You might be thinking about The Godfather.

That word had no special meaning where I was at.
guess it is just a canadian thinghttp://forums.prisonofficer.org/general-co...ison-slang.htmlits the 8th definition down in first post...also seventh post down has a more indepth definition of it (also mentions it as an instant unavoidable fight/paraphrase) i still cant find the origin of why such a seemingly unimpressive word carries so much weight inside.all i ever was able to figure out was noone knows where it started, and u only said it to someone if u wanted to fight them, pretty much everytime u saw themthe more you know kids.....lolwas an interesting day,my first week in.when i was told i MUST fight that guy who just called me a goof(cause other people heard it lol..was told if noone hears it its a judgement call on you as only you and the guy who said it know and its your word against his.. loooooooool),unless i wanted to be known as the range punk/bitch...and all the wonderful things that come with being bestowed such a lovely title for the rest of my stay.and so i did, ended up taking a slight beating from a man ape not unlike the one pictured earlier in the thread after basically being peer pressured/goated into a fight i had no clue why i was participating in,other then i was called a word that meant nothing to me 3 days ago.i take much joy in the fact that on the day of my release i walked into his cell right after the doors popped for the day and, beat him with a sock filled with this cup we were each given (looked and felt like glass, quite heavy, but was literally unbreakable) until he was snoring...no joke he seemed asleep.out cold just snoringand to be honest he was a punk on his own anyways,i didnt even need the weapon, jus wasnt sure if he had one (was actually told he probably did...bettter safe then stabbed ) but he was a wannabe shot caller in front of his crew, but when he saw me walk into his cell he started saying something as if he wanted to talk....far from how he reacted in front of his "crew" when i crossed some percieved line of his that i wasnt yet aware of.....and unlike most things inside, this was not common sense, stay below the radar and have normal social skills and ull be fine type thing, this was power tripping monkey "running his range" how he saw fitid like to think i changed him somehow, but i dount he even remembers me...jus another day in the life for his type....and that was the scariest thing how they mixed us all together, from thefts to murder cases....how can such events be avoided in such a system...they cant, and it disgusts me everytime i think back on itim retarded i cant make my link work, here it is if u wanna copy and past...lts the 8th definition downhttp://forums.prisonofficer.org/general-co...ison-slang.htmlmeanwhile ill keep trying to fix the regular linkEDIT: I think they work now,but couldnt name them

Did they test for HIV or offer education on STD and HIV prevention?I wrote a paper on that issue for summer school this year.
All that was done prior to being sentenced and was on what they call your "pre sentencing report". Anyone who had a communicable disease of any kind was usually assigned carefully, as there was a case in my state a few years prior to my deal where a middle-class type kid was in for some drug charge and wound up getting an AIDS monkey as a cellie. There was debate as to whether he was raped, coerced, or voluntarily engaged in sexual activity with the guy, but either way, he left the joint with his ass infected and needless to say, wealthy mommy and daddy raised absolute hell with every elected official they could corner.

Read through this whole thing. Great thread. Sorry to hear that you had to go to prison.Anyway, what were your first thoughts when you realized you were going to spend the next few years in prison? Waht your thoughts when you actually got there? Did you make "friends" right away? On your first time during breakfast, lunch or dinner did you just sit anywhere or did you have to sit where you were told?

Fascinating read. But seriously, how many times were you awake till 2am waiting on your cellie to start snoring so you could whack it? And when you finally got to whack it, did you fantasize about your normal fantasy girls (movie stars or models or porn stars or whatever) or did you fantasize about your girlfriend?

The realization of the inevitability of prison came once I heard how badly hurt the individual was. There was pretty much no question at that point. You resolve the inevitability in your mind fairly early in the process... You start doing the math, trying to comprehend 'how long 5 years really is'. "OK, so, 5 years ago, I was dating Kelly and living in Rogers Park..." then you think of all the events that occurred between that point and now. Then you imagine spending that amount of time in prison. Far and away, the worst part is not knowing. Sentencing is the best and worst day, in that you will finally know and the fear of the unknown will be gone, but until that judge utters the final sentence, nothing is over.
Waht your thoughts when you actually got there?
"Oh. So this is prison..."
Did you make "friends" right away?
I did, but in this respect, I was lucky. Lots of people don't make any trustworthy friends at all.
On your first time during breakfast, lunch or dinner did you just sit anywhere or did you have to sit where you were told?
I just sat at a table full of 'regular white guys'. It was obvious what tables you didn't want to sit at, what tables were reserved for the freaks or pariahs, etc.

