It still looks really bad esp. where the levees broke. I think people that are down for the tounament will tell you that you can't imagine how bad it is until you come down. Where Harrahs is downtown, the damage isn't bad at all but in other parts of the city it is horrible.
i probably can't imagine, but i'm not too shocked just from what i saw on every cable tv network last year.i'm still hoping lori puts up that blog of her trip down there to volunteer.

I'm offended and you must hate life or hate having fun if you don't like New Orleans. You are still my favorite poster but I also despise you at the same time.
I havent liked it here either, I have however only been here 1 night and I havent been out much...so I'll give it time.I know the hurricane was bad and it was probably muuuch better before it..but where I'm staying it looks pretty damn dirty and not very safe at all. Im by bourbon and Canal st. about 5 blocks from Harra's. On a brighter note, the people Ive met have been really nice, and it seems like everyone that lives here has a bond because of the Hurricane, people talk about it a lot, more than one would imagine and it seems like everyone is really positive torwards rebuilding.Ok, so ...where are the good strip clubs at again?

You missed the best one and that Rick's Caberat which is also on Bourbon. This is my favorite but the recently changed management and the girls aren't the best. The upstairs VIP section is awesome if you can get up there. As for the ones you listed Hustler club used to be good I think they just reopened so I'm not sure how it is now. Barely Legal is pretty good. I've never been to Bewitched and Temptations is very dirty and you can probably get whatever you want if you feel like spending a few extra dollars. As for PrtySux sorry about your hotel situation but it is pretty safe downtown but also very dirty. You can blame tourists like yourself and our terrible politicians for that. If you do happen to make a nice cash move to the Loews which is right across the street from Harrahs or the Royal Sonesta (I spelled it wrong) which is on Bourbon with sweet balconys overlooking everything. Also make sure you go to Pat O's which is the best place to go in the Quarter. If you need to know about anything else just holla back.David

How are the satellites running? I am thinking about coming over monday afternoon and playing some of the $65 ST sats for the $500 event on Tuesday. Are they running them pretty steadily throughout the day? Also, what was the turnout and 1rst prize for events 1 & 2?

satellites are running almost all day and night. My trip report thus far:New Orleans smells bad. From the second I got off the plane until I was in my hotel room, the place just smells very bad. I got up this morning, went to the casino and bought in the the event at around 8:30am. Checked out what was going on, found my table and met up with PPSux and CobaltBlue at around 10:30. Both awesome guys.I get seated at my table and am in seat 9, direcly facing the air conditioning vent that feeds the entire poker room. Luckily I wore jeans and a long sleeve shirt but people at my table are shivering and I am quite cold. Our dealer misdeals twice in the first 4 hands. Wow. Fifth hand i pick up King Jack of hearts. As seat 4 is folding, he exposes King Jack. I think about it and decide to fold. 3 players to go the flop which comes Qh 10h x. One player makes a small bet and takes down the pot. I die a little inside.15 minutes later I pick up 8s 10s in the small blind with 25-50 blinds. Under the gun makes it 150 to go. I call. Flop comes 7 9 J. Hot damn. I check, he checks. Turn is a K. He bets 200. I feign thinking and call. He has been playing very tight and would never have raised from early position with Q10. River is a 3, I check hoping he'll take another stab at it and he checks and turns over pocket aces. "I just had a feeling they weren't good" W T F.Near the end of level 2 I pick up Ad 9d uner the gun with the small blind in the bathroom and make it 225 to go. Folds around to the short stacked big blind who pushes for 600 more. This is a critical hand that I'm beating myself up about. Something screamed "small pair" and I put him on 88 based on a previous hand where he had played 66 very aggressively pre flop (that caused him to be the short stack). Getting almost 2-1 I reluctantly go with my read and call about 2/5 of my remaining stack. He turns over 77. I put my money in getting 2-1 as a 46-54 dog. Despite flopping a wheel draw, I do not improve and double him up and am now the short stack at the table.Mathematically I made the right call as my read was right, but was it dumb to gamble there despite getting definitely the right price?Anyway, they move us to the other room pretty quick after that. With the blinds at 50-100 on a stack of 575 I push with Q10 from middle position and 2 people behind me each literally having one $25 chip left. The big stack calls and shows me AJ. I flop 789 and need a 6, J, or Q but get no love and I'm gone and disgusted.PartyPSux went out in round 2 when his bluff got picked off, but he was very tired and went back to get some sleep before he goes to the 20-40 game. I'm going to take some swag up to CobaltBlue (who finished 100 yesterday out of 545 and was in good chip position when I left) and play a ring game or try and satellite into the 1000 tomorrow.

