will phil ever hit 10

Recommended Posts

OF course he will hit ten, probably within the next two yearsThe better question is how many he will have at the end of his playing days. I say 14 or 15, as he still has at least ten more years in him, and probably more. Eventually, poker will lose a little bit of its popularity (there is no way it can stay this hot) and Phil will focus a little more on his game rather than capitalizing on poker's popularity.

He will reach 10 eventually. The real question is will Phil win a bracelet in a non-hold'em event? :-)

to be honest, if doyle hadn't boycotted the wsop for so many years, he would've been past 10 a long time ago
Good call.....I also think Ted Forrest would have around 10 bracelets had he not taken such a long break from tournaments.

or the fact that he only played in the ME after 93 until last year, think about it, he has 5 bracelets and really has only played in like 25 wsop events tops, layne flack has 5 or 6 bracelets himself

this might be common knowledge to some but why did he boycott? and what years?
he sided against benny binion's daughter(he's very good friends with jack) and she was the one running things for a real long time. I'm not sure of the years, but he didn't play in that many of them for around 10-15 years I think

On a tangential note - who will be the first person to get to 15 bracelets? And how many years will it be before it happens.Chan and Hellmuth obviously are the frontrunners (with Doyle probably running out of time).Ivey figures to be the most likely player to emerge from the pack to eventually challenge Chan and Hellmuth in that race. I think someone will do it within 30 years.

i like phil ivey's chances of getting to 15 first. he has proven he can make his way through huge tournament fields, plus he excells at games other than no limit holdem. chan will get there before hellmuth as well but i say phil is good for another 30-40 cashes plus a few braclets in the coming years.

That's what I'm talking about....he took an 11 year hiatus from the other WSOP events. Forrest could have easily won 4-5 bracelets in that time, putting him around 10. Even with that hiatus I think he will be able to get at least 3 more bracelets, and that's a conservative estimate.

bash him all you want but hes really good player.  its likely he will get ten. and yes he was once better then he is now.i did however read that he plays suprisingly LOW stakes poker.
dunno what he does live, if anything, but he's played 100/200 on stars and 300/600 lowball and LHE + the big NL games on UB. he's hit and miss from what i've seen. he'll either win big or lose big, rarely anything in between. complains constantly lol.one thing does intrigue me, though. why doesn't he play any big online tournies like the stars $500k? or even the higher buy-in party SNGs? that Tony G guy (the really obnoxious and abusive guy from a couple of the WPT episodes) has said he's made $150k from those things. Phil's clearly light years ahead of someone like that, so why not take a chance? i've also heard TJ Cloutier has played the party SNGs. just seems like easy money for these tournament specialists.
