Al,You don't need advice from a bracelet winner. You need to read a beginners book and figure out how the game is played. Learn basics, before you try to learn advanced strategies. You don't have to be an expert to know that 9882 is unplayable from any position, and you should've folded on every street.Good luck learning thoughYou'll be fine is you have 1/2 of brain.

Aaron Cantor posts under the OP's SN. Happened in my home game last night. And mind you, we have been playing omaha for about 11 years or so in this game. Board is five different cards and dude says "I have a boat." Uh, no you don't. Sure I do.....I have two J's and a 9 in my hand to go with the J-9 on the board. Great, your set loses to the flush. No, I have a boat. Took about five minutes to resolve (didn't help that the guy with the "boat" knows everything about everthing that exists, as in, he is never wrong).

This is good advice and in a surprisingly nice way. That hand is soooooo bad that you almost want to throw it away if you were in the BB and it was not raised to you. You are taking a chance playing it for free (almost). Under no circmustances can you call this hand UTG! You really need to read little on this game before you play anymore or I GUARANTEE you will be a losing player at this. Read these articles and you will be 1000% improved. These are the kinds of donks who cash in WPT events!Bah!:club:
easy now cowboy...I've more than proven myself at NLHE for the people who post on this site, but as I said, I'm trying to learn some other games. I openly admit I'm a newb at Stud or Omaha or anything other than NLHE, but easy on the "donk" stuff.
That little face down there is laughing... that means i was kidding.
No harm done, but you and I both know how quickly a simple mistake like mine can spiral downward on this site. If I ever see you at a WPT event I'll buy you a beer! Cool? The LA Classic is coming up in Feb, you gonna be there?
I'm going to be there Wed Feb 1 thru Fri Feb3 then to Vegas. This will be me and the guys 4th consecutive superbowl weekend trip one of my buddies is an omaha 8 specialist and loves beer!! We have a commerce home game waiting for us on Wed. starting at 10pm with 4 seats left 100 buy nlhe. PM me if you want in. Also looking at playing in the 1000 nlhe tourny Feb 2.

It is funny that a guy that has played a major buy in tourney doesn't know the first rule of Omaha.Don't be afraid to read SSII, just for a heads up.
That's because MOST of these guys that play major buyin tourney's are just Holdem Donkey's.....They think Holdem is the only game...they don't realize that Holdem was a game invented for idiots.

OK, so I'm trying to learn how to play some games other than NLHE so I've been trying my hand at Omaha and 7-stud. Although on this Omaha hand to follow I would think that I would play my 9h to complete the flush and give me the winning hand. Can someone please explain why PP played my 88 to give me 2 pair with the board and not the 9h to give me the flush? Is this mistake common, or is it not a mistake as far as the game is concerned. If anyone here has cashed in a WSOP 7-card Stud or Omaha event, I'd love some beginners advice if you've got the time. Thanks!Al
Hey Al,I'd be happy to give you some advice. I have cashed in two Omaha Hi-Lo events and one Stud event in the past five years. I'm looking for someone to mentor and I'm willing to talk it over with you. My only price is the big toe from the right foot of your first born son. No questions asked.Speedz

heh...I deserve most of this cause not having a full understanding of the rules of any game is a dumb move, but I'll explain a little just for the hell of it.I was playing at the $200 buy in game and had just won three hands in a row with my minimal understanding of the game and had worked my way up to the $270 listed in the HH. I left the table a few hands later with $190.I played the hand because of winning the previous three and because calling the $2 from UTG with that hand (albeit a stupid move) didn't mean that much to me...I basically looked at it as pocket 8's and was chasing a set.As Alf mentioned, yes I've played in a couple of majors and held my own, but NLHE is the only poker game I ever tried to learn. I've always been a recreational gambler until I started taking up NLHE because of the poker boom. I'd like to learn the others so I guess I'm going to have to crack open my SSII and read some of those other games. It's too bad I'm stubborn. :club:

A little advice...if you really want to play PLO in the future....Get used to the idea of laying down Sets...top set, middle set, bottom set.....just get used to that idea....then...you will begin to understand the game.

The previous 3 hands your all-in move on the river with the nut flush caused your opponent to muck his hand(is being dealt Ad three times in a row without any other diamond present a record?)
