Hey guys. I want to be a dealer. I am still young so I still have a while. I really love Poker. If I am a dealer I will obviously have easier ways to play Poker. Can someone just send me to some website, or tell me about it. Thanks guys!!Ja

umm.. you're 15.... so even if you did want to, how COULD you be a dealer?
In his original post he made the statement to the fact that he is still young and has some time. He is merely trying to find out how one becomes a dealer, at such a time that he is old enough. Justin

Poker dealing can be a great job. For me its a natural extension of my hobby/obsession.First order a set of plastic KEM cards and The Professional Poker Dealer's Handbook by 2+2=4Publishing (www.twoplustwo.com). Read that book and practice right. You need someone to make sure you are working on the right skills and not missing anything. The key to dealing is accuracy, integrity (good technique that protects the integrity of the game) and lastly speed. There are dealer schools too, but you just need some good guidance and a fair amount of practice.I started via local underground poker rooms... gl to you.

Not to encourage adolescent mischief...but the age thing is a detriment, but not a dealbreaker. Most likely it will be a slow path to becoming a dealer. Some advice... don't break any laws, so that when you can apply for a gaming card it'll be easy, and work on your skills now and for the next xx years.

I saw a post like this a while back and a dealer answered, he said that most likely you would have to start dealing Blackjack and work your way up to Poker, also as a new dealer you will get all the crappy shifts where there aint a lot of players, however that was Vegas, if you have a local casino (dont know US state laws) call them or go there and ask them.

Thanks a lot guys! I know I am young, but I am willing to sit through it. I love Poker as much as you guys, but I don't get to play a lot. When we play with my friends, I usually deal the whole thing for practice. On TV I have picked up small things. Make sure people are going during their turn, Check when you deal the next card so that is saying the pot is good or something, burning cards, how to hold the cards, and other small things. Thanks a lot yous guys!

how much generally do dealers make at local card rooms??i'm sure this depends on the limits at the table, where the higher the limit, the higher the tips... it seems like dealers make a lot in tips though. can someone fill me in? do they get paid the minimum per hour [lets say a new dealer] plus all the tips?

I asked dealers at casino morongo in california. They get paid minimum wage plus tips. One dealer told me he's left with as little as 50 bucks in tips after a night or as much as 2k in one night

well, you could try going to a local casino and seeing if they have some type of preferred dealer training school or something like that.
Good first post... much more informative than asking DN a stupid question like the rest of the newb douches.... well played.

An exboyfriend of mine deals at the Trop in Atlantic City. He was making like a salary of 28K a year plus like a $2500 tip check at the end of the month when they split the tips. They take in all dealer tips and pool them. Dealers are not allowed to keep personal tips there.

What you make depends on where you work. At Canterbury in MN, dealers keep their tips and can make upwards of 50K a year, plus they have the opton of acting as shills when the games get short, .ie. they can play on the clock if asked, but they use their own money. Also as tipping goes, generally the lower the limit the better the tips, because at higher limits people play as a job and tipping big really cuts into their hourly rate so they usually just tip a dollar every pot, while tourists and rec. players tip huge at lower limits cause they are there to have fun. I would suggest getting to know some people who either host home games that take a rake or own underground clubs. I know there are both in Alabama, especially in B'ham. Also, if you want to deal in Ala, before you become 21 learn to deal Omaha well.

You do realize that you'll have to deal all kinds of games, not just NLHE right? I mean, do you even have the basic undestanding of PL or Triple Draw?I understand you can learn all of these, but its much easier to learn to deal the game if you understand how to play.

Most dealers dont know how to deal Triple Draw, even in places where its spread. In fact most can barely deal Omaha or Stud. In these games the players pretty much control the dealer.

If you really want to be successful at dealing (or anything else) learn exceptional customer service. Learn how to create an inviting and controlled table. It is a hard balance. You want to make everyone feel welcomed and at the same time have enough assertiveness to keep the table running smoothly. Practice composure at every opportunity. Learn to get along with people you do not like.A winning personality will make you lots of money.

I agree that this has been an issue of late. I would speculate that it has to do with the amount of young NLHE tv players making thrie play at being around poker 24-7. In the old days, the dealers knew what was going on. Old days being pre-2002 or so.

This is a good post! When I play in home games I love to deal. I have thought about dealing at my local casino part time, I know some of the dealers from our home games and they seem to enjoy dealing for the most part. So BamaFan2989 I would encourage you to learn all you can, (keep it legal).
