Watched Moonrise Kingdom (2012) for the first time ever last week and was absolutely blown away. Tremendous film, easily makes my top 5. When I finished, I immediately started it over and watched it a second time.
Other movies I saw:
Ford v Ferrari
Knives Out

I think there needs to be a small white truck parked next to the scene of the accident, watching but not participating.

How was the crowd for The Lovely Bones?

That's how I felt when I saw Gangs of New York, followed closely by City of God. DDL is fantastic in Gangs, but the movie didn't do much for me. City Of God though, that's the real thing.     I don

Greenland - big gerard butler fan, as you know. really good movie. really well done, i would give it 4/5 stars.  really love movies this like.

The Tomorrow War - it was fine. could have been better. I kind of feel like Chris Pratt mailed it in, but maybe he was going for understated. i won't go into the plot holes, but there were a few big ones.

The worst movie I've seen recently is The Midnight Sky.  Clooney should be ashamed of that mess.  (His acting is fantastic.  His direction is horrific.)

I haven't even heard of either of those movies you mentioned.  I'll check out Greenland.

Watched 'Parasite' recently, and although I haven't actually seen any of the films it beat out for best picture I think it's probably deserved. I've loved all of Bong Joon-Ho's prior films for their uniqueness and absurdism and this was no exception. The best I've heard it described is as a more perfect version of Snowpiercer. Highly recommended.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was miles better than Parasite.

well said my dear departed friend. once upon a time in hollywood should have swept the oscars that year.

i watched sinners and one battle after another again.  one battle is so much better is laughable sinners was even considered.

somehow i hadnt seen three billboards outside ebbing and so i watched that. great movie. would have been a much more deserving best picture winner than the shape of water, but of course DUNKIRK was easily the best movie of that year. the academy really makes a fool of itself non stop.

TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA

what a great movie. i dont know how i hadnt seen it or even (i dont think) ever heard of it before this.  movies of today can never compete with movies of the 80s and 90s. its just not possible, life was simply better back then.

i couldnt believe what happened to Chance, didnt see it coming.

Classic John Wayne film i found on amazon prime. i enjoyed it like most of his movies, but i thought the end was rushed. then i read the wiki and it turns out a stunt guy died doing a horse jump near the end so the director scrapped the planned ending. wild stuff.

I havent made the commitment to watch the brutalist yet. just havent felt the calling.

watched THE IRISHMAN again last night. i liked it more this time than the first two. i still think they should have cast Leo as the younger Shearan and got someone to play the younger Buffalino for a few scenes. Probably let Pacino do the whole Hoffa part.

If you get Leo for the younger part you might have one of the all timers on your hands.

I really wish I'd seen the brutalist in theater in as big of screen as possible because it's shot beautifully. It's a very long story, and not exactly an uplifting tale but it is superbly written and acted and looks gorgeous. I can't get over it, I've been thinking about it all day.

i'm going to miss chris ryan month. so nice to have only good movies as the choices and only the core team on there, like the old days.

Most fun I’ve had with a recent movie is Send Help. Should be coming out streaming soon. Unhinged Rachel McAdams action

25th Hour.

Not sure how i hadnt seen it before, it was really great. It really is amazing the world before iphones and social media, just seeing that in movies from those days is so awesome to see. they did a really great job of portraying the melancholy of a world where the light was about to go out and that desire to run away and find someplace else. but you know you can't, no matter how much you want to.  felt that way all of my life despite the truth that i could run away whenever i want to.

There's Something About Mary

Watched it so i could listen to the rewwatchables. holds up really well, still very funny. i think it helped it had been god only knows how long since i had seen it. i have to agree with them, i appreciated Matt Dillon way more this time than i did 25 years ago.

STRIKING DISTANCE

they just don't make movies like this anymore and we're all worse for it. really makes me wish i'd been pittsburgh river police back in the 80s/90s before society was ruined. especially if they give a partner like a young SJP. she really had me going last night.

THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES.

watched it with my mom yesterday. i hadnt seen it in forever and i still greatly enjoyed it and think its really good. she was less than impressed and was not at all convinced that the mothman is out there trying to warn us.  but i still believe.

i thought it did a really good job of using the camera to make it feel like someone is watching you. like this shot from the beginning.
