GambleToWin 0
I know this is kind of a random question, but I was just reading over the forum and I started wondering why I'm not allowed to play at a casino. Right now I'm 16 years old and I play poker on a weekly basis. I have my own online account, under my dad's name, and I play in home cash games and tournaments with my friends. Why is gambling illegal if your under 21? At 18 years old your legally old enough to fight in a war, but your not allowed to play cards? That just doesn't seem right to me. I should be getting my license soon, but I'm not allowed to play cards? I understand why drinking is illegal under 21 b/c minors are not experienced to handle it, but you can't really say that about gambling can you? I guess they don't want kids to become degenerates, but many will anyway. Enough of my ranting....Does anyone have a serios answer to why this is illegal and why 16 yr. olds shouldn't gamble at casinos?

rgold79 0
Kids are irresponsible and do stupid things. Gambling, like alcohol, leads people to do very stupid things. For reference, see the story of Greg Hogan, president of his class at Lehigh University and now serving time in prison for robbing a bank to attempt to pay off debts he ran up playing poker online. Poker's not going anywhere, it will still be there when you turn 21.

erac22 0
Honestly, who the f.uck cares? There are way sweeter places to hang out when you're 16 than a casino. Go to the movies, play tennis, I dunno. There's no need to be around those miserable people before you're 21 (or after for that matter). And you already said you can gamble online, so who cares if you can't do it with the degerate a.sshole crackheads that comprise the vast majority of the casino going population.erac
cu in 4years Dan 1
i believe that poker should not be classed as gambling and should not be illegal under the age of 18 (21, whatever the legal age is where you are).i understand other forms of gambling to it, but poker has too many factors that are beneficial to a person's... i want to say growth? eYank 0
from wat I understand the legal gambling age in the US is 18, casinos restrict it to 21 because they serve alcohol and dont want to have to keep checking IdsCasinos in Florida allow 18 yr olds as does Turning Stone in upstate NY
GambleToWin 0
Ok guys I knew i was gonna get flamed haha but anyway isn't poker just a game. Wouldn't you guys say it was messed up that someone can recklessly drive in a vehicle that can kill and shoot weapons, but not be able to play a game of cards. I understand the argument that they don't want a country full of degenerates and they think it is a bad influence or whatever, but its not like someone would be putting a gun to minors heads and forcing them to gamble. As poker playing adults, would you be opposed to playing against people 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 years old?

KUPoker5 0
Does anyone have a serios answer to why this is illegal and why 16 yr. olds shouldn't gamble at casinos? There's always the slippery slope argument. If you start letting 16 year olds gamble, then 9 year olds will want to gamble too. Thank god most of the can't argue well enough to convince our government to change anything. And you yourself used the word "minor." Nobody would be forcing minors to gamble, but the word minor means that you are not an adult and still require adult supervision. Gambling can be a dangerous activity and requires the maturity and experience to realize that there are situations and limits that you should be aware of in order to not get into trouble. At 16, you just can't be expected to have that type of maturity. Sorry - nothing personal.

mx957 0
As well as kids are handling responsiblity these days...the age of adulthood is going up. Some states are now moving the driving age from 16 to 18. When I was 18 we could drink beer but hard liquor was 21, not anymore. I do agree with the argument that if you are old enough to fight for your country then you should be afford all the rights of adults. 16 is way to young. Some kids are adults at 18, some at 21 and even some never get it. Our society is playing to the lowest common denominator so naturally the age keeps going up. Instead of holding the bad apples accountable for their bad behavior we just jack up the age limit and hope that helps.I will say that most kids these days need the extra years between 18 and 21 to mature, but not all. Going off that point: I think the closer a person actually gets to being 21, the more he or she realizes that they were not mature enough to gamble when they were 16. ForRealDD 0
Read all of this.Additionally, our youth is the future of our nation. You should have to go to school, you should have to experience a job, and learn the value of money and what is important. When you become an adult (no, a few pubic hairs do not qualify you), then you can make your own decison on whether or not you want to better the world, or become a degenerate and join us. You are naive at this age and want to think it's a glamorious life, when in reality (even though you are the best player ever) , you will no doubt endure years of heart-ache, depression, depresssion, and depression. A very small percentage of "serious" players will ever gain anything positive from gambling, aside from a learning experience, and hind-sight 20-20.
Alpha1494 0
The primary reason you can't gamble in a casino unless your 21 is an alcohol issue. A lot of casino revenue can ultimately be traced back to alcohol. From a strictly business standpoint, it would be much more difficult to efficiently run a casino if players less than 21 were allowed to gamble. If you want a better answer as to why you can't gamble unless your 21, then its probably because you touch yourself at night.Alpha
blacktie31 0
In OK it depends on the drinking setup at the casino. If they want to be able to have hard drinks on the floor it has to be over 21.If just beer or other "soft drinks" it can be 18.btw i just about won't play in the 18 and over casinos bc of the poor behavior.
