My buddies clutch is going out of his mustang (98, v6 manual trans, 100k miles). Is this a difficult thing to do on your own without a car lift?Edit: Also, about how much might this cost at aamco? Hes gotten quotes of around $600 at a few other places here in town.

Personally I would want a lift if I am replacing a clutch. Or have the car jacked up with 10 jacks since I will be under it for a long time.

Thanks for letting me know that your friend has a manual transmission with that clutch. That was vital info.Also, if you guys buy the clutch at Certified Power in Des Moines it will probably be around $150. To install it you have to remove the transmission, and I would guess it will take anywhere from 4-8 hours if it's the first time your doing it. Also you will NOT under any circumstances want to use jacks. Find some ramps and push (if the car doesn't move) it up on them. I would guess that the labor will be anywhere from $300-$500 at AAMCO. I might be able to get Mike (Glantz in Ames) to give you a discount as well.SIDE NOTE: If you EVER have any work done on a clutch or transmission in ANY car... make SURE that you have your mechanic change the 'rear main seal'. It's one of that most common causes of oil leaks on any car and it only costs like $10 if the transmission is already removed. Don't let them charge you double for the labor.

Brvheart, I just had the oil changed on my 2006 explorer and they could not figure out how to reset the "Oil Change Needed" warning. Ford dealership said they would do it, but I don't want to hassle taking it there. Any clues, or do I need a special tool to do it?

stupid question, but have you checked the owners manual? the directions for my 2002 chevy are in the manual. gotta turn the key and hit the gas three times or something stupid like that.

This.It's different with every car, so first check the manual. I know one of the German cars can only be reset at the dealer with a scan tool, but I would guess that Ford is much easier.

I forget who owns a used car lot on here but I figured I'd post it in this thread. Would anyone with an auction pass be willing to help me get a decent deal? The particular car I'm buying is always retardedly jacked up on price even though I know they'd be making like 6-8k on the car.

I drove my buddy's Subaru Legacy last night. It has a turbo engine and dual clutch transmission or something like that. Anyways, it felt awesome compared to my Accord, lol.That is all. :club:

I haven't been keeping up on this thread, so I know this is a month old. Anyway, I grew up on a farm, far from normal services. And tires sucked in the 70s. They went flat a lot. Like a couple times a year. So my dad knew how to repair and balance tires. And anyone who wanted to drive needed to know how to change a tire.When I went to college, my roommate told me he needed to call a tow truck, because his car was in the parking lot with a flat tire. I asked why he didn't change it, and he said he didn't know how. This was so alien to me, I couldn't even understand it. I was like "jack it up, change the tire, let it down." How complicated is that? He didn't know if he had a spare, or a jack or anything. He did, it was a piece of cake, and he looked at me like I was a magician.It was my first introduction to the real world of suburbia. I think I'm going to make my son take the tires off the car tonight and put them back on, just so he can do it.
Damn, that douche neighbor story is pathetic. I'm under 40, and a five-foot-nothing, 100-pound slip of a girl, and I've changed my own oil and tires -- plus taken apart a door to fix a window that wouldn't roll down properly. Hell, I can also wire up an electrical outlet. It's just stupid not to be handy at things. The world isn't run on elfin freaking magic.

Hey brvheart. I have a 2003 C230 Kompressor. I need to replace the 02 sensors. I just talked to my mechanic, and he said there are 4 of them and they are about $200 a piece. Can this be correct? Every time I have ever needed an 02 sensor even for past BMW's there was 1 and it was like $60.Could this be crazy markup because he gets parts from a dealership?

$200 for the job total is more like it. Or you can probably do it yourself, depending where they're located.I thought you were FRIENDS with your mechanic?

Sorry I haven't been around for the last week, but that is outrageously overpriced. Buy them from piddle's link or somewhere else and then take them to him. He is definitely buying them from the dealer and then doing his standard markup. He probably doesn't even know what the internet is.

Dear Mr. Brvheart,I need to replace the shocks on my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. It is a 4WD 6 cylinder vehicle. Apparently I can get shocks for as little as $10 up to hundreds of dollars. I do not 4 wheel drive really and do not need the Cadillac of shocks, but would like a nice reliable median grade shock. What would your recommendation be?Sincerely,dna4ever
