Beal has guts that most people on this forum only dream of having. He knew nothing about LHE, taught himself to play a VERY difficult variation of it (heads-up), and had the balls to put up his own money playing the very best players in the world (and while the money wasn't much of a risk -- the public humiliation he risked from losing a large sum WAS very meaningful). The pros got to switch players, whereas he had no tag team. He gave beatings in some sessions and took a beating in others. Like every heads-up LHE player in the world does.Frankly, if the pros were honest, they'd admit that their edge over Beal was very, very small. Playing $50K-$100K blinds, $3M is absolutely a pittance. Those of you who are rejoicing over Beal's "demise" are ridiculous. He's richer than you'll ever be (and entirely self-made), smarter than you'll ever be, and he'd beat the living crap out of any of you heads-up.And, significantly, he's done something that probably no one else on this forum has or will ever do -- earned respect from the best players in the world for his heart and skill at playing a game at the highest levels. No one should hate on Andy Beal or run their mouth. It's irritating that people with few or no real accomplishments in the real world (let alone poker) should make derogatory comments about a guy who they should respect and admire for his brains and talent.I very much doubt that Beal is quitting because he feels "beaten." He's probably just confirmed to himself that he's playing a close to even-money affair for an amount of money that means nothing to him. He has better things to do, I'm sure. He might be back, he might not. I doubt it's anything close to as big a deal to him as it is to many of the micro-limits wannabes on this forum.

i wouldnt get too worked up. the first rule of the internet is that everyone gets insulted, pretty much without exception.im sure 90 percent of the posters here would agree with you, its just that the insulters make more noise.and oh yea, the second rule of the internet is that you must do your best to ignore the mindless trolls because they feed off attention, negative or otherwise.

I think he's hardly destroyed.  The guy faired incredibly well against the best players in the world.  He also put hiimself in a position to be poked fun at by the entire poker world, when he evitably lost a fairly large sum to the pros.3 million is pocket change to this guy so, I doubt it was the loss or the swings that made him decide to give it up.  He probably just wanted the challenge to play the best.  Now that he did, he's probably ready to move on to another experience.

You are mistakenly judging a person by the limits they play and by how money rich they are. Dude, relax.

I'm not hating on Beal, but I don't admire or respect him for his banking or poker accomplishments. I just don't get where you get off spouting about people on this forum with little to no accomplishments (Let alone poker). This is the Internet, not everyone is an ego maniac who has to post his resume. My point is that it takes a certain amount of arrogance to walk in and challenge the best at any profession for the money he did. And another thing, I don't give a damn how many BBs he lost. Poker is measured in Wins and Losses, not excuses. He lost 3 million dollars. He is a billionaire, but 3 million dollars is still 3 million dollars to anyone. Let'snot forget these are the same people rejoicing over DNs $755,000 win. Sometimes it's not all about the money, but in poker it is.

cant handle the swings.. Well at least he realized it before he lost more.
He only lost 30BB heads-up. That is nothing!!!!!!!!!! Andy Beal did great in that game. He played 5 long sessions, the pros constantly changed. He had to adjust to every new pro, they didn't. He outplayed every pro except for Ted's final session (crushed him in an earlier session). Give the man his props, Beal could crush any of us and most pros.

Your a donk and I have never flamed anyone on FCP before. Your lack of intellect makes me feel sorry for your parents. Please do the world a favor and get fixed. You are a jealous little man with probably nothing to live for so just end it. Nobody will miss you. Re-read your post and see why you are a moron. Thank you and take care of yourself.

Nice argument, calling me a donk. You win. With my lack of intellect, I couldn't possibly come back from that. Truth is, I admire people who die for their country and people who raise a family, single parents and people who fight for a common cause. What I don't admire is a billionaire walking into a casino, challenging the world's best and losing. Sorry, I just don't. Sometimes people like you need to step back and put things into perspective. In my opinion, you're the empty little man. You are the one looking up to a rich banker who donks off money to pros. I love poker, but I also realize there are a couple of things more important. You have no idea who I am or what I have accomplished. I don't know who you are or what you've accomplished, yet you've gotten personal and I haven't. Telling me nobody will miss me, end my life, etc. Yeah, I'm the one with no intellect. Go back to worshipping celebrities, buddy, I'll continue to contribute to society in the meantime.

