Did anyone other than me waste their money on this movie this weekend?Just curious what you all thought....
It wasn't great, and it wasn't awful. It just was... I'd like 1/2 my money back please. The best parts were when Drew was in a scene.

It pulled $2.7 million in its first weekend, which puts it below Gigli ... tough company to be in.A coworker actually said he saw rumors that they wanted the release it the same weekend as a blockbuster (spiderman 3) because they were hoping to get the overflow from people who got shut out of sold out showings of the big movie.

As I was watching this movie, I was regretting the fact I forgot to bring a leash ... then I could have at least taken this dog for a walk :D ... almost painful. The directors seem blissfully unaware of poker and treat it like scenery. There is no flow, no elements of interest.I did not like it :club: , but not enough to recommend any movie viewers to demand to be paid minimum wage to watch it.The directors, the screenwriters, and ultimately the producers (for not having the guts to use an axe) are to blame for this sorry effort. If shortly you hear a muffled *boom* outside your home, that will be the sonic boom as this film moves past pay channels and goes directly to DVD, in its journey to the $9.99 shelf.Too bad really, I was expecting a LOT better. Maybe it was "Lucky You", but it was not lucky to pick this movie to see.

I just really liked that it was set in real Vegas as opposed to a studio somewhere. It was cool to point out the different things we saw while we were there. I'm officially addicted to Vegas. It was also VERY cool to have an inside view of Bobby's Room, and all the high stakes pros playing.

How realistic were the hands? Hopefully not as absurd as the hands in Casino Royale.Does anyone remember the (horrible) movie Maverick with Mel Gibson? The end, when he somehow wills his draw card to be the winning ace of spades - If I had been the director I would have made that card the 9 of spades.

spoilerat the final table robert duval leads out on an all club board and gets called - the turn is a club - he checks and then calls a 400k bets and yes hits his one outer straight flush on the rivernot to mention the other player when it is checked to her goes all in with the K of clubs which is hardly smart against the best player in the world

I read somewhere that Doyle Brunson scripted most, if not all, the hands in the movie... so blame Doyle if you didn't like it... anyhow, I never build up huge expectations for any movie, therefore I thought it was alright. It could've been better, but I wasn't too disappointed.

I haven't seen Casnio Royale, and I am not sure about Mavrick, but the hands in this movie were so extremely predictable it was almost funny...but not quite, still boring.I was really disappointed in just about every aspect of this movie. I was really hoping for something good for the poker world.

I doubt they were realistic. But this movie probably wasn't intended to be just for poker players. They producers probably wanted to have dramatic hands for the people that came to the movie to watch the love story between Barrymore and Bana, so at least they would be entertained during the card scenes, even though poker players would realize that they are unrealistic. Most people who went to see Casino Royale didn't go for the poker scenes. When they saw the last hand, when Bond beat two full houses and the second nut flush with his straight flush, they were probably really excited even though that would never happen.

Frankly I thought that the best part of the movie wasn't even about poker. It was quite remarkable that he was able to run 5 miles and then play an entire round of golf in three hours and two seconds. I mean seriously he shot a 78. Who gives a damn about the extra two seconds. The sad thing was that stupid breezy Drew Barrymore ratted him out, and he lost ten grand for it. In the words of someone much wiser than I, "**** is weak."

Please don't comment on what happened in the movie, unless you saw the movie. The poker scenes were quite realistic. I kept waiting for something completely retarded to happen, ala Casino Royale, and it never did. Save maybe the hand vs his Dad in the WSOP, or the straight flush hand, the rest were completely standard, and well played, imo. On the SF hand though, don't forget, you usually need a nice 1 or 2 outer to add drama to the poker sections. You can't just have a guy whose hands hold up every time, or whatever, lol.

I like at the beginning where he's playing limit. The board is 7899J (or something like that), some guy bets the river, huck raises the river after giving some retarded lecture, guy folds, and huck shows 35s (no flush draw). :club:

lol, I got so confused at that part, cuz I figured he'd be playing NL, and he made a minraise... I was about to give up on the movie at that point.

You guys seem unaware that it was Doyle Brunsson that wrote ALL the poker hands that happened in the movie. Now he should know a thing or two...

although not to pay 400K for a 1 outeranyone notice that it is apparently mandatory in this movie that when you bet you spill your stack across the table - not a person bets without doing it

...about poker, I doubt if he knows the equivilant of 7/2o in terms of developing a compelling scene for a movie.
