Heading To Vegas Next Week... Need Advice!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, im heading to vegas on monday or tuesday and will just be hanging out during the week and will rail a bit of the ME for the first 2 days. I will also be playing a few satellites at the RIO on wednesday & thursday to try to win a seat. What are the types of satellites offered for the ME? I've been told they have $50 Single table satellites where the top 2 get a ticket to a $225 Super Satllite where like 1/50 players get a seat. Is this about accurate? Also, where are some good places to play some $2/$5 NL. I've played at the bellagio before which was awesome, but haven't had the chance to play anywhere else. This is only my second time going to vegas so any tips, places to eat, poker places, shows etc, lay it on me!Also thinking of picking up a ticket for Penn & Teller wednesday night.Feedback & flames welcome!

If you like seafood the Rio Seafood Buffet is thebest. I liked playing poker the most at The Wynn. They have 1-3, 2-5, 5-10 nl etc. They were also spreading 2-5 at The Rio. I'm not sure what they are spreading now since I heard a lot of dealers have walked out because of poor pay.

ok, i don't know much about the ME seats, mainly because i go usually go in May for pool tourneys, but i can help you out with places to eat and maybe play.I love the buffet at the Bellagio...i'm not big into seafood so the Rio does nothing for me personally. Not to mention the dessert side of the Bellagio is fantastic and they have a wider range of entrees (seafood and meat) that will appeal to everyone. if you are looking for something a little lighter on the wallet, Main street station downtown has a very nice buffet.Late night the Stardust, which you should see because it will be gone soon, has a great after 11pm special...they also have a pretty good 1-2 nl game, but that could've been relative to the people who were in town at the time. Late night at Binions is also a good steak special. Mandalay Bay has a really nice coffee shop type restaurant, it's a little pricier but it's good.If you are going to drink....at least not while you're playing poker....i suggest slots of fun....cheap drinks..especially those yard long drinks...i found them to be more than half the price of Caesar's and it's right next to the Stardust if you're going that way.I usually try to mix a little tourist stuff into my trips..i hope this helps.

Just got back from the Rio and they had plenty of 2-5 NL games going during peak hours, less other times, but always something going on.The supers were scehduled and there was like 1 or 2 a day (they will have more when you are there), but they had what amounts to "sit 'n go" sats (10 players) all the time, buy-ins from 175 to 1050(or something like that). So, they did a fairly good job making the Rio a "one stop shopping" poker kind of atmosphere.Plenty of games, you get to hobnob with the "stars", plenty to watch, etc.good luck and have fun

If you want a cash game, stay at the RIO. Once the players in the tournaments go out, they start all the empty tables as cash game tables. The money is LOOSE !!! I was in Vegas for event #2, $1500 NL. After I got knocked out I stuck around and won my buy-in back at the $2/$5 NL tables.Be ready for some crazy card playing though :icon_eek:Here is a place to look for all the upcoming tournaments: http://www.lasvegasvegas.com/poker/pokercalendar.phpGood Luck to you out there!

ya ceasars is great, they spread 1/2 NL if you dont play 2-5.wynn has 1-3 NL no max buy in with billions of fish, soo good there love it.alladin also has a jopke room with a few regulars and hundreds of "wannabe pro's" who think their the shizz and play tight, and thats where playing 6,7 7,9 89 9,10 etc.. works great and always straddle!!good luck

If you want some easy money, make sure you play at the Rio in the side games. The people playing those are horrible in general. So many backwards wearing baseball cap college kids giving their money away its insane. On the other side you have the drunks who have been up for days, they're pretty easy as well. I had a couple of people actually telling and showing me what they had allowing me to lay down and save alot of money.Outside of that, just remember that unlike the Bellagio, the 2/5 games are not 200 max buy-ins, most will be $500 to uncapped.

i have a question for those who have been playing the side games as well:i'm not really much of a fan of NL cash games, myself, but have really been kicking my LO8 game into high gear. i've played this at the wynn in the past, and it's been really soft, but what casinos are offering the softest LO8 side games during the wsop?or if it's really that much of a difference, how much more money is there to be made at the NL cash games than the limit games? is that where all the fish are playing?

Of course the best players at the table often are from the same age bracket.

Let me guess, you're in that college age bracket. Actually, I only saw a few young people that actaully had any skill. Most of them were trying to pull off over creative plays / bluffs at pots and couldn't recognize a calling station if the guy said "hey, I'm a calling station." In total I spent about 3 months last year in Vegas and I can only remember 2-3 players under the age of 25 that were even decent / solid in low limit NL cash games. Those players were dealers who lived there and were paying their bills with the profits from LL games. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there are not good young players. I'm just saying that in Vegas, for every 25-30 people you play that are under 25, 1-2 of them may be good, the rest are good in their home games, but are horrible when they're not playing their friends who picked up the game last year.

My pokerroom of choice is the MGM. It is in my opinion the fishiest room on the strip. I make more money there than any where.
