2+2: gus hansen owes 4 million...then skips town.

Recommended Posts

This is posted on 2+2 from one of their posters that has never gotten out of line...the guy seems to have some respect on there.....is this true?"Got this piece of gossip from a touring tournament pro yesterday. Apparently, Gus Hansen owes the "big game" $4 million spread out among a few of the regular players. He has been in Monte Carlo since the Bellagio 25K in order to avoid Doyle and Posse. I guess he is trying hard to make that much on PStars and at European casinos so he can come back and not be an outcast. "

If it is true, I see him paying it back. I figured he wasn't going to be a winner in that game so it's not too far out of line. Either way I wish him the best of luck w/ it.

seems weird.gus has been a professional gambler for a long, long time and supposedly has been very successful at it. it seems weird that he can't take a $4 million hit without having to skip town.

high stakes yahtzee!!!LOL...yeah anyways, what are the chances that we will ever know the whole story of this? i'd say about 10 to 1. not only do i think that if this is true, gus wouldn't want the public to know, but i'd gather the pro poker community as a whole would also not want the public to know, for obvious reasons.

I think in a cardplayer article gus talks about playing either backgammon or chess in new york city for $10k a game.

i've heard this too about the roulette wheel.but the guy who made the original comment specifically said he owes the big game the money. not that he lost it in roulette.

Here's the 2+2 thread.I'll wait and see til there is more info on this rumor. The poster (italianstang) seems reliable - the question is if the pro in question is.

There is serious money in gambling on backgammon. The general is a bet amount per point then half way through the game the option is to either end it there and payout or quadruple the bet amount per point.I would guess the high stakes BG games never end half way and Gus is/was one of the best in the world.

he definately isn't afraid to give action so i wouldn't doubt it if he is stuck big cash to some other pros but of course it's all hearsay to us. what he needs to do is what the smart pros are doing and start writing books, doing endorsements and consulting, or investing in some businesses before the poker boom levels out.

You are relying on information that had Daniel in rehab a few weeks ago everyone! Just a reminder....it may not be true!
Good point. If Newsweek can't be bothered to take the time to get a story right that could get lots of Americans killed and is already responsible for riots and some resulting deaths, then can we really trust a 3rd hand rumor on the internet about a poker player that people seem to either love or hate?

hes been playing on pokerstars constantly.and losing. constantly.
I saw him win about $8,000 last night in about an hour before the table broke up. I haven't been watching him constantly though.
He was a big winner in pl omaha last night But seemed to leak a lot back in the limit games.

It wouldn't surprise me if he really did owe $4 million to players in the big game, but it would surprise me if he had to skip town to build his roll back up to pay it off.The only reason he'd have to skip town is if he blew his entire bankroll, dipped into his reserves, and then lost most of that...I hope he's not that crazy...Then again, he probably is that crazy...I don't know what to think of this whole situation. If it's true, then that partially answers the question of "if all the players in the big game are world class, how does anyone win enough money to justify playing?"

Just a thought, doesn't live in Monte Carlo? He may want to chill until the WSOP and enjoy the fortnight of partying that is centred around the grand prix this weekend and play a little online.
