New Challenge: Movin' On Up

Recommended Posts

Played some live 200nl today (for a little over 12 hours again)Down to my last $36. There's a raise to $6, 4 callers, and I'm in the BB with 22. I make a pretty lolbad shove, but I don't think the original raiser is that strong, because she raises larger with pairs, so maybe it's not too bad if everyone else folds.Anyways, 3 people call my all in, and I somehow manage to win.Lady had AQ, some other dude had KJ, and not sure about the 3rd person.

This deserves to get seen by a few more people. From our resident Stupidhead...v1.27Feral Cow Poker Hand ConverterHEM/Poker Stars NL Hold'em $1.00/$2.00 - 6 playersButton: $237.98SB: $200.00BB: $60.00

I remember when this thread was all about how bad KJ was at 3betting

He's probably not flatting KJ's raise otf if he had a2. Besides, A2 is such a small portion of his range here, we are never ever ever ever ever ever ever folding the turn. People are stupid, they do

did you run it up??
I managed to come back and win around $100, although at one point I was up around $200Two other fun hands without much description.I made a really thin value bet with QQ on 76653, got called, and won. I bet/folded the turn of Ac8c6sTd with AK. Folded face up, and the other guy showed the straight.

Shipped $350 @ 1/3 Friday. Bought in $500, and hovered between the $350-$550 mark. Won a huge pot late in the night by getting lucky. (How else do I win?)I straddle to $6, 4 limpers and I check with 98ss.Flop Js6d2s. Checked to me, I led for $21, some kid wearing a hood makes it $52. BB flats, I 3-bet to $176 total. Kid calls, BB folds. Kid I have no history with, he seemed somewhat aggro in the 2 hours he'd been there. I had never played with him before. He only has about $190 behind, I cover him. Turn 7x. I shove. He tanks for a minute or so.When he tanked I was pretty sure he had Jx and was gonna fold, my main fear was 66 or 22, but when he doesn't snap I figure it's not that. He eventually calls and has AJ. I was kind of annoyed about the call since I literally have the bottom of my range.I obv bink a 5h for the stone cold nuts and ship the pot.

There was a guy yesterday sat at some of my tables that was Supernova but playing 5NL, checked him out on PTR and it looks like he has played 1.3mil hands at 10NL + 500k at 5NL. Losing player as well before bonuses.

+~100 last night. $40 buyin tourney to start. Only 4 players tho. I get smacked by the deck for the most part and crush. Had 44>AQ on 345Q7 board. Still vbet the river for 90% of the guys stack. Then 22>A7 to eliminate the next guy. Then raised pre HU with AK, guy flatted for 1/2 is stack lolz. J74 flop he shipped I call. He had K7 and I obv went running clubs. So +$60 there. Then won another $50 playing cash which was mostly NLO8. Scooped a decent pot with A479 on a 3Q865 board. James, every time I go to this game, I can't decided if I actually like it.Like, the first night I was there. I got a bunch of shit from the table because I (correctly) burned a card between streets while dealing stud. Nobody noticed it until 5th or 6th and some tard was all pissed when he lost because I 'screwed up all the cards'. Another thing is there just never seems to be a whole lot of people there. Granted, the first time I was there, there were 13-14 people on two tables. However in the 3-4 times I've gone since the max we were was 6. I don't mind 6 handed and I understand when the game starts slow, but when we spend the majority of the night 3 or 4 handed it's kind of lame. And then there's Mike... He would badger people to contribute to the 'snack fund' which I didn't mind. I'd throw a couple bucks in the jar or only cashout $80 when I had $83 even though the snacks were bleh, but he didn't rake the game so I didn't mind. It was a table filled with everything you find in the candy isle at the grocery store which was nice of him, the problem was nobody ****ing took care it. Every single bag of chips/candy/whatever would get left open and was stale. Last night he said he stopped the snack fund because nobody contributed but still took $20 from the tourney pool for the 'new deck fund'. Which he didn't inform us of this until after the tourney. He went upstairs after busted 4th and the 3 of us agreed on a $120/$40 payout. After I win he comes down and is like 'Oh, for two people is 95/45 because of the new deck fund.' His decks were getting old but still, if you're going to run a game, spend $15-$20 every month or two and buy your own cards. He also seems to get annoyed if anybody calls a game during their round that involves less than 4 cards. /end mini rant/brag

yeah, he's a d-bag. I don't eat or drink any of his ish so I don't contribute to the fund. The tourney is lol-dumb, so I don't play it, but super lame that he takes money for decks all the time... its only bc he constantly donates/ is a huge loser at poker. I think the friday night and sunday cash games get much better turnouts than tuesdays...I think calling holdem is good bc they are awful at it and they tilt a little bc of it. So you'd have an even bigger edge bc you're a better holdem player and they'll be pissed off.

mmmm hmmmm. The tourney is lol-dumb but most of the people that come for the tourney are horrible so it's EZ money. The first few times I've played they play HOP (Holdem, Omaha8, Pineapple) but there was an uber donk who only played holdem and was terrible at that so we just did holdem. Bunch of weak/tight players who I could have ran over even if I didn't get smacked with the deck.Mike's pretty horrible. He never folds, and most of the time he bets/raises he has it, and the few times he is bluffing it's just kind of obvious. I called pineapple (muck after) early on and got 6s4s4x on the button and limped to see a 643 flop. There was a bet and I decided to be cautious (aka play like a vag) and just call and muck the 6. It's Mike, myself and a 3rd guy. Turn is a 5 and they both check. I don't put anybody on a straight so I bet to get value from FDs and 2 pair hands they both call. River is a 3, Mike leads for 5 I make it 12 he calls and shows a 7 and does his patented 'slam his cards across the table bitching about his luck.' move. Nice gutter ball call on flop/check on turn when you have the 2nd nuts/bet-calling the river on a paired board basically putting it heaps with the worst hand and no money with the best hand/well played! unlucky!Maybe I'll head over there on a Sunday and see what's up.

Even though I am most likely a terrible writer. I'm thinking of writing a mini-article (for no reason at all) with tips for live cash games that have nothing to do with playing itself. Like things to help your mind-set, what to do before playing etc...

"Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through." — Ira Glass

Update for reasons why Tryestro doesn't miss online poker:I went 1/5 with over pairs in 3 or 4 bet pots today. It's fun to lose stacks.

Thanks QED. I can always count on you to come through; in my moments of weakness I reflect on your wisdom.Cobalt, you need those peanut butter bars I pasted earlier,if you haven't gotten them already. I went from 155 to 164 in hardly any time at all.

They looked a tad pricey, but I'll look for them. I had a load of Chinese food tonight. Ate a few hours ago and still feel stuffed.

I think he felt that you were scared with your check on the turn and just fired out a pot sized bet on the turn.I'd put the rest of his $2 or so all-in (that would be your only move) or fold if you belive him, but I think he just took advantage of your weak check on 4th street.
