doyle brunson and crew cheap?

Recommended Posts

I was playing 3-6, holdem at the local B&M last night. The gentleman next to me was a dealer at the Sands back in the day. He related to me that Doyle and the other pros are so cheap that not only would they not tip the dealers, but they would give the fish a tough time for doing so. They wanted all the money for themselves...

I don't necessarily disagree with pros not tipping. These guys are playing to make their living and why should they be giving any of it away for free? I'm not sure what a tip would be like at a 4k/8k game but it could seriously cut into your earn rate.

I can understand the pros not tipping on some level, but to tell the rest of the folks at the table not to is going a wee bit too far.

If you play in a B&M casino, tip. If you dont want to tip, play in home games or online.I'm pretty suprised to hear that Brunson or other pros dont tip. I dont think it would cut into the money they win that much at all. They dont have to tip $200 or something insane for every hand they win. For a high limit like that maybe they should just bring some $5 chips along soley for the purpose tipping. Most people tip way too much at the low limit tables (3/6 and others).Does anyone have any information about the big game where the limits are really high? Is there tipping in that game, or is the dealer just paid at a higher rate? Just curious.

From what I've heard, the dealers just rotate around the floor, and the big game is just another one of their tables. Also, most dealers don't like dealing the big game because the don't get tipped as well as at the lower limit games, and the players get really p*ssed if they make any mistakes.

First of all, I tip. In fact I usually tip too well when there is a dealer at my table who is nice, does their best to run a good game and brings something positive to the table. I've tipped $5 a win at 4/8 limit to a couple dealers who I thought were genuinely deserving of it.Having said that, since when was tipping considered mandatory? The dealers are paid to deal, you pay rake to play. Why is there this unspoken rule that you HAVE to tip more. No where is it less acceptible to not tip than in casinos, I find. I have no problem with people who tip and I have no problem with people who don't but I do have a problem with anyone who EXPECTS to get a tip. If they earn it, I'll make sure that they know it. If they don't, I simply won't toke 'em when I collect a pot.Further, if I were a pro and playing poker was my source of income I would be very hesitant to tip dealers. Do you tip your boss everytime he gives you a paycheque? Or do you tip the person in payroll who processed it? These guys are playing to put food on the table and I don't know why someone else thinks they are entitled to a cut of that.Tipping should be left up to the person giving/not giving the tip. And it's true, no player should berate another who does tip, that's not cool either. But it urks me when someone thinks they are entitled to a tip. In my world, that's the WORST way to get a tip from me.

I think Daniel said the dealers that do the Big Game get a rotation bonus when they rotate. The dealers are just upset because they expect a $500 chip or two coming their way because of the altitudes they are dealing at

Nobody seems to want to address the issue I brought regarding the fact that not only don't they tip, but discourage the NON-pros from tipping. In front of the dealer.
do you know why? because you have no fucking idea whether or not your fairy tale story is true or not, get a clue, 99% of us don't care, and the other 1% are ordering pattern mappers.

Do you think they could have some sort of deal: a tin foil hat half off with every pattern mapper?

What's the average tip to a dealer? I doubt it's that big. Now think about the 4-8k games, what is the lowest chip denomination they play with there? That would be a nice tip to get one of those chips.

I tip on monster pots.Bottom line is it should be the casinos responsibility to pay the dealers their wages.

at the 4k-8k table there is no chip less than 4k what are you going to toss 4 k because the dealer remembered to deal the cards get real.Real Pros dont tip its a fact it cuts into their earn rate and hurts. Plus no dealersits for an extended period of time so at the games break they dont know if maybe DN gives a couple of hundred to the Pit Boss after the night. this thread Hurt My brain to think that your all so ignorant tipping dealers is fine for guys like us who play for fun but when you do it for a living thats different. Do you tip the guy who transfers your calls everytime he does his job right?you would make alot less per hour no?

read somewhere that they use $1 chips for this game for security purposes, then just write cheques for winnings and losings.  no source on that though.
that's only when they take the game on the road. Daniel wrote about that in one of his blogs. He said that Gus acted as the banker on the time that he mentioned. It was also that night when he popped the stuck for a million cherry. To those who said if you don't want to tip a dealer then play at home, please. If you are caring about your bottom line then don't tip, its not mandatory. I also get angry when people bitch about a player not leaving extra after they win a tourny like John Stolzman or Arnold Spree. Money is taken out of the purse to begin with and unless ad money starts to get included in prize purses and the players themselves are paying the entire purse then you can do whatever you want with your own $$$, you earned it and noone has any right to judge

i tip...even overtip dealers at times...but im not a pro ..i could see a pro's point of view..i play all night to make cash, not give it away...but i also see the human side of it " how about a little something for the ..you know effort" <in my best bill murry in caddy shack impression>

I've worked in the bar industry in the past, so by nature I've become probably too generous a tipper. I read somewhere once that there was a joke that in NYC there's $1 million that doesn't really belong to anybody, it just keeps getting passed between bartenders.I can't really say what I'd do if I played at that level. I don't play for a living. I'd like to think that I'd probably make my tipping decision at the end of the night. If I happened to win 200k then it wouldn't kill me to kick the guy $500, but if I lost 200k then don't go looking for a tip from me.

no reason a pro cant take a rack of 5 dollar chips and throw them at the dealer when they win a pot, these guys blow their nose on 5 dollar bills.
and they snort with 100s

My father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate told me that same story! For real, man. Even if they act like jerks at the table does that mean Super System is a bad book? No, they're just poker icons. They're not heroes.
