Ok I'm going to try to limit the length. As some of you know I just stepped up in limits. I was hesitant to do so as I was a steady earner. But my roll told me it was time.I have now played 3 sessions and I am down 40BB (+20, -30, -30). wtf. Before a bunch of you start posting crap about read this book, blah blah blah, I've read almst every book out there and I'm a CP subscriber. ect. so please, the more experienced guys only. Here's my concern, It seems as if at this new level every player is WAY loose. I'm talking Hanson loose... So I tighten up. focus on position. play premium only. but my K's are cracked by J3. set of 10's gutshot. no I'm not whining about bad beats I know they happen, but I'm really trying to figure out how to adjust my play to compensate. I will admit that I gave away a few bets even though I suspected I was beat, but previously I laid down 2 pair to a K high. They can't all just be that much better. I studied all the guys, before and after my session, and I just can find no reason to their play.I treid mixing it up but... whatever. I'm really trying to make a push here and do not want to drop back down.Anyway, enough ranting. intelligent discussion appreciated.

While I'm not them, I'll give you my "inexperienced" answer. It's variance kicking you in the ass. It happens. I think I've heard Smash say if you drop down to 200 BB's, you should move down a level - I agree with that approach.

Let me get this straight... you're down 40 dollars meaning you're playing at .5/1.00... and you're wondering why everyone is so loose?? Well, these are some of the softest loosest games you are ever gonna find, and to answer your question about what you're doing wrong...Probably nothing, and don't change your game b/c of it.. you will get better the more you play, and experience is the only thing that will teach this. You are going through a bit of variance at a bad time, but if you are a winning player, you will come out of it.. time will only tell if you are a winning player.

Customi thought so too at first. but I really think I'm doing something wrong. I mean the style of play is completely different at this level.plus it seems a little suspect for two -30BB variance sessions to occur exactly when I step up. I just can't accept that, or wait until I lose 160 more to do somehting about it.

No. let me get you straight. Try down $4K playing $50-$100. Time has already told.

40bb does not always = $40 :club:

Whoa tiger... didn't mean to ruffle any feathers... the way you wrote it, it looked like up 20 bux.. , then down 30, then down 30 again... and you said 40 BB.

If you are actually looking for a legit answer to your problem post some hands. If you are playing correctly then 2 bad sessions is no big deal, it happens. If you are worried you are getting outplayed then post the hands you had trouble with. Even the best of em go on bad runs like the one your going through.

its probly just variance. if your playing good hands against loose players and the only problem is your high pocket pairs being cracked, then its just variance. i lost half my roll in a few days, thought i was doing something wrong (i did tilt some of it off and i knew that). but things started turning around and in a couple days i made it all back.

Ok, for an honest answer, I need to have more information. Are you playing full 10 handed games at this level or short handed? While this could just be a short term downswing, maybe you're not used to the agressiveness and swings of playing sohrt handed. My advice is to step back down a bit, say 30-60 and only play 6 max tables. If you are playing full ring games, then you are probably just getting unlucky. Take a few days off, then go over your poker tracker stats. If things seem off, reevaluate, but you're prob. just getting some bad beats. GL -ahnuld

its live play, don't exactly have hand histories, and thats not really what I'm after anyway. Its more an adjustment to style of play, not how to play certain hands. For examle I'm sure the starting hands at the big game are way different that this! Just trying to get my bearings.I even decided to go back to 1-2 online to focus on fundamentals for a week. and be sure I haven't developed a hole.

Its not uncommon for this to happen. I also tend to lose whenever i move up in limits at first. first of all your adjusting to a new and different game, different players and of course your playing for more at stake as well and that's going to naturally have a subconscious effect on your play in most instances. Just play your normal A game, don't alter/change your play just because of a couple bad sessions. Make sure your confident and think your able to beat this game though, otherwise don't play there if your not ready. It's perfectly normal to need a few sessions under your belt to get acclimated to a new game, so don't sweat it too much.

You don't say what game or where you are playing. At $50-$100 Hm limit they do play all kind of junk, and there are big dollar swings. At that limit I would only play live games because reading is so important. Basically all you can do online however is read the board and use your experience as to what value each hand you have has over time, verses random garbage. Also, if you are moving "up" to $50 you can afford weekend plane flights to play live at the closest casino with a good game. I'd point out you can generally win just as much playing $20 or $30 because the players are much worse on weekends.

poker tracker stats... you guys are killing me. :club: this is 9-10 handed LIVE play. (in a back room custom)I cannot drop down to 30-60. it is either back to the grind $10-$20. or up with the big dogs....Many of you know I'm planning a move to vegas in Dec. due to my wife. Even more of a reason to get my shit straight first. Not to mention not lose my ass in the mean time.and no I can't fly out every weekend. the weekends are for my wife. plus the "closest" casino is AC, still a bitch of a flight.

well I put in 6 hours 2tables of $1-$2 play last night to check for leaks. I averaged 8bb hr, on one site/table and 6.5 on the other.guess I'm ok there. so I'm even more convinced its the level's play I'm having trouble with.

I wouldn't be concerned until it's a 150 downswing. I know that sucks but that's the only way you're gonna figure out if it's just variance. Stick with it - if your bankroll can handle it - and it sounds like it can. I know it's tough mentally but you gotta grit your teeth and stay in there until you know for sure. In short, stop being a baby. It's only 40BB and you're only 1-2. :club:

Not sure this will be helpful but try not to play any predetermined certain way. You have to mix it up and most importantly adapt to the opponents you're palying against.

comparing $1-$2 online to $50-$100 live...is that even close? If you are playing $10-$20 live and killing it, you should be able to recognize the sublte differences in the $50-$100 game. Are you playing scared? Afraid to lose is no way to win. That's my guess.

You're probably folding too much in big pots.Also, it's a rare week that I don't have a 40BB downswing. It's a rare month that I don't have a 100BB downswing.It's just poker.PM 50 hands in a row for one session and I'll take a look if you like.
