If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

My mom is very old and as such, very old school. Growing up, she used to rub that stuff on our chests and then wipe it way in the back of our throats even though the package says not to ingest it. Good times.

Do I have the oldest mother in the thread? Probably. She's 80.

Seems like my company didn’t award any equity this year. I am guessing they decided to push it back until the new valuation numbers are out. From memory, I think my company is worth at least $20 million. If I were to leave, even with the most orderly transition period ever, it’s hard to imagine the damage to the current and future prospects would be less than $100k. Am I expecting a $100k award? No, of course not, but it struck me as an interesting thought process. I have no idea how these numbers are decided in actually. I actually doubt I’ll get any award at all, which is pretty silly IMO given the above.

I’m not 100% sure if I’ll be getting a raise, but I’m 75% sure. I don’t have access to salary details but I do see the financials.

Our department of 4 are all salaried. Salary expense has been the exact same the past four months. Budget for this year has this amount going up 3.5%, starting in January. My boss was just promoted last year so I can’t imagine he’d be getting a non-standard raise. The other analyst...potentially since it seems he’s taken on a bigger role. The other guy, maybe, but doubtful. I know there’s no headcount increase.

My boss hasn’t said anything though and first paycheck is Friday and it doesn’t have any raise. I don’t trust any of my coworkers to not tell my boss I was asking about raises so that option’s out. I also don’t think it would reflect well if I just asked my boss directly.

So, I guess I just wait and see.

Also, im an idiot and just checked the payroll schedule and it turns out salary are also paid in arrears and so this paycheck covers mostly December and a few days in January. I assume the next check will include the raise, if I get one.

So I guess this is some kind of a retention guideline, and the firm would have to subtract current share ownership through the various ways to get someone to their retention floor amount. I can’t wrap my head around how it would work in aggregate. In reality, the damage to the firm’s market cap starts compounding as more people leave.

Did you have a shot at the bigger role the other analyst took on? Interesting that you basically can back into the raise amount, whoever it is.

I did not as it was established before I got here. But the other guy, who in his own words is an “old and overweight diabetic” is basically the only person who knows the interest rate stuff and so there’s a real opportunity for me to work as his backup which could prove very valuable in the future.

That seems really low from what I imagined from your posts. How many employees do you have?

Sales are probably like $25 million, but the net number is murky because it’s not clear how profit is actually paid out, share ownership dividends vs. compensation vs. what we tell the valuation people it was. I got somewhat of an inside look at how it is done, and came away with the feeling that the growth prospects probably shouldn’t influence my decision making for the time being, e.g. no reason to stick around hoping the company stock is going to compound into something life-changing.

Started raining yesterday morning, and the temp just kept increasing all day. At midnight, it was 60. Rained all night. Woke up this morning. and all the ~15 inches of snow from last week is gone. Like, all that remains is remnants of piles that were 4-5 feet high. And then, it's going to down to 12 tonight, and the insane amount of water is going to freeze everything, and it's all going to be a skating rink.
