He says the world series has lost its flair. Why because he is not doing well? I don't hear any other player complaing except Daniel. He is a bad loser and after a year of drawign card after card after card. It is about time that the odds caught up with him. Bah humbug! We will miss you at those events that you are not at you sore loser.

I'm going to have to slightly agree with the fact that DN seems to be a bit of a sore loser when it comes down to this year's WSOP. I believe he's not 100% focused on the game and a lot of his attention is placed on his business ventures. Although one could argue against this and mention all of his tournament winnings at the WPT this year. I highly doubt he'll win a bracelet this year or even place at a final table the way things have been running.

I don't think that is how he was trying to come off, but he sounded like he was really disturbed about some of his recent losses. Come on though, even a pro needs a place to vent frustrations.

As I posted just before, toogood's posts are generally of this type. He is a troll on these forums. IMO he should have been warned and banned before. Ignore him or whatever... let him waste your time. Oh and he'll call you all DN lovers or something too. What happened to civility and reason? All this anonymous flame stuff does not make for a good community.

wow. a poker player who is upset cause they don't win?Isn't that what happens when you have a fighting spirit? I hear countless people on here complain when they lose, so I guess DN isn't the only one. What is he supposed to say?The absolute truth is that lack of success is always going to make someone not enjoy playing for awhile. You need to stop, regroup, start booking some wins (or good results) and ride out the bad runs. That's life as a poker player. DN isn't different from anyone else.

if you did ANY type of research at all you would find that this statement is entirely false. The most recent documentation that you're wrong? Alan Boston's interview for cardplayer.

While toogood could use some tact, I understand the jist of what he is saying. Daniel wrote about the amount of people and how the world series isn't the same anymore. I don't think he was saying that last year when there were a record amount of people, but he was the player of the year. It's ok to be frustrated at losing, everyone is like that. But to downplay the importance of the event is being a sore loser. Even though hellmuth still hasn't won a bracelet, he still talks about the world series being the mother of all events.

He is always respectful at the tables, unlike a ton of guys out there. What is worng with taking some time off? I'd rather DN post on HIS OWN BLOG his reasoning behind dropping a few events, then see him on TV bitching about some beat he just took.

well, as DN said on the poker show, there's just too many events.. i imagine it's harder to get up for all the smaller buy ins, and still give it 100%.. personally, i can play a bunch of smaller buy-in NL tournys, and not care and not win also. but if i take a week in b/w tournys and only play one of the majors online, i usually do pretty good.. DN's just waiting for the main event where he'll bring his A game ..

At least DN has the ball's to vent his frustrations and be honest, unlike the typical answer "The cards are just not coming for me?". I applaud his honesty, it is refreshing!

I have no problem with Daniel picking and choosing what events he plays in. So what he hasn't cashed and wants to take a break. I am sure it is a much needed break, maybe an attempt to stop the slump he is in.As for the WSOP losing its flair, I am sure it has lost something to him. In the last few years, it has grown to unbelievalbe standards. That means alot of new money and more chances to win. In accomodating all the players, Harrah's has moved the game to a much bigger place. This has, IMO, taken away from some of the history of the WSOP. I know the final 2 days will be at the Horseshoe. There was a time when it was the GREATEST POKER PLAYERS in the WORLD winning this event. You could walk in and see the champions potraits on the wall. Now, if they cash, they are lucky. Luck plays a much bigger part then skill in the big tournaments. Once they get through all the riff-raff, then they can play their game. Too many novices taking a chance to make millions. The pros would tear them a new one if it were a cash game. But all the novices and dead money can lose is $10,000, and that is what they came to spend.I like that Ivey isn't playing the small tournaments, just the ones with the big buy-ins and rebuys. That gives him a much better chance at winning and showing his skill, instead of some two-outer beating him...Daniel or any other pro wants to take a break, let him. All of us at one time or another have had a slump or spell were what we did for a living or very well was going bad for us. I know I have, and I had to take a break from what I was doing. I don't know if it got me from second-guessing myself or I was refreshed and ready to go. Best of luck Daniel, you are STILL one of the best in the world...

I understand Daniel's frustration, even though the number of low buy-ins are the same as last year and the average buy in, is actually higher this year. However, a lot of a pros are venting some frustration. I mean every tournament there is 700, 900 or 1000 or even 2000 people! It gets to be a drag and frustration sets in. From the perspective of someone who played a few events in the WSOP in 1992,1994, 1996 and was there for others for business interests including 2004 (won't be able to play this year)...IMO the enviroment isn't the same. I was there with the zoo like atmosphere last year. I don't know how to put it, it isn't as "nostalgic", being way too commercialized. And considering it isn't at the Horshoe this year, it probably has gotten worse. And...http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...ic.php?t=16744&

Come on everybody......how about a little common sense........DN was correct in describing the fact that the WSOP in vegas right now has truly become somewhat of a circus........ there are so many entries that there will be a huge difference in the results of some of these tourneys and honestly it has to be hard for some of the popular stars to get motivated for all the events.........expect to see many unknown names showing up.......and don't assume that these unknown people are just lucky........poker is a game that is easliy mastered by many........but at the same time the people that are the best, are scattered all over the world........The WSOP in Vegas gives some of these unknown players an opportunity to showcase their skills........applaude the winners, and show respect for the rest........if your jealous, get some cash and grow some balls, then show up there and make a name for yourself. I hope DN gets a brief rest and recharge.......all that is left is to catch some cards and he will show his stuff........with so many entries some unknown players will get "lucky" and make a final table or 2......i say congrats to every player that makes a payout .....wish i was there..

I have never played in or been to the WSOP, but I agree with DN that the stakes should rise as the popularity grows. It has been $10,000 for the main event ever since the first one. Here we are in the 21 century $10,000 is worth a lot less than it was back then. I think it should be a higher stakes tournament; it should be the highest stake game of the year. Most of the pros play in cash games where the chips are worth as much as the main events buy-in. It was not like that five years ago. They need to get the gamble back into it. Make it a pro-dominated event, where amateurs (who are willing to front the cash) can have a chance at playing against these great pros, not the other way around. It needs to be like $100,000+ for the main event and $10,000 for the smaller ones.

Threads like this piss me off, I'll be brief and civil:1. The WSOP is being held in a place famous for their ariel Carnival show! Jebus dudes, DN is absolutely right, it's looks like a circus because it IS a circus. At least the finals will be back at Binions.2. I don't see how you can draw sportsmanship into needing a break. He didn't throw his chips across the table and shout obsenities... Maybe you need a break.I'm done.Cheers. :clubs2: :hearts7:

The WSOP only started out as a gimmick. It just happened to work out better, for a while. Don't be so surprised. Some casino needs to have the Grandmaster of Poker Open or something like that, have a buy in so high that only really top players or players good enough to sell parts of the action can get something going. I was at the RIO last Friday. It was crazy, over 1000 buyins for the day's event. Just crazy. But that's good for the game too. There's room for both.

Between stacked, the new engagement, $500k HU matches, interviews, WSOP along with a couple more interviews, he's got a lot on his mind right now.Everything just came down all at once - he'll be back on top in no time he just has to clear his head after July.
