15k to play with, And I would have loved the opportunity to sit at any live table with him and his money. Sure is a better opportunity than risking $500k for the same chance.Lighten up dude, or change tables!Yours Truly, PokerLoser

I would post on this in a serious manner.  First for poker playing to be of any value it has to  logical, and this mentioned great player is only proving this; because alass he is lossing and to be lossing you would tend to go on a kind of tilted emotional reaction.  Just as the author above was steamed about no money, as for the Wynn that is no poor mans haven and the limits ther only reflect the public skill average not the neededs of the players.  I play in agame that has 1,2,2,4 blinds and only a 100d buyin but millionaires play in it also, they know how bad they are.  Also casinos I have learned shun the NoLimit play because thier rake is lower, players bust and never return.  It could have been positive; how many players at that table even recognized him? I think what you are saying holds very true for the general populus of playing people but you should know that the big time pros like Daniel have to "think outside the box" to solve the much more weighty problems of the WPT or 10,000 dollar buyins, no doubt also you overplus his finacial postion, his accounts show him down at times, and could you honestly wager thata player with those antics is stable maybe he will retire and sell real estate?
man....i don't know what the fuck you just said...but you're special...you reached outand you touched a brotha's heart

I haven't read any of the responses. I assume flaming the OP has been covered. All I want to say is that I would love to be in a game where:1. I would get to play with DN.2. DN would be mad aggressive.3. I would get to play with DN.

Bullsh-t I say. I'm a big fan of daniel but I can't see this as more than mere flaunting of his recent success. I don't see how what Daniel was doing would give him any strategic preparation in lieu of his next WPT tournament. And it doesn't take a genius to figure out that when you cash in for $125K at a table where the the average stack is a few thousand, you have gained a competitive advantage that Daniel used to win more than a few pots.I wouldn't be surprised if the guys Daniel says he busted were put off and quietly steaming at having to eat crow at the expense of Daniel having some fun with the enormous money he's won at previous tournaments.

I haven't read every post in this topic, so I'm not sure if this question has been asked yet. What's the difference between Daniel doing what he did, and him doing the same thing but buying in for like $2000?Would you still be busting his chops if he bought in for the same amount as everyone else and was still raising all-in and pushing hard every single hand? The only difference between what he did and what every other loose agressive player does is that he bought in for a ton more than everyone else. If the people are playing scared, it doesn't matter how much he has or how much he's betting.Think about it.

Okay I have a triple layer flame retardant suit on, as I fully expect about 4,000 degree flames coming my way.I of course like most of you have not met Daniel and would certainly like to at some point. I like his style most of the time and enjoy watching him play on TV.Having said all of that I really was not happy to read his entry today about his amusing antics at the $5.00-$10.00 table beating the hell out of the little guy.I think Daniel needs to reflect back to when he was a new and or less financially secure player and how he would have felt if a very wealthy pro sat down at his $5-10 table and started betting tens of thousands of dollars.I think sitting at that table and playing any cards, or not looking at cards, to show off just because you have so much money that you can lose $100 or $500 or $3,000 and it has no effect on your life and well being, but prevents other players at the table from playing because they can't keep up financially is predatory and is unbecoming of a seasoned pro like Daniel.Yes, I know Poker by its very nature is predatory! However this is clearly a horribly unbalanced situation, and other than to humiliate the little guy, I just don't see how this benefits Daniel, other professionals, The Wynn casino or poker in general. It's not like winning a couple of grand will affect Daniel's life much, but it sure as hell would affect me for example if I had a strong hand but Daniel kept betting $10k and I had to keep folding and ended up losing $2-3k.I can tell you that when I played at the USPC it was a huge honor and thrill to play among some of the best and the brightest poker players in the world, and I was impressed by most of them. There was one pro who I thought was very nasty but most of them were very gracious polite and accommodating.Chris Ferguson was a true gentleman, John Juanda also. Even Mike Matasow was very nice each time I spoke with him. The point is that I came away with a greater respect for these players, however if I had seen or heard that they were sitting down at what by their standards are ridiculously low levels and were doing what Daniel did, I would change my opinion of them in a hurry. Please understand that I have no issue with you dropping down in limits, and in fact I think it would be tremendous for the game of poker if you and your peers would do so from time to time to encourage people to play. However if you step down then your game should still remain the same, and you shouldn't club people over the head because they are defenseless. Also as an ambassador for the Wynn, I would think that this is not the way you would want to conduct yourself.Daniel, I enjoy watching you and hope that you will take this to heart and think about it before responding, if you do respond, and I hope you do.Okay I am done, begin the flaming!
I spend more time looking for people who play carefree than i do playing poker! You can beat them with very basic poker concepts!

Mind you I am not apologizing for having an opinion, however I think I made it very clear that:1. I do like watching you on tv and largely respect you.snippedmajorleag
Thanks so much for that, I genuinely appreciate it. I realize you didn't mean to cause any harm or hurt my feelings. It's just that I take great pride in making the game fun for the players at the table. Making light of myself, poking fun at myself, and doing what I can to make it a rememberable experience for all. When I read the forum and saw that some people took it the wrong way, I was like, "I just can't win!" I felt like the readers would appreciate the goofy stories and the fun environment. Never, did I do what I did, or write what I wrote to brag in anyway. How's this dude, I guarantee you that if I played with you that I'd MAKE you have a good time... oh and the money will fly, booooy will it fly!