Eh? What's your problem? In my book the guy is perfectly entitled to his own opinion. What makes u feel that he isn't? Not only was ur flaming pathetic, you chose not to back it up with any substance. Why don't you tell us all why somebody MUST admire AND respect Andy Beal because of his billionaire status? When did it become acceptable to be so intolerant of other ppl's opinions?

You are entiltled to admire who ever you'd like to and for whatever reasons you wish. I choose to admire Andy because to me its an incredible accomplishment to become a self made billionaire. He has had an insane drive and work ethic since a very young age and built an empire through his own hardwork and sacrifice. To me that is admirable. From what I have read he is a devoted family man and is also very charitable with his fortune which again I find to be admirable. It is very easy to just stop working once you've conquered your chosen industry, Andy could've easily appointed someone to run his operations and disappeared to an island in the sun. However he has chosen to you his natural intelect and drive and focus on other things firstly I believe it was solving a math theorm (I may be wrong), then his aerospace project and eventually poker. I admire the fact that even though he easily could've lived a life of solitude and luxury without ever working another minute he has sought out other ventures and devoted himself to being the best he could be. I don't begrudge him for wandering into the Casino and challenging the best in the world just like I don't begrudge Celine Dions husband for playing in the big game or Marco for becoming so good after marrying Jen Harmon or Jennifer Tilly for nailing Phil Laak and becoming a tourney winner. I guess we all find different traits admirable.

I admire the fact that you gave reasons for your admiration and didn't resort to thoughtless put-downs. Well done. I agree with some of your points, but that might just be because of your screen name.

Doyle Brunson doesn't consider Beal a donkey so I see little reason for me (or anyone else here) to blindly assert otherwise.
He may not be a donkey, but if Doyle thought he was one, would he really say it? I mean, his team has taken Beal's money each time (Regardless of how little). Calling him a donkey would only push him away. For the record, I don't believe this is the case, but I don't know Doyle.

Wow man do you get any light living under Andy Beal's nut sack? Look the guy is a billionaire do you thing that he's the first filthy rich guy to challenge the pro's at there own game? These guys buy houses based on rich old guys that "want another challenge".Did Andy Beal do ok considering he was up against the some of the best poker players in the world, yes, but what we should all learn from this is don't live under rich mens ball sacks.seriously man

PSJust because someone is filthy rich does'nt mean that people should admire them, sure the guys got money but so what there are plenty of degenerates that have money. There are a thousand working joes who bust there ass to support there family and I would much rather admire them then some eccentric billionaire.

Sadly, Silky, I am not the expert on ball sack living that you are. Clealy, you are the Martha Stewart of ball sacks (and ball sack-related lifestyle items). I was only visiting for the purpose of posting, but, rest assured, I do appreciate a long-term owner of a ball sack villa telling that I need to go with "full shade" plants, rather than full sun.On your exceptionally well-phrased argument... My admiration of Beal has nothing to do with his being rich, but rather how he got that way. By all accounts, he's exceptionally bright and driven. While we're all delighted that you are a champion of the common man, your reverse classism is both stupid and offensive. Disliking someone for being successful (which you clearly do) is just as ridiculous and illogical as liking someone just because they're wealthy. There are many "working joes" who are more admirable than many rich people. There are also many that are unambitious morons who made poor life choices. It's what you make of your life with the talents you have that defines your success. By this definition, Andy Beal is pretty worthy of respect and admiration, while my slacker friend with the 150 IQ who works as a bartender because it lets him sleep in really doesn't merit the same respect. If you can't see the difference, then I guess that tells us all we need know about you.

Yes...b/c for beal its an ego thing...He wants beat the pros...Why do u think he goes into "hiding" for years and then all of a sudden come out much better than when he left? For beal it is all about proving that he can take on and beat the pros. So what benefit is it for the pros to admit that hes as good as them? They want beal to keep coming back. But if beal doesnt think he has anything to prove do u think hes gonna come back? of course not...They are better off sayin beal sucks and that hes no good in order to get beal back..
