I Called In Sick Today

Recommended Posts

Been thinking about it today, I am breaking one of my own rules by just being passively pissed about my job situation. I think I need to at least know what’s out there. There are two problems.

My company makes it mandatory that you hand over your LinkedIn password and let them actively log everything. It’s considered a risk that I may do business with clients over LinkedIn, so everyone regardless of job title is required to allow monitoring. Frankly I think it’s a huge privacy violation and can’t understand why my personal texts aren’t treated the same way.

It’s a small world and my CEO knows everyone. If I apply locally, for certain, it’ll get back to someone at my firm within a month.

So I don’t know what to do. I’m not serious about leaving, and if I start applying, it seems pretty likely that it’ll be discovered and possibly held against me.

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

Essay seems to have been gone for a minute. He's probably spending time with his new girlfriend for the holidays.

More likely, he finally miscalculated his auto erotic asphyxiation while jerkin it ahd hung himself

You'll be missed, my man. Most of your content was shit, but dammit, you brought it with conviction. You'd occasionally make a solid top ten and definitely get some good zingers off. We thank you for your service

I should've said these things to him while he was still alive.

I won't make that mistake with you, NapaD

i knew you loved me. i love you too buddy.

i'm in similar spot. i'm frustrated at my current job but i'm fairly certain there's nothing else out there and if i interview elsewhere people will find out. after bonuses in February I'm going to start seriously looking. To get what i want, though, i will likely have to move out of state, possibly to Delaware. not sure i'm man enough for that kind of move.

Strat...is working with a recruiter under some amount of anonymity an option?

It’s a good idea. I will check it out. Thank you.

I will know whether I’m getting any equity by 12/31. Heard some discouraging things about the status of that, so they may not do it at all. If they do award any equity this year, and I’m not among the recipients, I will get more aggressive with the job search, likely to the point where I’d take a 20-30% cut just to be out of this situation.

My boss gave me some good praise yesterday in our 1 on 1. I’ve also been told that big boss man has been talking me shit up, too. My boss mentioned that next year he’d really like to see me and the other analyst become sort of controllers for our respective business lines which I think would be good for the resume.

It’s odd, I don’t know how big my company is vs. Napa’s, but our controller is nowhere near as advanced in her career as Napa... in other words, I feel he’d be overqualified for the job.

We have a pretty decent sized accounting department (3 full timers), so it’s not like she isn’t managing anyone or left with little responsibility. Her background isn’t accounting, but she did just get her CPA.

Controller has such a wide berth of definitions. While auditing some co-ops had controllers that made $150k+ and were basically CFO’s and others that made $35k that couldn’t even get accruals right. My boss is the controller here and he reports directly to the CFO. I’m thinking he wants us to just really understand and know what’s happening with everything in the financials and start being the go-to person for our segments.Ultimately, I think it’ll be really good opportunity here and I can’t wait to be able to put the other analyst and his condescending tone in his place.

Anyone ever been jerked off in front of a horse by its owner? I'm not sure if he was jealous, aroused, or both, but it was definitely intense for him, based on the noises he made. Equine cuckolding goes both ways.

Nope. But if I wasn’t scared of girls in the 6th grade I probably could have made it happen.

Any updates on our friend, Brvy?

The google home mini + $25 Google Express coupon deal at Walmart, for $29, is probably the best deal I have ever seen. Get 3 smart switches for $27 at Newegg, a chromecast for $30, and you have a voice-controlled home theater room with minimal setup pain.

I spent a good amount of time today writing code to send clean, explanatory HTML emails with my spreadsheets. I’m launching a tool on Friday targeted toward lead advisors, and am coming to realize that just making data available is not enough to top 30-40% adoption, even though everyone has a pretty strong incentive to understand what’s going on.

I’m sure this kind of polish is super important for Google-sized companies, but realistically I probably wasted my time. But damnit, it looks really nice now.

The character named Dang from Silicon Valley, I was basically him today.

How so? You were just annoyed at everyone because they kept changing their minds?
