The act of transfering money to people you only know through online poker is stupid. There are plenty of scam artists out there guys, don't do it. Even when it's not a scam, you can get your stuff messed up bad.A close friend of mine got caught up with some jerk. Knew eachother through a mutual online poker 'friend' so he loaned him a few times and always saw it back. Then he loans the guy like 500 this one time and he loses it. He begs for more money so he can make it back, and yet again he donks it off. Meanwhile, my friend funds his poker with his CC and always makes the payments, but now the bill is approaching and this guy gets in debt to him for over $2500. May not be alot to some of you, but when you have bills to pay and your at college, being short $2500 on your CC bill is not good.I felt bad for him, but it was his own fault. He went through so much crap trying to get this guy to pay him, but he lives in FL and we are in PA. He's trying to actually take legal action right now with some success, but the stress and worry that he endured will hopefully help to erase the perpetual trust he has in online poker players. This guy was just some loser college player who played above his limits, and my friend kept investing money just to try to make back what he loaned to the guy.

sorry OP. next time have a veteran from this forum to make a transaction. most are reliable
I'm not a veteran, but he came to me first i think...and we exchanged a few PMs. I was just waiting until both of us were online. I offered 120 back when had 170 because I felt he was just cutting himself too short. Sorry man. Someone punch fourfour44 in the groin, we know where he's technically from right?
Wikipedia is your friend.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwned

Does anyone know how to search for a specific person (such as fourfour44), if you don't know where he posted last? I dont want to scroll trhough all the members...there are a lot.
search function on the left will give you an option to check for members post. Use an * for a partil match.

how did the "pwned" word ever get started? i've seen it a few other places. anyone know the story behind it?
Pwned is a "gamer" word. It is basically a mistyping of "owned", because the p is next to the o.One story reports that in an RTS game (either WarCraft II or Starcraft), someone made a custom map where losing players would see a special message. However, instead of typing in "YOU WERE OWNED," a typo resulted in "YOU WERE PWNED." It is said that every use of the word pwn therefore comes from this one hapless misspelling, or a similar one occurring in another game.that's the story I always heard.Wikipedia is your friend.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwned
Pretty much.I played a lot of Counter Strike, very popular when Starcraft was first getting started. The word pwned or pwnd or owned or whatever you want to say was used to shun the people you beat in the game. Here is a quote from an actual live game on CS: "Oh!!!!!! HEAD SHOT BITCH!!!!!!!!! PWWWWWNNNNNNNNDDDD"

Avesher, I hope you are joking about giving out your username and password so someone can verify that this happened. You couldn't possibly be that naive could you? I hope you learned your lesson better then that.

At various times in B&M establishments I have been asked for loans. I have given people loans very rarely, and only when I knew them, knew where they lived, knew that they had the money to pay me back straight away.To let someone hold your money, especially when you don't know them, or anything about them is just like giving it away.Gambling in all its forms seems to attract the worst dregs of humanity. Of course gambling is just as addictive as drugs and causes all the problems that drugs cause. The addicted gambler will do anything to fund his habit. He will give up his house, he will lie, he will steal - even from close relatives. A complete stranger across an internet link is just a sucker waiting to be tricked.Far from losing $100 odd, you have paid for a valuable lesson, and this has been the cheapest one I have ever seen. Don't waste this lesson - in future you need to look at the person you are about to give access to your money and ask yourself a very simple question:"What is there stopping him from just keeping that money?"If (for instance) you know where he lives then you can appear at his door. If you know his family you can shame him into a repayment. If he has a history of being honest and others you trust have vouched for him. Note the plural "others" there. If you get something of value to hold while he has your money.I once had a rat in a casino offer me his watch in exchange for a loan. I looked at the watch and it was not something I wanted if he defaulted on the loan. As well I thought it was barely worth the amount requested. I politely declined his offer. He persisted and so did I. I was convincing because he went to find another sucke... er financial backer.
