I think there needs to be a small white truck parked next to the scene of the accident, watching but not participating.

How was the crowd for The Lovely Bones?

That's how I felt when I saw Gangs of New York, followed closely by City of God. DDL is fantastic in Gangs, but the movie didn't do much for me. City Of God though, that's the real thing.     I don

now that is a movie i want to see. keira knightley gets my engine running. she's in that movie, right?
Correct. Her hair's not so good, but for some reason she does look really good. Her role reminds me a smidge of Helena Bonham Carter's in Fight Club.

I saw the alternate ending of that movie years ago, but I don't really remember how/why it was more dark than the original. It's been years since I've seen that movie, so I remember my reaction to it more than I remember the details of it.

Beasts of the Southern WildBasic plot: follows a father and daughter, with bits of magical storytelling. This is a great movie, and should be in the top of the year. It follows the a group of people living in the Mississippi delta. The group doesn't live with society, but deliberately past it. Most times when I see a movie with desperately poor people, living a subsistance life, most of the story is about their struggle to better their living situation. This movie is about people an inch from oblivion, and how they live every day--and the types of extraordinary, magical events that would be required to change their lives in a positive way. This movie has gotten a lot of attention out of Sundance, and is playing in limited release. It's really worth it to see on the big screen. The visuals are stunning, with only a few smaller budget related bumps.Party GirlI saw it last night at a Cinefamily screening, with the director present. I hadn't seen it in 10+ years. I think Parker Posey's face looks like Kristen Bell's face. Posey still owns the movie, she's clearly the star, and the energy and music hold up well.

Margin CallReally liked it a lot, definitely in my top 5 of the year.
...I also watched (after buying) margin call. such a good movie. looks at the whole 08 collapse through the actual eyes of people involved, and portrays them as people, not as evil capitalist monster pigs like so many people want to paint them. so many parts of it are awesome in explaining people's motivations in these scenarios, but I think I liked paul bettany's/emmerson's speech in the convertible towards the end: "nah. they're all fucked."
These guys know what's up. Great movie. I was pretty much riveted the whole time. Although unlike Shake, not sure I'd want to have that kind of career.

Drive - Soundtrack was pretty gay; Plot was OK; somewhat overstylized, but some pretty good cinematography; the transition to ultra-violence seemed forced. There just didn't seem to be any real reason to pan down to that guy's caved-in face. The implication and Preston's reaction shots were, I thought, evocative enough without having to resort to graphic. Overrated, but still worth a look.6.5/10Contagion - I Like Soderbergh. I enjoy germ movies. This one was a shade better than OK. I didn't feel invested in or affected by (what shoud have been) a story filled with emotion. Part of this can be atttributed to SS's clinical execution and deliberate distancing techniques. Some scenes really worked, while others left me feeling like I should have been emotionally impacted, but I wasn't. Haywire was better.6/10

Romans 921 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?22 What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction?

The Dark Knight RisesEh. It was okay. I really didn't love it very much. There's a decent amount of reasons I'm not going to go into. Good movie? Yes. Nowhere near a great one though.

I disagree. I was completely entranced the entire time. I wasn't very excited to see it from merely the trailers, but after watching I'm singing its praises.Going to get to finally see Moonrise Kingdom later this week and follow that up with Safety Not Guaranteed, starring Aubrey Plaze. Love Aubrey Plaza. On another unrelated note, the Superman trailer is very interesting.

Pretty much. I rewatched Begins the other day, and liked it a lot more than I thought I did.

I thought the Superman trailer was stupid too! The Hobbit looks good, was the only trailer I was even mildly interested in.One of my friends felt the same way as you about TDKR. It just seemed like there were a lot of...not plot holes, but plot decisions that didn't make the most sense. The football field explosion would have been more awesome if it wasn't the main trailer scene. Bane's voice wasn't great. Couple plot twists were good. I don't know a lot about the original storyline, but as I understand it, it makes a lot more sense in the comic books.I'll watch it again in a few months, maybe I'll like it more. I did like the ending a lot.

I love love love Batman Begins. I knew Nolan was special when I saw that movie. The only reason The Dark Knight is better, by an incredibly thin margin, is because: Heath Ledger.

I saw rises and I really enjoyed it. I thought the story they told was rather.. ambitious to bring to screen. Also...

I did not see the Talia twist coming, and I felt really, really stupid when it happened, because I felt I should have. Of course she was Talia. God, I'm a dope. That said, someone who is not familiar with her from the comics must have thought that twist was kind of gimmicky.

It's hard for me to judge where I place this in comparison to begins and TDK. I will say, I don't think there's a (traditional) super hero movie that comes close to the quality of these three movies. Nolan is an expert at keeping several different balls in the air at the climax of a movie.

Also, I loved Bain's voice. I thought it was a bizarre counterpoint to his brutal exterior. It made him even more disconcerting of an opponent.
agree 100% with this. While these movies will inevitably be compared against each other, I think we should just look at the series as a whole and just say how much of a God Nolan is

When they showed them getting together at Wayne Manor and flashed her scar, I guessed it was Talia. However, after I heard her name again and the movie progressed, I thought I was mistaken. Did guess that she probably had the detonator. Definitely didn't figure out that she was the kid that escaped from the prison.
