Looking for a Pro Teacher / Tutor , Offering $5,000.

Allright... You don't need to pay a Top pro for this. There are plenty of players at the 50/100 level that might do this, you just have to find someone who A.) Is willing toB.) Lives near you (or would you travel to vegas?)C.) Can actually teach you something! Don't get ripped off! Make sure you have some kind of agreement that if you're unsatisfied after half the time, he/she gets half or less to make them try harder :DBest of luck.. I know Arieh did lessons, But I think they were group lessons. What is it that you feel you are Missing that a pro will teach you? That's what confuses me the most here, you just trying to accelerate your "player growth" clock?

And im not asking Doyle Bruson , or Hellmuth to come teach me ... just .. someone whos been around the felt, played against top players and won ... Thats all .
This statement could be dangerous. I mean, I know what you're talking about, as in seasoned players that have won consistently against the top players, but someone could take that statement absolutely literally, and you could get anyone from Paul Phillips who has been around the block, or Temperance Hutter, who just got very very fortunate to have the combination of luck and skill at the right time to make a great place at a major event.I'm not bashing your idea though, I think it's a smart idea. I don't know how fortunate you're going to get, but best of luck to you.

No , im not trying to speed up my "Player growth" , that will come naturally .. But theres things you can learn from People , that you cant from books. Sometimes, people express or teach differently irl .. For instance .. Sklansky , his books can be a bit tooooo much at times and it feels like calculus (kidding) ... but along those lines , if I were able to pose my own questions , I would understand it a little bit better. In chess, you could only go so far with books. Books cant evaluate your game for you .. they cant pick up your tells and point them out to you. People CAN do this for me, and thats what Im asking. I think learning from both a person and a book , is better then just learning from a book. And yes , the casinos / clubs have taught me a great deal .. but I dont want to learn from lower caliber players.... It seems like this is a delicate matter for some reason, and Im really not trying to insult people here ... I just want some help.

I suggest a coach for now...http://www.pokercoaching.com/poker_coach_f..._firststeps.aspPrices are good and take it from there. The mentoring you will get will be phone calls, observations online and emails. You will be able to get a lot out of this and it will make you make better decisions when you plunk down $5K for one on one. I know you don't like online play, but this may just be revealing a mistake in your game. Also, these coaches will help you live. I can also ask around NYC (something I've been meaning to do) for some of the better poker teachers.Keep in mind that a great pro is not necessarily a great teacher. That being said, I am tutoring a few poker students (and some more online soon it looks like) and am always interested in finding out the best methods and of course would like to be mentored too!

Watch out for people who post like this. This is just not professional and there is no good reason to think this is a option worth pursuing. Yeah, it might work great, but seriously there are better options than random internet person posting. But, go ahead if you want to IM him... I just think it'd be a waste of time.

Hey Jim....I have a couple of thoughts for you if you do not find exactly what you are looking for.#1 as mentioned before, spend some time in a card room and make some friends. If you have some skills, you will be noticed and you will often find someone to take you under their wing. You should be able to "manipulate" who's wing you go under of you are smart. #2...online poker creates a lot of learning opportunities. You may very well be able to purchase some hand histories from a successful limit or NL player, or they may be willing to let you "railbird" them over their shoulder, etc. If you have some friends that have friends in the poker world, you should be able to find this.I will say this though...the best ways to learn poker is by reading, conversing with others about the game, and taking your lumps on the table. A good player can't teach you everything you need to know in a week, but some hard work and 100k hands will have you well on your way if you are smart and understand the game. You may actually be able to take your 5k, turn it into 25k and have learned the same amount you'd learn in that week with the pro...but with a +30k swing.

I am a member of realpokertraining and it is great stuff for online tourney play. But, I think this is not what the OP wants. I signed up for 6 months for $110 and it's a good deal.Hopefully, it will improve with other areas like ring games etc.

elkangPlease tell me you didn't take me seriously...
I'm sick of stupid jokes that aren't funny. And yeah, some people are serious. It is impossible to judge for certain, content on the internet since so many people are really stupid and you are a new poster. The burden is on you to be clear or at least wittier. Now, we all know it was a joke. I thought it wasn't funny at all and a waste of thread space.
Anyone mention Bill Fillmaff yet?  I hear he has won at least 9 bracelets.
At least this guy is somewhat funny because he himself is a joke. Don't be this guy either though.

Hey ChaserJim, what is your USCF rating? And which GM did you take lessons from? I'm 2160 USCF and 2150 FIDE but haven't played much in the last few years. By the way this is my first post, go me.

You guys are terrible.. I just closed down 2 poker tables so I could play some Chess... Ugh...Chess is an AMAZING game, so indepth... I honestly credited chess for my high ACT ratings that I took as a Sophmore in Highschool, there's something to be said about the analytical thinking, the "level 3" thinking as we say in poker. Chess is just... Important I guess :club:

Not sure why everyone is flaming this post, if he is offer $125/hr that is more than 95% of pros make.(including the guys you see on TV because most of them are broke) Think about it, you would have to be a very successful $75-$150 pro to make $125/hr. The guys is even willing to fly to you!

Hey Jayson, I'm glad I took you away from that time-waster called poker and made you play a real game. haha just kidding, if chess were more profitable it could be as popular as poker, but there's just so much more money in poker. A lot of chess players are very good poker players! I think it just has to do with being smart :club: ChaserJim, Roman Dzindisiderheliuhrlzieuhrliuhrliehwrl I think is his full name. He's an awesome player from what I've heard. Especially blitz chess. Good luck finding a poker coach!

Yep, he is a great player . I beat him in a 5/0 and a 1/0 for cash here in denver, in a blitz and lightning tournament. This was when I was ranked as the top highschool player in Colorado. hehehe my claim to fame.

i just hope dont know what all you are expecting to get from these lessons. That is a lot of money that you are putting out there to learn a few things. Honestly, as many have discussed on this forum many of the tournament players you watch on tv are not incredible cash game players. Ex...Marcel Luske (especially when playing limit)...Men the Master....as well as chip and karina jett (both horrible). If you were to take a class from one of these people who many would consider good pros you would honestly learn nothing that you havent learned from experience as well as books. There isnt this big secret that pros know that makes them professionals. The difference is that they simply put in the hours and have an incredible amount of experience. If you have read all of the books you say you have, a lot of these concepts have been conveyed. If you want to see these concepts put into action then go to vegas and watch one of the larger mixed games at the bellagio. Honestly, i wouldnt waste your money on a weak tournament pro, go play at the bellagio and meet some daily grinders and they will offer advice and talk about concepts with you....no money needed.
