What Makes A Good Online Player

Recommended Posts

I'm a good live player (I think) I make good money playing at casino's but it would be nice to make money at home online. One problem is I suck online. I see alot more hands but I dont see this as advantage for me. I like to break down their play and remember how they play. This seems impossible online due to the huge turnover attables and the speed of the game. Also no faces to remember. So if you are a good online player let me know what skills I need to work on to improve my results. I only play NL, maybe online limit is better? People of the forum let me know.

It's harder to focus online because you can get so distracted by IMs and forums like FCP, but if you can learn how to focus and pick up on things online, it'll help not only your online game, but your live game as well. You dont need a face to pick up on tells.

It's easier to pick up tells live.

Pure and simple, live games have worse players than online. A player could conceivably be able to beat a live game and not be able to beat the tougher competition online. If you want to make online more like live you could try playing one table at a time adn trying to focus on observing your opponents and their tendencies.

use PokerTracker and a program like PokerHUD that shows you their stats while you play. It won't bee too reliable at first but when the # of hands builds up it really comes in handy.
I couldn't agree more. I use poker office, which I find invaluable to give you as much information as possible to allow you to make decisions. I haven't used poker tracker, but I imagine the 2 are fairly equivalent. As stated earlier, online it is so easy to become distracted and miss vital bits of information. I only play one table at a time and I replay every hand that goes to a showdown using poker office..it provides useful info re how players play certain hands.Good luck

watch out for collusion teams and poker botsonline poker is a big pyramid scheme, only the numbers are bigger. No skill game because any 2 cards all in preflop can win (and do). all the donk suckouts equalize any skills you may have. play texbook harrington and you have some advantages, but mostly a donkey farm especially in turbo sng's

I second what the CinciKid said. 1/2 NL game at your local card room is way softer than 1/2 online.