I dont think theres anything wrong with calling As9s there I might not have called, but given your read you did the correct thing. The str8 hand, I think you would have been better off making a small c/r or betting out on the turn I guess it gives u a shot at taking the lead and valuebetting the river, if he folds you probably werent getting much out of him either way. These people love to call and I just realized that, I think Im going to be doing a lot of overbetting with big hands in the events to come. Anyway, I'll cya in a bit at the casino.

The A9 hand was fine. You were getting better than 2-1, you cant really fold anything in that spot. The thing with those live short stacked mtts is you have to gamble and win early or you will have no shot.

that sounds completely legal and like something my fiance would be totally ok with.

Good luck in the cash games Cowboy(and PPSux, Cobalt), you should ask the floorman if they'll provide you a massage lady to relieve stress during the tournaments. When I played one of these WSOP prelim events in AC I went out with AJ to 99 on a board of 99AA5 when I was getting a massage, so don't get too down. Just gotta hope the beats are on your side today. I think you'll find many of your opponents suck, and you can bluff the tight ones when they don't hit a flop. Use table talk to find out what players are cool and which ones don't say a word. Try some satellites to get into that 1K event, you'll probably take one down. Remember, no matter how smelly or cold it is, it's still a casino and you can get drunk and pretend to be a maniac while razzing the other players at the table, that always brings me some enjoyment :club:

This is the worst attempt at entertainment I have ever seen. JC (partypsux) was dead on when he said that new orleans seems like they don't want tourism for some reason. Whatever that reason is, I don't know, but i cannot wait to leave. My hotel is billing me manditorily for wireless internet and phone. Whatever, it's not that expensive, but it didn't even work the first day, and they don't care at all.I went back to play 1-2NL and pass out some FCP gear earlier this afternoon. I sat down at my table and the buy in was $200 or half of what the big stack had. Instantly I realized that this would be a problem as the big stack had over 600 and average was close to 450. Whatever I figure, it's just 1-2, I can play super tight for a while until I get a feel for the table. It took me 5 minutes to find out that this was not a normal table. The "standard" opening raise was $20-30. Let that sink in. Got it? Ok. I hope you just mumbled "what the" and then inserted a funny word. I tried to set a precedent for a $10 opening raise, but when I did, I got 6-7 callers EVERY TIME. It cost me about $150 to realize what the hell was going on. It didn't help that my hands were horrible. My best hand in 4-5 hours was QQ once. I split the pot with a guy who called $150 by the turn with a Q10 when we both hit a straight on the river. Before the river, he only had a pair of 10s. I wanted to fly across the table and punch him in the face. The fine gentleman 2 to my left got quads twice and aces full 4 or 5 times while I was at the table. The guy to my right was extremely old and had touretts or something. He would throw his cards angrily around when he didn't like his hand and knock his own chips over.I must say that it was very nice of Harrah's to buy all of their cocktail waitresses breast implants. I don't understand why bought them *** implants though, as this makes the tables that are already too close very uncomfortable as drink girls and other players slam into the back of your chair every few minutes. It's also great that the poker room is "smoke free". This does not stop people from taking 2 steps away from their table and smoking on the inside of the rail, or people leaning over the rail while smoking and blowing smoke DIRECTLY INTO the room, but it's the thought that counts I guess. Finally, a note to DN: You cannot wear headphones of any sort in the casino or tournament area. I thought this was a tournament specific rule to help avoid the "what? I didn't hear" situations that can slow down tournaments, but this is casino wide, including the cash games. The poker room and tournament room are EXTREMELY LOUD. It is not a pleasant atmosphere. While I'm pissed, the dealers are terrible. Misdeals every now and again, fine, whatever, crap happens. However, pots were pushed to the wrong person, misdeals were expected every 20 minutes at most, and the dealers simply were not paying attention in the tournament or cash games.Good luck tomorrow to JC in the $1k event! He is playing well despite a pretty traumatic trip so far. I watched him come very close to the bubble in an 80 person super satellite to the main event. Unforunately, the event went from controlled to crapshoot extremely fast when it got down to two tables and there were multiple all ins on almost every hand. He got his money in the best he could but his hands didn't hold up.

Yes, the FCP gear has been far and away the best part of the trip. It has started plenty of conversations and the poker room manager even commented on how cool it looks. Thank you guys again for that. CobaltBlue was wearing his while whooping up on the 20-40 limit game, EvilGN's wife will be wearing it to the ladies event, and JC will have some on tomorrow at the $1k.

Thats pretty cool about the FCP sending the gear. If FCPers meet up for some events at the WSOP, we can be a whole FCP gear wearing crew. Don't let this experience turn you off from live tournaments and casino play. Most casinos in AC, Conn., Cali, and Vegas are cool. Oh and Cowboy, get ready for the gilbertology army, its coming soon and can't be stopped.