Hey Dan,You summed up the whole thing when you said that if you wanted the players to have a bad time, you would play your best and crush it. Obviously you are not raising to 10k so u can steal the 25$ in the pot. I would have had a great time playing with you, and if u sucked out on my top set, well by gosh i'd buy in again and enjoy every minute of it.Don't sweat that you get grief every time you say anything remotely out of the ordinary in your blog, people get on a soapbox at the drop of a hat on the net. Keep up the entertaining posts, and i'll see you at game 1 of the Stanley Cup :club:

"If you think that you can sit around all day..." -the op (pg. 3 or4)You mean like you've been doing all day here? One thing I know from reading the first three pages of this thread is that it is very -EV. It must have cost me a hundred dollars in my time alone (with this response another$7.50 :-) ). I can only imagine the combined profit we missed out on while engaged here today.I do agree with the op, if he's still involved in this thread or forum, in so much as on first reading of the blog entry the tone was a little off putting. However, having followed Daniel's career for almost four years now, and having read many of your responses, I can only conclude that you really don't know that much about him. In fact, with all due respect, and I mean that, I have to question your overall knowledge of poker, NLHE, B&M play, and the realities of being a professional poker player, other than what you have may have seen on TV, and read or heard online and elsewhere. I think you're seeing this whole thing through the filter of your limited experience and are making some bad/false assumptions about everything from Daniel's play and motives in general to the reactions of the others at the table. As I said, his tone came off to me as being a little odd, but you're reading way too much into a lighthearted game of 5-10 NL. Even if playing at this level is something YOU feel should be undertaken with the utmost seriousness, to most 5-10 is quite close to the bottom of the B&M ladder and everyone will not be playing the game in the same or a certain way anyhow. Especially not the way you sound like you feel it should be played. That's poker. And that's life as well, so get used to it.Red

I wish I had the chance to sit in that game. It would have been a hell of a lot of fun. Who complains about people who pay off big hands? Did I just fall into the twilight zone? And for those who disagree about it being good training, guess again. Every online site on the planet is giving away seats to every major tournament. Daniel is going to run into more and more people like the group he played with last night. The more experience he gets against people like the wannabees who post at this site the better.

daniel is a pimp at the poker tables. I would sit with him any time, any day since it would always be fun
i wonder what'd happen if you sat down with him at the wynn...would he strip your abilities there?"remove your hat, no card cover...and you can't checkraise. have a good day"

What I don't understand is why the max buy in at a fairly low limit basis isn't in the neighborhood of 10 000, not the 125 000 which DN sat down with. It is a little unfair to the players if someone can come along and sit down with a virtually unlimited buy-in. If I was a player at that table, I would probably get up shortly after DN sat down with his money and went nut-bar. I'd probably prefer it if the casinos had a blanket max buy-in that was a reasonable fixed multiple of the big blind.

I can assure you that if I had the kind of money he has I would NOT go to a $5-10 table and start playing as he has..
majorleag, this statement confirms that you are an idiot. why the heck wouldn't you go to that table? if you think you can pick up a few thousand then that is what you do. that is what poker players do -- they make money playing poker.show me the rule that says he can only play a $500/$1000 NL game.show me!

Majorleague you have every right to voice whatever opinion you choose. Daniel is a big boy and can take what you said as your opinion. He puts his business out there in such a public way that he knows critiques will follow. I find it alarming that the really rabid fans get so very upset by the slightest negative comments about Daniel. Daniel doesn't seem to get that upset so I am not sure why they take such a personal stake in the matter. Daniel you show over and over how fun your life is and I for one am thankful that you continue to share these kind of stories with your fans. Id like to know how you feel when people react so harshly to people who has negative comments about you. Id bet you wish they would keep all the name calling and childish commentary to themselves.

No offense, and you aren't the first person to say something like this, but there is NO ADVANTAGE to buying in for more. There is NOTHING unfair about it. Do you really think, that if you bought in for $200 and I bet $100,000 every hand that I would have an ADVANTAGE over you? Nope. In fact, if I were to do that it would give you the biggest earn you could possibly ask for.

If it's table stakes, I don't care one iota what the size of the raises are, because I wouldn't have enough money on the table to lose $75K in one hand. If you're disturbed by someone putting in gigantic raises, you're playing too high for your bankroll and you shouldn't have sat down in the first place.
I am not sure if U mean the blinds or the average roll someone has on the table.IF you mean the blinds U are 100% incorrect. At the Wynn they have a $1-$3NL game with No Max Buy-in and I sat down with more than 3,000X the BB just in case; but wan't betting like a madman. I saw a few players with more than that when I was waiting for a table.IF you mean the raises themselves that makes more sense but U still should not expect to see a $2K raise into a $200 pot in $1-$3NL. But I do agree that if U are paying attention and see monster 10-25X the pot raises and such and U don't like it? Get up.There are so many posts on this thread I will post my replies in order as I read. :wink:EDIT : I am not referring to DN in anyway just a reply to the quoted post. I personally don't see an issue with how he played.