Definitely prone to fantasizing about real world sexual encounters while I was locked up, as opposed to when you're out, one might be more prone to fantasizing about "fantasy" type stuff.

One thing I haven't really seen asked or addressed is finances. I'm not talking about how the joint affects your credit I'm just talking about bills. I always think that if I were to get locked up or a family member I mean how do the bills get paid? Is there some specific plan that is laid out or is your family allowed to take care of all your bills. The same thing with rent and car payments I mean who takes care of that when you can't even communicate with any of the institutions to tell them you're in the joint. Would be interesting if there was a hold put on all bills and debt once you entered prison to be immediately reinstated when you got out. Sadly I think about these things because I'm a ridiculously nitty jew who has all my finances particularly how I want them. I would be a goner in prison.

There is no "plan" for that, as far as some external mechanism of social policy. You either have people on the outside who are willing to mind your financial affairs (usually family) and as a result, those things are still waiting for you when you get out, or if you don't have such resources, you lose it all. House and contents, car, credit- all of it. Gone. Insanely common amongst guys inside. One old guy who was a lifer always talked about the house he used to have that he figured 'went for taxes' since he didn't have any family to take it over.

Surprised at the quick answer, but I kinda figured this was the most likely result. Kinda makes you think that one day everything you worked for your entire life could be taken away because of one mistake.

Do they have the same "gangs" in medium security as they do in Maximum? Which ones did they have at your facility? Did you ever consider joining such a gang?
Yes, but the gang activity wasn't as intense as it is in max institutions, where it's pretty much the prevailing theme for everything. There were gang members inside, but it was more like 'ridiculously loyal cliques'

I was chatting with a friend of mine. His best friend went to prison and lost a ton of weight and came out totally jacked. Is it true prison does the best job in the world of preserving the human body? Thanks in advance,Joe
There is basically no way to come out of prison totally jacked, unless you do roids. The food they give you is enough sustenance to live, not to put on 30 lbs of muscle.

I don't know about 'best job in the world', but the whole thing about long termers being remarkably preserved is absolutely true. You can't drink, dope is very, very scarce, no sodas or extensive access to crap foods- all there is to do is sit around and hit the iron pile or work out in your cel- you're basically forced to keep your physical condition in a higher order due to safety concerns. Long timers repeat this routine for decades, which has a definite positive impact on their health and physical standing in later life... I lost a shitload of weight when I was in; since gained it all back, but yeah, it's true. There are guys in there who are 60 with the bodies and 'quickness' of 25 year olds.

What are the Guards Like? For the most part, total retards. Prison Guard is a profession that scrapes the absolute bottom of societies barrel. You're more likely to find a generally higher caliber man amongst the inmates than you are amongst the guards. There are exceptions to this, but for the most part, they're people who wouldn't be qualified to be assistant manager at a fast food place.
As a former "guard," (they like to be called Correctional Officers or C/O) I can confirm that they are about the same class as the inmates. Several of my former co-workers had family members (up to 7), and good friends etc. in the same jail as they worked. I often wondered about some of them, if something went down in a module (cell block), could I count on them to be on my side, or would they join the inmates. Meanwhile, there are some really good people that had some misfortune that are behind bars.
You could, but it was loud and when they did bed checks, they shined the light in your cel so you had to sleep on your side. If a guard didn't like you or your cellie, he'd "ping" your cel when he walked by every 1/2 hour, which means he'd bang his maglite against the bars and you'd wake up every 1/2 hour. There was this retard two down from us who got pinged all the time.
That is some messed up stuff, I honestly never thought of doing that or heard any other C/O's talk about doing that. The doors into the modules at the jail I worked were loud enough to wake everyone up every time they were opened anyway (every 25 minutes). Not that AmScray needs my validation but everything he has posted has coincided with my experience from the other side. Did most guards treat you with respect, and did most inmates treat them with respect, or was there generally mistrust and anger between the groups?Great thread.
