brvheart 1,752
ZIP 80125. 2003 Ford Explorer, 75,000 miles. My mechanic uses a synthetic blend for my oil, I believe. He recommends changing the oil every 3k miles, but my oil light doesnt' come on until closer to 5k miles. Can I wait closer to 5k miles between oil changes using a synthetic blend?Just curious.Look at your manual. It will almost certainly say 5k between changes. Never listen to the mechanics or tire specialists about PSI or service managers over your manual. The manual is correct, unless it's been recalled.Synthetic blend is ok. Full synthetic is better. brvheart 1,752
I've seen a few of these Caddy's on auto trader in my range of cost and mileage (perhaps there is something wrong with them). Are there any characteristic problems with that model of Caddilac? You would be better served by your money to not buy a 'premium' car. How about a nice Crown Vic or buick?I will hit 188,888 miles on my way home from work today.I know you all care. You don't drive very much.

fryer98 30
You don't drive very much.Funny, I was just thinking that seemed a while to go from 185 to 188+, so I figured it out...3,500 in 3 months, for a 14,000 mile/year pace. My car was sitting still (vacations and in the shop) for 2.5 weeks in this time frame, so...more like 3,500 miles in 9.5 weeks. That's 368 miles/week for a pace of 19,136 miles/year.I've had the car for 79 months and put 126,900 miles on it, for 19,275miles/year.Yea, I'm bored at work.

AmScray 355
Rattling water pump on a Buick.Requires lifting the entire ****ing engine to get around a mount Had to leave that one to the pros. Good news is that both coolant and drive belt needed changing, so I had them do it while they were in there and it didn't cost me anything. $250 all said, new pump, installed, fresh coolant and drive belt swapped out for new. Wee little bounce in the transmission in first gear, but barring that failing, I anticipate being able to drive this one daily until it qualifies for collector plates. Piddle Duck 0
I don't, because I'm not really in that arena. Randy probably does.Oh yeah, that is true.My mom had her car stolen and has been shopping for used cars until the check comes from the insurance company and it looks like Ohio might be where we get her a car since they seem to be much cheaper than around here and I would at least like to get a carfax report on the car since I can't drive it from Ohio to the one mechanic in the whole world I trust down the street. dna4ever 2
99 Isuzu Rodeo 2WD 4 CylinderBrakes have started locking up when it's raining and you hit the brakes fairly hard and also occasionally when it is not raining and you are breaking while going over bumps or divots in the road. The car just slides for about 2 - 3 seconds until the brakes 'catch' and stop. Brakes and rotors appears to be fine and we had the ABS recall fixed several years ago when it came out. After a couple of google searches I've read some similar issues where the remedy was as simple as replacing the front shocks? Would/Could shocks actually have anything to do with the brakes locking up?Here is one of the responses from another forum word for word "Sounds like your problem is with your shocks. Sounds weird but the way ABS works is that it looks for wheel slip. When your shocks are bad, any little bump causes the tires to lose contact with the ground and the ABS sees the speed difference between different tires and reads 'slip'. The grinding noise and the pulsation you feel in the pedal is the ABS pump cycling to pump your brakes. The bad part about 'pumping' is that it almost always increases stopping distance on dry pavement which is why you hit something and messed up your QP."btw that response wasnt direclty to us, we never hit anything, its just a post that was similar to our situation

AmScray 355
Driving around Brookfield, got frustrated that I wound up on a one way, two lane road and needed to turn around, so I slashed a U-Turn and bulldozed a series of surveying stakes in someones yard. I guess one of them nicked my drive belt, because as I was pulling into the parking garage in Oak Park, I lost all power steering and my warning lights lit up... Sure enough, the belt was shredded and I guess it fux0red the power steering pump in some way, too. What a ****ing headache. Beat on the system: When the tow guy came to pick up my car, the garage attendant was so "confused" at this bizarre occurrence of a "car" being "towed" out of the "garage" that she just opened the gate, let us out and neglected to charge the assrape fee for overnight parking. theresa113 0
I am not asking for advice.I am just posting because I am sad. I miss my Beetle. I have hardly any depth perception. I am near sighted. I am an awful driver. Last week I was parking my car in the parking garage at my complex. It is a big garage but because this is such a tall building, there are these huge concrete pillars everywhere. Also, almost every space says compact and even the regular spaces are quite small (Honestly, there seems to be no difference in size but like I said, I have no depth perception.) Well, I was trying to be a good neighbor and not hog up 2 spaces (like everyone else does) so I squeezed all the way over to the left. Well the front part of my car got by the concrete pillar with no issues but I scraped up the entire back fender. While trying to inch my car away from this mess, I scraped the door and dinged up the rocker thing below the door.Originally, they thought when I dropped it off on Monday they could have it back to me on Wednesday. But, the rocker was messed up more than they thought and they are trying to blend the paint. I won't have it til Monday. Lesson: Take 2 spaces. Be nice to my neighbors in another way, like by holding the elevator for them or make them cookies during the holidays.Edit: OK... I am not sad. You should not be sad over a material object. I miss the Beetle because it is fun to drive BUT I have a rent a car that has more cargo space. So instead of moping about something so silly, I will run tons of errands this week and pick up items that would never fit into the Bug. Sorry to bring you down AVS.
