do you guys "hit and run" online?

Recommended Posts

I like to leave a table after hitting a set amount of profit, so that in case I get called all in and lose I don't waste hours of work. Do you guys do this? Do you guys prefer to play it safe by taking out your winnings or to leave it in play on the table so you can potentially win a bigger pot?

you should stick it out--if you think you're good enough to beat the table, there's no point in leaving--you'll make more money :club:

I just thought to post this because I was on a big rush and then lost a couple hr's work when I went all in with the nuts and got drawn out on the river. I was kicking myself for not following my own rule just cause it was a fishy table and I got greedy.

i dont play "until i hit a set amount" ..i play for a set amount of time ..win lose or draw...seems you play "not to lose " rather than to win...

What I am saying is that I leave the table after I am up a large amount, then come back with only the standard buy in so I'm not risking all my profit. How is this not playing to win?

because you're playing with a mindset that you will lose what you've worked to gain...if i was playing with someone who left the table and came back with the minimum, i'd be looking to pounce on him, because to me, it seems like he's scared. just my .02

Its called ratholing. You would not get away with this in a casino. First off, it is not good etiquite...beyond that, it puts you at a disadvantage. If you are a winning player, you want to have the whole table covered if possible. If you are a losing player, you should continue to do what you are doing as to minimize your losses when you do eventually lose.

I know what you mean, and i too do this once and awhile.say your up 300..... and you leave for a 10 min break then sit back down with only 100 of your profit.I think this is a good stratagy in that if you bust out in this new session, then you don't rebuy from your profit earlier in the day.If this happens to me, i usually just shut it down for the day until a fresh session. It's just a mindset thing i guess.

read daniel's article on poker pages on this topic. I think it is entitled "playing hours not profit" or something like that, you will know it when you see it.

:? I like the philosophy that you play every hand new like it will be the best hand you could ever have......stay positive...don't let bad beats carry over.......I understand you wanting to sneak out ahead.....nothing wrong with that, but you are casting a doubt on your confidence.......and that can hurt your game.......

I will also be the first to admit that when my stack gets large I tend to get sloppy with my calls. Aside from hoarding my winnings I'm pretty much also trying to plug a hole that I know is in my game. Is there really a casino rule against ratholing or is this more of an ettiquite issue? I'm pretty sure I've seen this done at AC.

I haven't seen a casino or online site that will allow you to rathole unless you have been out for 30mins. Why would you want to anyway, you always want to have the most money at the table (especially in no limit/pot limit)

How does one get drawn out on if you have the nuts?

Nuts = best hand that can be had at with the present board. Stone cold nuts = best hand period. A high straight with a board that's two to a suit is the nuts, but other hands (like a flush draw) can beat it depending on the next street.

im not sure what site you play on.but if its party then i would just stick with it.it also depends on the table though,if you actually are up against a couple good players(not just lucky ones)then this could be a good idea.but 9 times out of 10 there is only more profit to be made on party.

sometimes i'll log on and play a cheap buy-in tourney just for entertainment, and a lot of the time i get bored w/ the tourney and buy into my regular cash game, and if i win a decent pot pretty quickly, i just leave. i'd usually continue to play if i was playing well, but in a situation like this, i'm content to just leave. this usually happens when i have to go to bed soon/need to get some sleep/whatever. i know i shouldn't play at all if i don't have the time, but i'm a degenerate just like the rest of y'all.

I've never understood... if I've got equity at a table, I lose money by leaving. If I've made 300 bucks playing in a NL game and the players are bad, I can EXPECT to make EVEN MORE. Yeah, sometimes I'll lose a 600 dollar pot. But much much much more often I'll win that pot, and be ahead.I dunno, I've never understood the hit-and-run concept. If you can and are beating the game, keep playing until there's some financial reason to quit.Ice

Personally, I really really like having everyone at the table covered. Therefore, I'm somewhat averse to leaving with a big stack and a ripe table.Side question for everyone...What's the most multiples of the max buy-in that y'all have gotten to in NL? I took $10 to $100 in .05/.10 once, and I've gotten to $300 in .25/.50.The sickest thing I've ever seen in that regard...a guy was sitting at a PL O8B table with $1,300. The max buy-in was $100.

Did you see the post by that dude who made it to $500+ sitting at the .1/.15 table or whatever? The best I've ever done was about $260 at a .25/.50 table at my college.
