Perception Of Internet Players

Recommended Posts

Oh and to comment on the original topic, most of the online players are pretty much donkeys well... maybe I'm being a stereotype which is what has become of the 'Internet Player'. I don't think it'll ever change. Though there are alot of good online players the bad ones overlap them by a wide margin. [maybe i'm totalling wrong on that statement. But from what information I have that's my opinion]

Not everyone has class on the golf course either (John Daly)So the guy playing poker swings a chair over his head like an idiot. He represents society. Not all of it is good.

Yeah, you must have Eli figured out by now. I mean, geeze, youve probably seen ONE WPT even he won a few years back and that was a TOURNAMENT strucuture, and then you saw him play like what, 5 hands on HSP? WOW! You guys have him down, he must suck, even though he ihas been playing the BIG GAME for many many years now. Hmmm...seems like you got him down though, go challenge him heads up! :club: Seriously, give credit where credit is due. And no, I don't love Eli.
I've thought for quite a while now that if there is a regular donator in the big game it's probably Eli. I say this b/c he's known to be a successful business man and probably could afford to be a losing player in the big game. I could be way off base though. I'm just using logic here, I don't claim to have any real knowledge of his poker game or results.

I think you're preaching to the choir here. When I step into a casino, the first thing I look for is other internet players, since they are almost certainly better players than the casino regulars.
I agree with this. I started out playing live in casinos about 8 years ago and have only started playing on the Internet since Jan of this year and your statement is entirely spot on in my opinion.

I think online players are very good but when online players make the switch to live game, there game can be affected if they have no live game experience.I started playing live then made a switch to online and it has vastly improved my games just with the shear number of hands dealt and seeing different hand scenarios such as flushes being beat by boats. I don't play much live to see these types of hands more often. Some online players will have to make adjustmentsplaying live with tell recognition and body language etc. Live games you play the player more than just betting patterns online.

I agree. On-line gaming allows you to see a variety of hands and styles, however some aspects of the live game are lost on guys who rarely or never play in "real life". Some of these things are often discounted by the on-line players, but can be important and are relatively easy to spot. Some of the social asppects of the game can be lost on on-line players. Interaction. Simple engaging conversation. Physical chip management. Body language. SPLASHING THE POT!!! How (and sometimes when) to bluff. Even reading the final board without the computer telling you the final hand outcome is sometimes tricky for even very good on-line players who have become reliant on the computer telling them the outcome and other things like statistics such as pot and stack sizes.Again, this is in NO WAY an indictment of ALL or limited to on-line players.

lol at the guy using a 10 dollar SnG to verify the quality of internet players, at those levels the majority of players are either teens or people new to the game. I've played 10/20 online as well as in a cardroom and have to say their really isn't a big difference in quality of player. Guys who moan about this need to step up their game or give it a rest.

i would take Gigabet and Nordberg over almost any 2 famous pros longterm.. with the exceptions of (Gavin Smith, Tuan Le, Nam Le, Grinder).. I can guarantee you that the majority of internet players have played more hands then some of the top players.

You want to say VJ is a cheat, fineChi Chi is a drunk...okayTiger is stand offish..whatever.But lay off Daly, the man is the nuts
There is no dispute that in 1985, on the Asian Tour, Vijay changed a score on his card, to make a cut, and was banned from the tour for 2 years. Vijay is most assuredly a cheater, and that is something that can never be lived down. And Tiger is certainly an A-hole, just like Jack was. Opposites of Daly and Fuzzy- two great Americans!

People who call "Internet Players" donkeys - are you referring to 18 year old Scandinavian kids making HUNDERDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS A YEAR playing online, seasoned online vets like JohnnyBax or Gigabet, making HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS A YEAR playing online, the thousands of players who grind out 50K a year playing online poker, or the hundreds of thousands of recreational players who play for entertainment, and may win or lose............These days any serious poker player usually plays both online and live. Its just a bit more convenient to play online, but the term "Internet Player" is so vague a label to be able to make statement such as "Internet players are donks."

From watching High Stakes I feel like Eli is a bit of a donkey. Atleast at NL holdem, I cant speak for the other games. Seems like he takes forever sometimes to make what are otherwise easy decisions. Hes just a rich guy who plays high limits and is ok. I wouldnt fear him at my table at all. And no, i havent won a world poker tour event....see, im fending off flames before they get here with my fire retardent post.
ya but hes playing poker for fun....dudes rich as hell, that and hes use to playing limit im pretty sure

I will take a live game over internet anytime. As live is much easier and is also much more enjoyable. I see less ranting and flaming in a live game vs the internet game. The ability to read people is more the science than people think it is.

This post = 5 or 4 years ago. You don't really hear about this as much unless we are talking about low stakes internet players which are fish food.Edit: ahh just saw it was posted in 2006 makes more sense.

the internet is for suckers.once all the tubes fill up, its ova.on another note. People who say internet pro's are better than live pro's because they can see as many hands in 1 year as a live pro can in 5 years is ridiculous.if you're a winning player over 100,000 hands live or online its still skill. But IMO, to be a winning player live seeing less hands means either You have had good varience on your side, or you're just that much better than everyone else that you maximize your winning hands and minimize your losing.

In forensic's where I work it's science it's part of my job, so being able to pick up tells is a science for me. Gruven talked about a FBI agent who poker players hire to teach them how to read others. It's a science. He will have him on his radio show again coming up soon. I was taught various techniques to look at to see if someone is trying to hide something or if there pulse or colour changes, beyond what is taught in Poker VT.Joe Navarro is the FBI agent that does poker camp talks on tells, he is a Forensic specialist
